The Greensboro, North Carolina, native produced 3,565 yards of total offense, completing 229-of-329 passes (69.6 percent) for 3,135 yards with 27 touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing 104 times for 430 yards and five scores on the ground. He claimed five wins over opponents ranked in the AP Top 25 at the time of meeting, combining for 1,817 yards of total offense and 16 touchdowns in those games. Hooker touts two victories over current top-11 opponents as the Vols took down LSU, 40-17, in Baton Rouge and defeated Alabama at home, 52-49, in back-to-back weeks. The 24-year-old leads the nation with 9.53 yards per pass attempt while also ranking atop the Southeastern Conference in completion percentage, passing efficiency and total offense (324.1 yards per game). Hooker's two interceptions are the fewest of the 24 FBS QBs who have thrown 25 or more touchdowns this season, and his 27:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio leads the Power Five. - Tennessee Football

Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia, and Clemson were the top four teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season released Tuesday night, four days before the Volunteers and Bulldogs square off on the field. Michigan was fifth, followed by Alabama and unbeaten TCU. Tennessee is No. 1 in the CFP rankings for the first time, starting ahead of a group of teams that have become regulars at the top of the selection committee's top 25. The Volunteers have already beaten the Crimson Tide and LSU, which was ranked 10th.

The committee began its weekly in-person meetings at hotel in Grapevine, Texas, on Monday and revealed the first of six weekly rankings. The final rankings that set the CFP field of four are set for Dec. 4. The 13-person panel is led by a first-time chairman Boo Corrigan, the athletic director of North Carolina State. Only one team that has been No. 1 in the committee's initial rankings has not made the playoff, but only about half the teams in first top four managed to finish there. - AP College Football

Neither the Bulldogs nor the Volunteers have ever played in a 1-2 game in the regular season. Georgia remained No. 1 for the fourth straight week, receiving 30 first-place votes and 1,528 points.

The Volunteers moved up a spot, receiving 18 first-place votes and 1,500 points to match Ohio State. The Buckeyes received 15 first-place votes.   10/15/22 - QB Hendon HookerrSr/2023, Tennessee, 6-3, 217 (DS#5 QB) + More +

After 15 years of being a rival to Alabama in name only, Tennessee snapped a humbling losing streak, stamped itself a championship contender and celebrated in spectacular fashion. Chase McGrath made a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give No. 6 Tennessee a 52-49 victory over No. 3 Alabama on Saturday. As soon as the kick knuckle-balled through the uprights, some of the more than 100,000 fans stormed the field to join the party as the Volunteers (6-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) ended a 15-game losing streak to the Crimson Tide (6-1, 3-1). Fireworks went off over Neyland Stadium and it glowed orange as the song "Dixieland Delight" by the band Alabama - a Crimson Tide favorite - blared over the stadium speakers. And it didn't take long for the goal posts to go down. "This is college football at its absolute best," Vols coach Josh Heupel said. Hendon Hooker drove the Vols 45 yards in 18 seconds to set up the winner. Jalin Hyatt caught six passes for 207 yards and a Tennessee-record five touchdowns.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, a game-time decision because of a sprained right shoulder two weeks ago, completed 35 passes for 455 yards and two TDs. Hyatt's fifth TD catch tied it at 49 with 3:26 left in the fourth. Young drove the Tide into the Tennessee territory in the final minute, but Alabama stalled at the 33 with three straight incomplete passes. Will Reichard's 50-yard field goal attempt for the lead was wide way right. With only 21 seconds left, overtime seemed likely, but Hooker wasn't done and did the Heisman Trophy winner one better. Hooker completed two passes for 45 yards, the second a 27-yard strike to Bru McCoy that gave Tennessee a chance for a makeable field goal - and McGrath came through to give the Volunteers its biggest victory in years. Tennessee had not beaten a top-10 teams since 2006 against Georgia. That was also the last time the Vols beat Alabama. - Tennessee/AP College Football

Hendon Hooker passed for two touchdowns, Jabari Small ran for 127 yards and two scores, and No. 8 Tennessee punished No. 25 LSU for its mistakes and risk-taking in a resounding 40-13 victory over the Tigers on Saturday. A morning kickoff lured LSU fans to Tigers Stadium considerably earlier than usual - and many were gone by the end of the third quarter, when Tennessee led 37-7. The Volunteers (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) matched their best start to a season since 2016 with balance on offense, sound defense that corralled dual-threat LSU QB Jayden Daniels, and opportunistic special teams play. Hooker passed for 239 yards, with scoring passes of 45 and 14 yards to Jalin Hyatt. The fleet-footed QB also accounted for 56 of Tennessee's 264 yards on the ground. Bru McCoy caught seven passes for 140 yards, drawing howls of "Bruuuuuuu!" from a sizeable contingent of fans in Volunteer orange. Those fans' repeated singing of "Good ol' Rocky Top" echoed throughout LSU's Death Valley by game's end.

Tennessee sacked Daniels five times with defensive lineman Byron Young accounting for half of that total. LSU's combination of early special teams failures and costly fourth-down risks helped Tennessee build an early double-digit lead. Jack Bech had the opening kickoff bounce off his chest and straight to Tennessee's Will Brooks at the Tigers' 27-yard line. Five plays later, Small ran for a 1-yard score. Minutes later, the Vols' offense was back on the LSU 26 after Dee Williams' 58-yard punt return. LSU (4-2, 2-1) held Tennessee to Chase McGrath's 35-yard field goal, but missed a chance to trim its deficit when coach Brian Kelly kept the offense on the field on fourth and 4 from the UT 14. A quick pass to Kayshon Boutte near the right sideline came up inches short. Leading 13-0, Tennessee thwarted LSU on fourth and 1 near midfield, stopping Josh Williams' run. On the next play, Hooker's deep throw down the right sideline hit Hyatt in stride to make it 20-0. Hooker's 32-yard pass to McCoy to set up a short McGrath kick that made it 23-7 at the half. - Tennessee/AP College Football

The Volunteers return promise for head coach Josh Heupel's second season, picked by many to finish second in the division. Heupel's high-flying offense helped Tennessee improve last season, finishing with a 7-6 record. Heupel has a returning quarterback this year in Hendon Hooker, who is once again expected to electrify the Volunteer attack. "Has taken great strides in offseason," Heupel said. "A young man that had an opportunity to declare for the draft, came back to our program I believe because of the culture we have, the improvements he knew he could make in coming back and helping his career." - Columbia Daily Tribune

Tennessee's Hendon Hooker, one of the SEC's best quarterbacks, is getting paid for his name, image and likeness. Few people see a problem with that. Numerous media reports have speculated that Vols commitment Nico Iamaleava, a five-star quarterback, also has a lucrative NIL deal more than year before playing for the Vols. He lives in California, where high school players can be paid for their NIL. The amount of either contract has not been confirmed, as most athletes and collectives are silent about their NIL terms. Is it fair for a 17-year-old high school senior to be paid like a 24-year-old sixth-year college senior? At SEC Media Days on Thursday, Hooker did not name Iamaleava nor was he asked about a specific recruit. But he had a definitive opinion on the topic.

"To each his own. It's a blessing," Hooker said. "If I was coming out (of high school), I would want to get paid too. There are some guys that are special out there that have earned that. "At the end of the day, they put in the same work that we put in. So why shouldn't they be rewarded as well?" But Hooker was quick to note that players must still earn playing time, regardless of their NIL deals. "But when you get there (to college), you've still got to show up," Hooker said. "I would for sure say, 'Take advantage of (NIL), young guys, and continue to work hard." - Knoxville News Sentinel

2022 PRESEASON DAVEY O'BRIEN NATIONAL QUARTERBACK AWARD WATCH LIST: Hendon Hooker, Tennessee, Sr., 6-4, 218, Greensboro, N.C.,...A 2021 Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist, Hooker shattered single-season program records for completion percentage (68.0) and passer efficiency rating (181.4) last fall in his debut season on Rocky Top.   The Vols averaged 39.3 points last season to rank seventh nationally. They accomplished that with a new coaching staff, new offensive system, new quarterback and a new lead running back. Not only does UT return most of the contributors to that offense, it has added Southern Cal transfer wide receiver Bru McCoy, a former five-star recruit. McCoy and Jalin Hyatt, who impressed coaches in the spring, could give the Vols one of the top frontline receiving corps in the conference.

Combine those receivers with Hendon Hooker and it's not farfetched to think the Vols could lead the nation in scoring. UT's schedule could help. Regardless of their talent level, SEC opponents might have a better read on Tennessee's up-tempo offense. But that's not saying much. Secondaries, in particular, struggled terribly to keep up with UT receivers last season. And whatever advantage opponents gain from having studied more video could be offset by the Vols' familiarity with Heupel's system. That familiarity could enable Tennessee to average better than 40 points. - Knoxville News Sentinel

Hooker didn't earn the starting job last spring or last summer, but he sure did flourish once he took the reins. Capitalizing on a Joe Milton injury against Pittsburgh in the second game of the season, the 6-foot-4, 218-pounder wound up completing 206 of 303 passes for 2,945 yards with 31 touchdowns and only three interceptions, setting single-season school records for passer efficiency (181.4) and accuracy (68.0%) in the process.

He became the first Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist for the Vols since Erik Ainge in 2006 and capped his season with 437 total yards and five aerial touchdowns in the bowl game. Hooker elected to use a sixth year of eligibility and is a huge reason for the notable optimism in Heupel's second season. - Chattanooga Times Free Press

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker will have an encore. After a standout debut season, Hooker will use his final year of eligibility by returning to the Vols as a super senior in 2022. "Looking forward to many more. Let's run it back," Hooker posted on Twitter on Sunday. Even with coach Josh Heupel signing his first recruiting class Wednesday, Hooker's announcement represents the biggest news for UT's 2022 roster. The Virginia Tech graduate transfer climbed the UT record book in his first season, and he ranks third nationally in passer rating.

Hooker's return means the Vols may not miss a beat in 2022 from their frenetic pace in Heupel's first season, when they ranked ninth in scoring offense (38.8 ppg) and led FBS in plays per minute. And it also stabilizes UT's quarterback situation. Four-star prospect Tayven Jackson plans to sign with UT on Wednesday and enroll in January. He can now learn behind Hooker for one season rather than compete for the starting job with backup Joe Milton or potential transfers. - Knoxville News

Jabari Small rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns as the Volunteers (7-5, 4-4) grabbed bragging rights over their intrastate rival Commodores (2-10, 0-8). He was replaced by Joe Milton.

The Vols and their high-octane offense had their six scoring drives total 11 minutes, 26 seconds time of possession. Commodores quarterback Mike Wright collected 198 passing yards and a TD. Rocko Griffin rushed for 104 yards and a score. Vanderbilt waited until the last play of the first half for its only highlight. Down 24-0, Wright heaved a desperation pass 56 yards and, with three Vols around him, Will Sheppard hauled it in in the end zone.   All season, Tennessee coach Josh Heupel has stressed maintaining a high competitive level, no matter the opponent. Saturday night, thanks to a 60-14 win over South Alabama, Heupel's players proved they got the message. "They answered my question," Heupel said. "Who are we going to be? We were assignment sound. We took care of business." Hendon Hooker threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Tennessee. The nonconference win gives the Volunteers (6-5) bowl eligibility in Heupel's first season. The Jaguars (5-6) have one more try to reach that level under first-year coach Kane Wommack. "(Bowl eligibility) is important for sure," Heupel said. "Nobody focused on that part of it. We just wanted to continue to grow and compete. Now we have an opportunity to grow and compete in December." Hooker connected on 17 of 20 passes, with touchdowns going to Cedric Tillman (27 yards) and Princeton Fant (24).

Jabari Small rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs. Jalen Wright and Len'Neth Whitehead also scored one on the ground. "(We were) hitting on every angle," Hooker said. "We're trying to tire you out tonight." "(Hooker) keeps being aggressive," Heupel said. "He's a competitor." Besides an offense that collected 561 yards, the Vols defense stifled the Jaguars with 1 of 16 in third-down conversions and had 13 tackles for loss. "We did a good job of maxing things out (on defense)," Heupel said. "We had pressure on their quarterback." - Tennessee/AP College Football

NOV 8 SEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee,...Hooker was spectacular in leading Tennessee to a 45-42 high-scoring win at No. 18 Kentucky as he accounted for four touchdowns and 357 yards of total offense...He averaged an incredible 11.52 yards per play. It was the Vols' first ranked win on the road vs. a top 20 opponent since 2006, while the 45 points were Tennessee's most vs. a ranked opponent on the road since Oct. 7, 2006 (51 at No. 10 Georgia)...Hooker finished an efficient 15-of-20 for a career-best 316 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. He also added 41 yards on the ground.   Even for a team that's embraced a fast pace, Tennessee's efficiency against No. 18 Kentucky was something to behold. Especially the little time Hendon Hooker needed to move the Volunteers up and down the field. Hooker threw a career-high four touchdown passes, including a 6-yard insurance score to Cedric Tillman early in the fourth quarter, and Tennessee held off the Wildcats 45-42 on Saturday night to halt a two-game skid. The Volunteers (5-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) emerged from a bye to strike quickly in a back-and-forth game between border rivals that totaled 1,073 yards combined. They needed just four plays and 37 seconds to score their first two TDs, drove 35 yards in 16 seconds for a go-ahead field goal before halftime, and used only 37 seconds on the way to another go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter.

The Vols were outgained 612-461 and held the ball for just 13:52, but made the most of it before a sellout crowd in hostile territory. Many spectators had barely settled into seats when Hooker tossed his first TD pass to Javonta Payton on the game's first snap. "We scored extremely quickly on some big plays and even when we didn't, we move the ball down into plus-red zone territory and end up fumbling," Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said. "It's just really unique how the game really unfolded." Hooker's final TD to Tillman with 11:40 remaining proved to be the biggest as Kentucky (6-3, 4-3) got within a field goal on Will Levis' 24-yard touchdown toss to Izayah Cummings. The Wildcats got one last chance after Chase McGrath's missed field goal but couldn't take advantage, turning the ball over on downs with 29 seconds left. It was Tennessee's first win over a ranked opponent since 2018, also against Kentucky. - Tennessee/AP College Football

Hendon Hooker threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns to lead Tennessee to a 45-20 Southeastern Conference victory over South Carolina Saturday. The Volunteers (4-2, 2-1) led 35-0 in the second quarter before the Gamecocks (3-3, 0-3) staged a recovery. Vols' running back Tiyon Evans rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown before leaving midway through the third quarter with an injury.

South Carolina's Kevin Harris scored from a yard out to start the fourth quarter. A missed two-point conversion made the score 38-20. Tennessee's offense generated just 25 offensive yards in the third quarter. Len'Neth Whitehead, replacing the injured Evans at running back, scored Tennessee's last TD from two yards. Trailing by 31 midway through the third quarter, South Carolina had fourth-and-9 on the Tennessee 44. Punter Kai Kroeger hit wide-open Payton Mangrum with what turned out to be a scoring pass and a 38-14 difference. A 28-0 first-quarter lead blossomed to 38-7 by halftime.   Hendon Hooker has played well enough to finally earn the starting quarterback job at Tennessee. Volunteers coach Josh Heupel had left open the issue of who his starter is the past five weeks after initially naming Joe Milton, a redshirt junior transfer from Michigan. But an injury to Milton opened the job up to Hooker, a redshirt senior transfer from Virginia Tech. Hooker's performance in a rout of Missouri last weekend was enough for Heupel to finally be named the starter Monday before the Vols host South Carolina on Saturday. Hooker's ball security helped sway his head coach. He has thrown eight TD passes with no interceptions since taking over as the starter Sept. 18. "As much as anything, it's great comfort and understanding what we're doing, the tempo," Heupel said. "He's really in control of what's going on at the line of scrimmage. He's been really decisive with the football. That comes from him having his eyes in the right place." In the 62-24 rout of Missouri, Hooker completed 15 of 19 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran 15 times for 80 yards and a TD as the Tennessee offense looked the closest yet to the fast-paced attack Heupel wants. Tennessee has averaged 44 points and 507.7 yards a game with Hooker starting. - AP College Football

Hendon Hooker threw three touchdown passes and scored one of his own to lead Tennessee to a 56-0 victory over Tennessee Tech Saturday. Hooker, who finished last week's loss to Pittsburgh after Joe Milton went down with an injury, rolled up 199 yards while completing 17 of 25 passes for the Volunteers (2-1). The only negative was a lost fumble in the second quarter. Tennessee Tech (0-3) went through three quarterbacks. The Golden Eagles generated just 179 yards of offense.

With Tennessee leading 49-0 late in the third quarter, Harrison Bailey saw his first action of the season under center. Bailey engineered a fourth-quarter drive, kept it alive with an 8-yard first-down run, then finished off the final two yards for a 56-0 score. The Vols went up 35-0 when Hooker found the end zone from a yard out six minutes into the third quarter. - Tennessee/AP College Football

Hendon Hooker was perfect from the air and ran for three scores to lead Virginia Tech to a 42-35 victory over Louisville Saturday. The junior quarterback went 10-of-10 for 183 yards passing to supplement a rushing attack that garnered 283 yards for the Hokies (4-2, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference). He contributed 68 of those yards on the ground. About three hours before kickoff, Louisville (2-5, 1-5) announced nine players would be unavailable for undisclosed reasons. That included leading solo tackler Monty Montgomery, starting free safety Isaiah Hayes and three of the Cardinals top four defensive ends - Yaya Diaby, Tabarius Peterson and Dayna Kinnaird.

The Hokies, who entered Saturday with the nation's third-best rushing offense, came out rolling. They scored three touchdowns on their first four drives, all on Hooker runs, to build a 21-0 lead with 9:28 left in the first half. The Cardinals rallied, and a Javian Hawkins 90-yard scoring run to end the half cut the Hokies lead to just 21-14. The run by Hawkins, who finished with 129 yards on 17 carries, was the third-longest run in Louisville history and the longest since 1971. Virginia Tech would expand the lead on the opening drive of the second half with a Tre Turner 1-yard run capping a 63-yard, seven-play drive. The defense responded by getting a fourth down stop when Chamarri Conner picked off a Malik Cunningham pass at the Hokies 1. The Hokies' Khalil Herbert ran 21 times for 147 yards. His 24-yard TD run with 3:23 left made it 42-28. - Virginia Tech/AP College Football

Hendon Hooker ran for a career-high 164 yards and three touchdowns and threw for a score in Virginia Tech's victory over Boston College. Khalil Herbert added 143 yards rushing for the Hokies (3-1, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). They ran for 350 yards in bouncing back from a road loss to North Carolina. Virginia Tech scored off of four of BC's five turnovers to pull away. The Eagles (3-2, 2-2) turned it over three times in the first half alone, with the most damaging coming when quarterback Phil Jurkovec overthrew an open Jaelen Gill deep in Virginia Tech territory. Devin Taylor intercepted the pass for the Hokies, and Hooker's 29-yard touchdown pass to Herbert made it 17-7.   Virginia Tech quarterback Hendon Hooker could return to the lineup as early as this week. Hooker missed the season-opener after what coach Justin Fuente described as a "little scare" in relation to some medical testing that was done in recent weeks. Hooker was one of the 23 players who were unavailable to play in the opener. "There was a little bit of cause for alarm for further testing," Fuente said. "He hasn't practiced in a little while, but all that came back really well." Fuente didn't offer any new details about what kept Hooker sidelined on Monday during his weekly press conference and wouldn't say how many weeks of practice Hooker missed. The quarterback did speak to the media on Sept. 9.

According to the ACC Network sideline reporter Katie George, Hooker was in quarantine until Friday, but it wasn't clear if he had tested positive for COVID-19. Student-athlete that test positive for the coronavirus are required to undergo EKG and other tests to assess symptoms of Myocarditis and must receive cardiac clearance from Tech chief medical officer Dr. Mark Rogers. "We haven't had him for a while, so he's had a really good fall camp I've been really pleased with," Fuente said on Monday when asked if Hooker was ready to play against Duke. "So I feel the same that I always have." - Roanoke Times

Virginia Tech quarterback Hendon Hooker is back on campus looking to pick up where he left off. The Hokies started voluntary workouts on June 16, but Hooker was one of the players that left campus back in March and wasn't brought back until last week. Before the COVID-19 pandemic turned the sports world upside down, Hooker went into the offseason looking to build on his successful stint as starter. He helped turn Tech's 2019 season around going 6-2 under center with 1,900-plus total yards and 18 touchdowns. Hooker focused his early efforts on further cementing himself as a locker room leader by frequently popping into the weight room to support his teammates before and after his own workout. Tech's strength and conditioning staff split the team up into three groups for the winter offseason conditioning program.

On one particular 'big squat Friday' in February, Hooker worked out in the early morning and was back in the weight room a couple hours later for the afternoon weight-lifting session to cheer on the likes of Maxx Philpott, Austin Cannon, Keshon Artis and Brock Hoffman lift upwards of 600 pounds. When the team parted ways a few weeks later, Hooker returned home to Greensboro where his focus shifted from building camaraderie to staying physically prepared while the team was apart. "He was always comparing what he would be doing back on campus (in a normal year)," Hendon's father Alan said in a phone interview with The Roanoke Times. "He was training hard, he was pushing himself because he was worried he wasn't doing enough. If he was at school he would have coaches constantly pushing him, so he always went a little harder." - Roanoke Times

Hendon Hooker threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 25 Virginia Tech to a 28-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday. Hooker threw touchdown passes to Tre Turner and Damon Hazelton, and Virginia Tech's defense scored on a fumble return, as the Hokies (8-3, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) notched their sixth win in their past seven games. "I can't say enough good things about our guys," Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente said. "I felt that way about them early in the year, too, though. I really did. I'm enjoying every moment with them. I think they're a special group of young men. They've been through special circumstances and stuck together."

The Virginia Tech win sets up a showdown next weekend with rival Virginia, with the victor claiming the ACC's Coastal Division and an ACC championship game berth on Dec. 7. Pittsburgh (7-4, 4-3) finished with a season-low 177 yards. Kenny Pickett completed 10 of 26 for 103 yards to lead the Panthers. "Disappointing performance, obviously, today," Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi said. "A lot of things I saw -- too many penalties, 0 for 3 on fourth downs ... We don't make any plays. Just a disappointing performance. "I give Virginia Tech a lot of props for what they did out there today. Bud Foster's (Virginia Tech defensive coordinator) defense came to play, I can guarantee you that...It's hard to win when you can't get in the end zone. We had some field position at times, but just didn't do anything with it." - Virginia Tech/AP College Football

Deshawn McClease scored touchdowns on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter. His 6-yard touchdown run with 7:02 remaining in the quarter gave the Hokies a 20-17 lead. He had 59 of the Hokies' 228 yards rushing. Hooker completed 15 of 23 for 242 yards and rushed for 69 yards. Jamie Newman completed 16 of 35 passes for 238 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Wake Forest (7-2, 3-2).   Hendon Hooker threw three touchdown passes and Virginia Tech fought back feisty Rhode Island for a 34-17 victory Saturday. Hooker hit Damon Hazleton from nine and 37 yards in the first half and Dalton Keene from three yards after the Rams pulled to within 17-14 in the third quarter. The Hooker-to-Hazleton connection almost teamed up for a third first-half score, but Hazleton dropped what looked like a sure 71-yard scoring pass before halftime. His scoring toss to Keene was his fourth to the tight end in the past two games.

Virginia Tech (4-2) won its second in a row, but without showing the firepower that marked a 42-35 victory at Miami a week ago in Hooker's first start. The Hokies were stopped on three consecutive runs after having a first down at the Rams' 5 yard-line on their opening possession, having to settle for a field goal, and need a 75-yard scoring drive early in the final quarter to get some insurance points. - Virginia Tech/AP College Football

Hendon Hooker should have an easier time in his second start at quarterback for Virginia Tech. Hooker threw three touchdown passes without a turnover as the Hokies blew a 28-point lead before regrouping to beat Miami last week. Now comes a visit from Rhode Island of the FCS for a game that should help Hooker grow even more comfortable in the job. - AP College Football
