 Devon Dampier, Utah, Player News

  11/28/25 - QB Devon DampierJr/2027, Utah, 5-10, 210 (DS#21 QB) + More +

Devon Dampier threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns, Elijah Davis returned an interception 97 yards for another score, and No. 14 Utah came from behind to beat Kansas 31-21 on Friday and keep its slim Big 12 championship hopes alive. Larry Simmons caught two TD passes, Wayshon Parker ran for 95 yards and Utah (10-2, 7-2, No. 13 CFP) picked off Jalon Daniels three times in the final game of his college career, helping the Utes reach the 10-win mark for the third time in the last five years. More importantly, the Utes can still play for a conference title. They need Arizona State to beat Arizona on Friday night, then Texas Tech to lose to West Virginia and BYU to beat UCF on Saturday - a long-shot scenario, to be sure, but a reason to turn on TVs. Utah won despite allowing 290 yards rushing, one week after beating Kansas State after allowing 472 on the ground. Daniels finished with 187 yards passing and a touchdown, and also rushed for a TD, though his turnovers led to a smattering of boos from Kansas fans, many of whom have endured the QB's highs and lows over the past six seasons.

Daniel Hishaw Jr. had 107 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Jayhawks (5-7, 3-6). Leshon Williams ran for 104. Utah looked as if it might turn Senior Day into a rout in the opening minutes, but the Kansas defense - which had let Leipold's team down so often this season - finally seemed to find its fight. The Jayhawks bottled up the Utes, who had been averaging 279.6 yards on the ground, and early on Dampier was having little success through the air, twice misfiring on fourth-down attempts. Utah led just 10-7 at halftime in a game it desperately needed to win. The Jayhawks briefly pulled ahead after the break, when Whittingham went for it on fourth down rather than kick a field goal on a cold, blustery day. Kansas made a stop, drove 67 yards, and Daniels' scoring sneak gave them a 14-10 advantage But the momentum swung for good on his two red-zone blunders early in the fourth quarter. First, Daniels was picked off while trying to throw the ball out of the end zone, and Utah needed just four plays to go 80 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. Then, after Kansas marched downfield again, Daniels was picked off by Davis near the goal line, and the junior cornerback returned it 97 yards to give the Utes a 24-14 lead with 7:52 remaining. Utah wound up scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to put the game away. - Utah/AP College Football

  11/22/25 - QB Devon DampierJr/2027, Utah, 5-10, 210 (DS#21 QB) + More +

Devon Dampier threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, including a go-ahead 1-yard score with 56 seconds left, and No. 13 Utah rallied from a 12-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter for a wild 51-47 victory over Kansas State on Saturday. The game turned on an unusual play. After KSU took a 47-35 lead on Joe Jackson's third rushing touchdown of the game, the Wildcats went for 2, but Utah's Tao Johnson intercepted a tipped ball and returned it to the Kansas State end zone for 2 points to make it 47-37. Dampier's 20-yard TD toss to Larry Simmons got Utah within 47-44 with 2:47 left. After the Utes forced a punt, Dampier led the winning drive, setting up his go-ahead score with a 59-yard run to the 1 on fourth down. Lander Barton intercepted Avery Johnson's pass with 49 seconds remaining to seal it for Utah (9-2, 6-2 Big 12, No. 12 CFP), which kept alive its hopes for a league title and a College Football Playoff berth.

Jackson rushed for a school-record 293 yards for Kansas State (5-6, 4-4), topping Darren Sproles' mark of 292 yards set in 2004. The Wildcats finished with a program-record 472 yards rushing, the most by a Division I team in a loss since Army ran for 534 in a 52-49 loss to North Texas on Nov. 18, 2017. Dampier threw for 259 yards and rushed for 94. Byrd Ficklin rushed for three touchdowns and Wayshawn Parker had 100 yards on 19 carries for Utah, which had 551 yards of offense to 574 for Kansas State. VJ Payne knocked the ball out of Dampier's hand and Cody Stufflebean recovered the fumble at the Utah 26-yard line to set up Jackson's 24-yard TD rush midway through the fourth. Dampier found Dallen Bentley for a 38-yard TD reception and Ficklin ran for his third TD to put Utah up 35-31 early in the third quarter. But Johnson threw to Garrett Oakley for a TD on fourth down and Luis Rodriguez added a 36-yard field goal to put KSU ahead 41-35 with 8:51 to play. Utah's defensive leader, John Henry Daley, left the game with a leg injury late in the first quarter, when the defensive end already had two sacks and 3 1/2 tackles for loss. Daley grabbed his leg on a non-contact play and was helped to the locker room. - Utah/AP College Football

Devon Dampier threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 24 Utah to a 45-14 victory over No. 17 Cincinnati on Saturday night, snapping the Bearcats' seven-game winning streak. Ryan Davis led Utah with a season-high 132 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. Wayshawn Parker added 104 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The Utes (7-2, 4-2 Big 12) racked up 480 total yards – including 267 rushing yards. Utah's victory kept the Utes in the hunt for a Big 12 championship game berth. "I think the biggest thing for us is there's still a way for us to get to the championship," Dampier said. "That's been on our mind. That's been our goal since the beginning." Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby threw for 221 yards and a touchdown and ran for another, but completed just 33% of his pass attempts. Cyrus Allen had 133 yards receiving, highlighted by an 88-yard touchdown, on two catches for the Bearcats.

Cincinnati (7-2, 5-1) dropped a game behind undefeated BYU in the Big 12 standings. The Bearcats host the Cougars in three weeks. "I told our team in the locker room we still got a lot to play for, everything to play for," Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield said. Utah covered 94 yards in 16 plays on its opening drive, converting twice on fourth down to keep the drive going and taking 7:07 off the clock. Davis punctuated the drive by breaking a couple of tackles and putting the Utes on the board with a 34-yard catch and run. Cincinnati tied it when Sorsby faked a pitch and raced untouched through an open seam for a 22-yard touchdown. Utah answered quickly, taking a 14-7 lead late in the first quarter when Parker took a direct snap in for a 39-yard score. Cincinnati generated 119 yards on eight carries while Utah had 94 yards on 14 carries in the first quarter. - Utah/AP College Football

  10/12/25 - QB Devon DampierJr/2027, Utah, 5-10, 210 (DS#21 QB) + More +

Devin Dampier ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns as Utah ran over No. 21 Arizona State 42-10 on Saturday night. Dampier, who has battled lower leg injuries this season, looked fresh after Utah's bye week and became the first Utes QB to rush for more than 100 yards since Travis Wilson against Oregon in 2015. "(The offensive line) gave me great space to make plays," Dampier said. "I felt my best for sure."

Severe thunderstorms soaked the field but didn't slow down Dampier, who avoided tacklers on just 10 carries. "You saw some of the moves he made tonight. He just wasn't capable of making those moves last few weeks," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "We're elated he's back to 100 percent." Dampier ran twice for touchdowns in the first half, from 12 yards and from 24 yards out, and then added a 9-yard score in the third quarter. Dampier was 7 for 12 for 104 yards passing as Utah (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) rarely felt the need to throw the ball. Arizona State starting QB Sam Leavitt missed the game with a right foot injury. Sixth-year senior Jeff Sims - one of the most experienced backups in the country with starts at Georgia Tech, Nebraska and ASU - was 18 for 38 for 124 yards passing. - AP College Football

Devon Dampier threw a career-high four touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead Utah to a 48-14 win over West Virginia on Saturday. Dampier bounced back from a lopsided home loss to Texas Tech last week in which he didn't thrown a touchdown pass, was intercepted twice, fumbled the ball away once and the Utes were held to 263 total yards. Utah (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) gained yards in chunks against the Mountaineers, scored on its first three drives and was never challenged by a West Virginia offense that was missing several key players, including quarterback Nicco Marchiol.

Dampier scored on a 7-yard run. He threw TD tosses of 7 yards to freshman tight end JJ Buchanan, 32 yards to Ryan Davis, 2 yards to tight end Dallen Bentley and 11 yards to running back Wayshawn Parker. By then, Utah led 35-0 early in the third quarter. Dampier completed 21 of 26 passes for 237 yards in three quarters of play. He was intercepted once. Jaylen Henderson got the start in Marchiol's place but was ineffective and replaced after halftime. The Mountaineers (2-3, 0-2) turned the ball over on downs twice in the first half and were outgained 532-346 for the game. Redshirt freshman Khalil Wilkins, one of five West Virginia quarterbacks, showed some promise in Henderson's place. He had runs of 17 and 10 yards before throwing a 39-yard TD pass to Cam Vaughn in the third quarter. It was West Virginia's worst home loss since a 41-point setback to Kansas State in 2012. - Utah/AP College Football

Devon Dampier led four consecutive touchdown drives in the second half, and No. 20 Utah beat Wyoming 31-6 on Saturday night in the rivals' first meeting since 2010. Dampier completed eight straight passes on Utah's third-quarter scoring drives, finishing 27 of 41 for 230 yards and two TDs while adding 86 yards rushing. The Utes (3-0) scored on every second-half possession and finished with 311 yards on the ground. "I wanted to see what our offense is built of. For us to not have a touchdown and then be able to come out after halftime and go 100 percent is awesome to see," Dampier said.

NaQuari Rogers ran for a 1-yard TD to cap a 10-play, 83-yard drive to begin the second half. On the next possession, Dampier engineered a 19-play, 80-yard march. On the final play, he dropped the ball after his dropback, picked it up and then threw a 8-yard scoring strike to Larry Simmons with 0:23 left in the third quarter. After an interception by Jackson Bennee, Dampier connected with JJ Buchanan for a 14-yard TD to make it 24-0 with 8:35 remaining. Terron Kellman rushed for a 15-yard TD on fourth-and-1 with 4:23 to play for Wyoming's only score. Utah answered with Hunter Andrews' 11-yard scoring rush. "Devon Dampier is really good...and they won both sides of the line of scrimmage, particularly in the second half," Wyoming coach Jay Sawvel said. - Utah/AP College Football

Devon Dampier matched his career best with three touchdown passes to lead No. 25 Utah to a 63-9 win over Cal Poly of the Football Championship Subdivision on Saturday. Dampier connected with Wayshawn Parker for a 52-yard touchdown to cap Utah's first drive. He then found Ryan Davis for a 4-yard TD in the second quarter. Dampier, who finished 17 of 23 for 192 yards, added an 11-yard scoring strike to Dallen Bentley in the third quarter before taking a seat. "It was awesome. Just being in the stadium, it was as electric as everyone had talked about it," Dampier, a New Mexico transfer, said about his first game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

NaQuari Rogers added two 1-yard TD runs in the last 1:44 of the second quarter for a 35-6 lead at halftime. "It brings me joy, seeing everybody happy. Like, I know I scored, but it was like, the whole team scored," said Parker, who also had a 43-yard TD run. The Mustangs (1-1) got two field goals from Noah Serna and one from Gianluca Dimauro. Utah (2-0) moved to 17-1 in its last 18 home openers under coach Kyle Whittingham as plenty of reserves got playing time, including quarterback Byrd Ficklin, who rushed for two TDs. "Controlled the game, really, from start to finish and a lot of guys made good contributions," Whittingham said. - Utah/AP College Football

Devon Dampier led Utah's attack in the air and on the ground in a 43-10 victory over touted transfer Nico Iamaleava and UCLA on Saturday night in the teams' season opener. The former Pac-12 rivals each sported new quarterbacks and new offensive coordinators. Iamaleava led Tennessee to the College Football Playoff last season and then abruptly left to head closer to home and play for the Bruins (0-1). He was 11 of 22 for 136 yards with one TD and one interception. Offensive coordinator and QB coach Tino Sunseri came to Westwood from Indiana, where the Hoosiers averaged 41.3 points - second-best in the nation - and reached the CFP.

Dampier followed offensive coordinator Jason Beck from New Mexico to Salt Lake City after the Lobos ranked fourth in the FBS with 484.3 yards per game a year ago. Dampier was 21 of 25 for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Both quarterbacks were their teams' leading rushers. Dampier led the Utes (1-0) with 16 carries for 87 yards, while Iamaleava had 13 carries for 47 yards. The Utes led 20-0 on TD runs of 13 yards by Wayshawn Parker and 8 yards by two-way star Smith Snowden in the first quarter. The team piled up 256 yards of offense in the first half and finished with 492. The Bruins' lone TD came on Iamaleava's 19-yard pass to former Utah player Anthony Woods in the second quarter. - Utah/AP College Football
