N'Kosi Perry threw for a touchdown on the opening drive and ran for another with 2:31 remaining, and Miami knocked off No. 20 Virginia 17-9 on Friday night. Deejay Dallas caught the touchdown pass for Miami (3-3, 1-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), plus rush ed for 63 yards on 13 carries. Pat Bethel blocked a field goal for Miami and K.J. Osborn caught four passes for 60 yards. Perry finished 16 of 27 for 182 yards. The win kept the Hurricanes from falling to 0-3 in conference play — any conference — for what would have been the first time in school history.Bryce Perkins connected on his first nine passes and finished 24 for 41 for 244 yards for Virginia (4-2, 2-1). The Cavaliers entered ranked, yet were still 2 1/2 point underdogs at kickoff. Br ian Delaney made three field goals for the Cavaliers, who were looking for their first 3-0 start since 2007. They're now tied with North Carolina for first place in the Coastal Division, and could be joined there by Duke if the Blue Devils beat Georgia T ech on Saturday. Miami went 78 yards in 11 plays on the game's first possession, with Dallas taking a short pass from Perry and rumbling the rest of the way for a 17-yard score. Keep an eye on Miami RB Deejay Dallas this week against struggling Virginia Tech. Dallas is a candidate for a strong bounce-back game after managing just 34 yards rushing two weeks ago against Central Michigan after finishing with at least 95 yards rushi ng in each of the Hurricanes' first three games. The Hokies' defense has been uncharacteristically leaky, ranking 13th in the ACC against the run after allowing Duke to rush for 234 yards last week. - AP College Football

University of Miami running back DeeJay Dallas turned heads early last season when he insisted more than once that the Hurricanes were "built to crush dreams." That, of course was said before the Canes, who finished 7-6 in 2018, had plenty of their own d reams crushed. Dallas still went on to finish second on the team in rushing (617 yards and six touchdowns for a 5.7-yards-per-carry average) behind current NFL tailback Travis Homer - and added kick return and punt return duties to lead the team with 1,2 60 all-purpose yards.Now, a year older and heading into his junior season, Dallas is back to dreaming - about his Hurricanes and about his newborn son, DeeJay. "It's a blessing," said Dallas, now back to his freshman year weight of 213, and down t o 9.7-percent body fat from last year's 17. "In the back of your mind, you've got somebody depending on you.
