 Czavian Teasett, Grambling State, Player News


  Josh McCormick kicked a 44-yard field goal with 21 seconds left and Grambling stunned a ranked Jackson State 26-24 in the HBCU Classic at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday. McCormick's game-winning kick for Grambling's Tigers (5-3, 2-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) came after Jared Lockhart's 1-yard touchdown run had given Jackson State's Tigers (5-2, 3-1), ranked 11th in the FCS coaches' poll, a 24-23 lead with 2:15 remaining. C'zavian Teasett directed the game-winning drive and finished with 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16-for-26 passing. Covadis Knighten had five receptions for 96 yards and a score. Andrerw Frazier had the other touchdown catch. JaCobian Morgan scored on a 7-yard run midway through the first quarter and Donovan Warren kicked a 30-yard field goal with 7 seconds left to give Jackson State a 10-0 lead.

Teasett connected with Knighten for a 59-yard touchdown with 1:56 left in the second quarter. Theodore Caballero's extra-point kick was blocked, but he added a 24-yard field goal with 3 seconds left to get Grambling within 10-9 at halftime. Clyde McClendon Jr. blocked a punt out of bounds at the Jackson State 7-yard line to set up the kick. Grambling took a 16-10 lead with the only score of the third quarter - Teasett's 16-yard touchdown run -then upped its advantage to 13 on Teasett's 26-yard touchdown pass to Frazier with 12:06 remaining. Lockhart drove Jackson State 92 yards in six plays, the last one a 62-yard scoring strike to Nate Rembert to cut it to 23-17 with 9:41 left. Three Jackson State quarterbacks combined for 250 yards on 13-for-26 passing. Donerio Davenport carried 11 times for 98 yards and Rembert caught four passes for 126 yards. - AP College Football

  C'zavian Teasett accounted for two touchdowns and Grambling scored the final 17 points to beat East Texas A&M 31-28 on Saturday night. Eric Rodriguez's 26-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Proctor gave East Texas A&M a 21-14 lead with 7:38 remaining in the third quarter. Byron Eaton Jr. then tied it 21-all with a 54-yard touchdown run on the Tigers' next possession. Theodore Caballero kicked a 41-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and Clyde McClendon Jr.'s 1-yard touchdown run with 1:56 left capped a 12-play, 77-yard drive that chewed up six minutes.

Teasett threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Covadis Knighten in the second quarter and his 1-yard TD run tied it 14-all early in the third. Teasett threw for 179 yards on 14-of-26 passing. Eaton Jr. finished with 69 yards rushing on six carries for Grambling (3-1). Rodriguez completed 23 of 33 passes for 229 yards and threw two touchdown passes and an interception for East Texas A&M (0-3). - AP College Football

  C'zavian Teasett accounted for four touchdowns, Tyrell Raby forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in overtime and Grambling beat Division-II Kentucky State 37-31 on Saturday night. Teassett was 13-of-27 passing for 228 yards and two TDs and added 99 yards rushing and two touchdowns on nine carries for Grambling (2-1). On the third play of OT, Torrance Bardell completed a pass over the middle but Raby stipped Jon McCall and ran 83-yards for the winning TD. Leland Gantz kicked a 43-yard field goal that made it 31-24 with 1:57 remaining in regulation but Teasett scored on a 17-yard run to cap an eight-play, 75-yard drive with 10 second left that forced OT.

Denim Johnson was 15-of-24 passing for 146 yards and his 3-yard touchdown run opened the scoring almost midway through the first quarter. Torrance Bardell threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Darius Cyprian that gave Kentucky State the lead for good a 28-24 with 7:18 to play. Teasett threw touchdown passes of 12 yards to Tyson Jones and 36 yards Keith Jones Jr. Chad Elzy Jr. scored on a 6-yard run late in the first quarter and Johnson threw an 11-yard TD pass to McCall that made it 21-10 late in the second. Grambling has won each of the three meetings between the programs, the most recent in 1953. - AP College Football
