Oklahoma running back Kennedy Brooks will reportedly sit out the 2020 season, according to The Athletic. Brooks, nor OU, has yet to publicly comment on the report; although, he's no longer listed on the Sooners' online roster. OU receiver Charleston Rambo was asked about Brooks' potential departure during a Zoom media session on Friday. There doesn't appear to be any animosity between Brooks and his teammates. "He has his reasons but we just have to go with the flow and go with what we have you know? It's between him and God," Rambo said. "That's his decision and we're with him on everything, and it's no different than what he was when he played with us. Opting out does not make him no different than what he's been doing. That's still our brother, regardless." Brooks rushed for 1,056 yards in 2018 and 1,011 yards in 2019. He has also recorded 18 career touchdowns and averaged 7.5 yards per carry. - Norman Transcript

Oklahoma football players will return to campus for offseason workouts July 1, using facilities sanitized by fogging and spraying applications, wearing workout clothes disinfected with special detergents, and with the availability of a quarantine area in case they test positive for the coronavirus. Those are some of the protocols OU announced Tuesday in a detailed outline that accompanies reopening of its athletic facilities. Football players will return first, in a phased approach that will allow other athletes back at a later date. Before athletes join workouts initially, they will be tested for COVID-19 test during an assessment. Daily screenings prior to workouts will take place after that. OU head athletic trainer Scott Anderson said in a release that the school has been preparing for this moment "in some form" since OU's facility closed March 13. "Our priority is precaution while making preparations," Anderson said, "in what are very fluid circumstances." - Norman Transcript

Oklahoma's run game is critical to its Air Raid offense, however incongruent that might sound. Lincoln Riley has made it a priority since he arrived in Norman. Running backs are among football's most injured positions, and the Sooners haven't been exempt from that. Rodney Anderson, Trey Sermon, T.J. Pledger and Kennedy Brooks - practically every meaningful scholarship back the past three seasons - has missed time. This fall, OU must work around the potential absence of Rhamondre Stevenson, a productive junior-college transfer who was suspended for the Peach Bowl and could miss more time in 2020.

OU's running backs totaled 2,506 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2018. They ran for 435 fewer yards and 13 fewer touchdowns in 2019, when the run game focused more on Jalen Hurts at quarterback. Hurts ran for a team-high 1,487 yards and 20 touchdowns. He is a rare breed in terms of what he can handle physically, so don't expect that kind of offensive focus this season. With redshirt freshman Spencer Rattler likely to take over at quarterback, the Sooners won't have the option, and they can afford to lean on running backs again. - Norman Transcript

Oklahoma hired DeMarco Murray as its running backs coach Monday, bringing back the school's career leader in all-purpose yards, career touchdowns and kickoff return average. Murray starred at Oklahoma from the 2007 through 2010 seasons. The Sooners won three Big 12 championships during that run. Murray helped the Sooners reach the BCS national championship game after the 2008 season. Murray had a seven-year NFL career that included three Pro Bowl selections. He rushed for 7,174 yards and 49 touchdowns and racked up 2,165 receiving yards and six more scores as a pro. Murray was the running backs coach at Arizona last season. He replaces Jay Boulware, who left for a coaching job at Texas, his alma mater. - AP College Football

Kennedy Brooks rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown to help No. 7 Oklahoma beat No. 21 Oklahoma State 34-16 on Saturday night. Jalen Hurts passed for 163 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 63 yards and a score and caught a touchdown pass for the Sooners (11-1, 8-1 Big 12, No. 7 CFP) in their fifth straight victory in the series. Oklahoma has won 21 consecutive November games dating to 2014. The Sooners will play Baylor in the Big 12 championship game next Saturday. Oklahoma State's Chuba Hubbard, the nation's leading rusher, ran for 104 yards and a touchdown for his 10th consecutive game with at least 100 yards rushing. The Cowboys (8-4, 5-4, No. 21 CFP) had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Oklahoma held Oklahoma State to 335 yards. Parnell Motley led the way for the Sooners with an interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Oklahoma State's Matt Ammendola made a 25-yard field goal at the end of the first half to cut Oklahoma's lead to 20-13. Oklahoma went ahead 27-16 on a 93-yard drive that Brooks capped with a 3-yard touchdown run. With Oklahoma still up 27-16, Oklahoma State took a chance by going for it on fourth-and-three at the Oklahoma 27, but Dru Brown's pass fell incomplete. Oklahoma stopped the Cowboys again on fourth down in the fourth quarter. - AP College Football

Oklahoma and football coach Lincoln Riley both offered statements Saturday after a student made abuse allegations public against running back Kennedy Brooks the night before. Mallory Jech on Friday identified herself as an alleged victim of mental and physical abuse by Brooks, who was cleared by OU's Title IX office in an investigation nearly one month ago and has been since reinstated. He participated in Saturday's first preseason practice. Twenty minutes before the conclusion of that workout, OU released this statement:

"OU has been made aware of social media posts in reference to a recent Title IX investigation. Title IX reports and investigations are confidential in order to protect the privacy of both the individual reporter and the respondent involved in the investigation. University policy is to conduct investigations involving student athletes independent of OU Athletics. At no time does the Office of Institutional Equity engage the Athletics Department in the evaluation of evidence during or following an investigation. - Norman Transcript

Oklahoma running back Kennedy Brooks was named to the preseason All-Big 12 team Tuesday, as multiple reports emerged saying he isn't with the team this summer. Brooks remains eligible for the All-Big 12 preseason team, which is voted on by reporters who cover the league. His current situation is unclear and an OU spokesperson was unable to confirm his status. - Norman Transcript
