Zolten Osborne threw for 280 yards, David Portu blocked a field-goal attempt with 10 seconds left and Charleston Southern held on after scoring the last 14 points inside the final six minutes to beat Eastern Illinois 17-16 on Saturday. Osborne connected with Rashawn Cunningham on a 5-yard score to pull Charleston Southern to 16-10 with 5:49 left. The Buccaneers forced a three-and-out and then took the lead when Hakeem Watters scored on a 1-yard run. The six-play drive was highlighted by Osborne's 43-yar d pass to Watters. Cole LaCrue led the Panthers to the Charleston Southern 19 before Portu blocked Drew Schiller's 35-yard field-goal try. Osborne completed 26 of 38 passes without an interception. Mekhi Campfield and Cunningham combined for 11 catches f or 157 yards for Charleston Southern (3-6, 2-3 OVC-Big South). LaCrue threw for 123 yards including a 23-yard touchdown pass to Joe McNab for Eastern Illinois (3-5, 2-3 OVC-Big South). - AP College Football

WEEK 8 OVC-BIG SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zolten Osborne, QB, 6-1, 205, R-So., North Charleston, S.C., Charleston Southern,...Osborne threw a career-high four touchdown passes (without an interception), as Charleston Southern snapped a 13-game C onference losing streak dating back to the end of the 2023 season with a 29-24 win at Western Illinois. The redshirt sophomore completed 14-of-26 passes, averaging 18.7 yards per completion. He connected with freshman Rashawn Cunningham for a 16-yard sco re in the first quarter and the duo made repeated the connection on a 14-yard score later in the second quarter. After CSU had fallen behind 24-14, Osborne led scoring drives of 75 and 80 yards in the second half, connecting on scores of 42 and 30 yards to Jamil Bishop. Zolten Osborne threw four touchdown passes and Charleston Southern held off Western Illinois for a 29-24 victory on Saturday. Osborne threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Jamil Bishop to pull Charleston Southern to 24-21 midway through the third quarter. Th e pair connected for a 30-yarder to end the scoring with about 13 minutes remaining. Western Illinois punted twice and then couldn't convert on fourth-and-1 from the Charleston Southern 28 with 1:22 left.Osborne was 14-of-26 passing for 262 yards. Bishop finished with three catches for 80 yards. Rashawn Cunningham had four receptions for 95 yards and a pair of TD catches for the Buccaneers (2-6, 1-3 OVC-Big South). Carson Carswell completed 34 of 51 passes for 375 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Western Illinois (1-7, 0-4), which has lost five straight.
