  , , Player News

Memphis senior linebacker Tim Hart won't return to the Tigers after opting out of this season. Hart announced Sunday that he will enter the transfer portal. He appeared in one game this season, the Tigers' season opener against Arkansas State. "I am thankful and I will never forget my time at the University of Memphis. I want to give a special thanks to the people that have been by my side for these past years through everything," Hart said on Twitter. Although Hart is a redshirt senior, he has an another year of eligibility after the NCAA granted all fall athletes an extra year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hart, a Memphis native who graduated from MUS, left the team in September during the Tigers' COVID-19 outbreak. He's one of 13 Memphis players this season that have transferred, opted out or taken a personal leave of absence. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

Memphis senior linebacker Tim Hart announced Monday that he'll be the third Tigers player to opt out of this season. He's also the second since the team paused football activities because of a COVID-19 outbreak within the program. Hart, a Memphis native, played in the Tigers' season opening win over Arkansas State. He's played in 42 games and started 13, with 10 coming as a freshman in 2017. "Anybody that know me knows that my love and dedication to Memphis football runs far deeper than just on the field. It has been a dream of mine to play for my hometown and for the past 5 years I have been honored to represent this great city and school," Hart said in a statement on Twitter. "With that being said, after much thought I have made the difficult decision to opt out of this season." Hart, whose father, Tim Sr., also played at Memphis, added that he plans to return to football next season. The NCAA granted all fall sports athletes an extra year of eligibility in August, so Hart, who was in his fifth year, will be eligible for a sixth season. - Memphis Commercial Appeal
