Ty Simpson and Isaiah Horton connected three times for touchdowns, and No. 10 Alabama escaped Auburn with a 27-20 victory in the rivalry known as the Iron Bowl on Saturday night. The Crimson Tide advanced to face fourth-ranked Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship game next week in Atlanta. Alabama (10-2, 7-1) beat Georgia 24-21 on the road in the regular season. The Tide were on the ropes again at Jordan-Hare Stadium. After leading 17-0 early in the second quarter, they found themselves t ied in the waning minutes. But Simpson found Horton on a fourth-and-2 play from the Auburn 6 with 3:50 remaining. It was their third hookup of the night, including 6- and 3-yard scores in the first half.Simpson completed 19 of 35 passes for a seas on-low 122 yards. Horton finished with five catches for 35 yards, with all three scores coming in the red zone. Alabama won despite totaling 276 yards. Alabama's Jam Miller ran for 83 yards before leaving with an injury. Ashton Daniels led Auburn (5-7, 1 -7) with 259 passing and 108 yards rushing. Malcolm Simmons hauled in two long passes, including a 64-yarder for a touchdown and a 66-yarder that set up a score. Daniels had the Tigers on the move late, taking advantage of a pass-interference penalty and scrambling for a first down on fourth-and-2, but star receiver Cam Coleman fumbled with 33 seconds left. - Alabama/AP College Football

Six different players scored touchdowns, including two apiece from Kevin Riley and AK Dear, and No. 10 Alabama cruised to a 56-0 win against lower-division Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Alabama (9-2) held out a few key players - receiver Germie Bernard, center Parker Brailsford and tight end Josh Cuevas - with the Iron Bowl on tap next week. Cuevas was injured in practice, and his availability moving forward is up in the air, said coach Kalen DeBoer. Even without those starters, the Crimson Tide outgain ed the Panthers 539-34 - hardly a surprise given one is a powerhouse program, and the other is a losing team from the Football Championship Subdivision. The lopsided contest allowed for the majority of Alabama's roster to see playing time. Quarterb acks Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell led scoring drives. Alabama ran for a season-high 269 yards, with all eight offensive touchdowns coming on the ground. Alabama's eight rushing TDs are the program's most in a game since 1979 against Vanderb ilt. A lackluster ground game has been an area of emphasis for Alabama all season. The Tide rank 123rd nationally with 108.7 yards rushing a game. Alabama dominated from the onset, intercepting Eastern Illinois (3-9) on the opening possession and turning that into a touchdown. On the following possession, Alabama blocked a punt to set up another quick score. In total, 31 of Alabama's 38 first-half plays were in Eastern Illinois territory. It wasn't all good for the home team, though. Simpson threw two i nterceptions, giving him seven consecutive games with a turnover, and Alabama's Conor Talty missed a 28-yard field goal. Boos rained down from the Bryant-Denny Stadium crowd after Talty's miss. He was eventually replaced. - Alabama/AP College Football

No. 4 Alabama delivered its best defensive effort in Southeastern Conference play this season and beat LSU 20-9 on Saturday night, keeping the Tigers out of the end zone for the first time since the 2012 national championship game. The Crimson Tide (8-1, 6-0 SEC, No. 4 CFP) allowed just 13 first downs and 232 yards while winning their eighth consecutive game. Alabama extended its home winning streak to 17 games, the longest in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and remained on track for a spot in the league title game and the College Football Playoff. "I feel like the defense has been pretty solid," coach Kalen DeBoer said. "There's less of the explosive plays and guys are fitting their gaps. We missed a few opportunities with the ball on the ground or in the air. I like the way the defense is playing and they'll go back to work tomorrow." Ty Simpson completed 21 of 35 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown for the Crimson Tide, but he had several missed opportunities on downfield throws that could have put the game away. "I think our guys practiced hard," DeBoer said. "There's just some things we can do better to separate ourselves in the third quarter when we have a chance to put a team away. There's been a couple games now where we haven't done that and we need to get better at it." Garrett Nussmeier completed 18 of 21 passes for 121 yards for LSU (5-4, 2-4), but he was benched in the third quarter in favor of sophomore Michael Van Buren, who completed 5 of 11 passes for 52 yards in relief. It wa s a disappointing debut for LSU interim coach Frank Wilson, who took over when Brian Kelly was fired. The Tigers were penalized 10 times and were limited to nine points in four red-zone trips as they lost to the Crimson Tide for the third straight year. "I thought (Nussmeier) did some good things early on," Wilson said. "As we got into the depths of the game, we just thought it was an opportunity to change up and throw them off." A relatively modest performance by Alabama's offense - 344 total yards - w as boosted by explosive plays. Simpson completed four passes of 30 or more yards in the first half; LSU had only given up five all season before Saturday. However, getting a run game that only mustered 56 yards back on track will be critical late in the season and potentially in the playoff. "We missed opportunities that will help open up the box," DeBoer said. "We've got to do a better job blocking and better job falling ahead for yards. Those extra yards can hurt them. We've got to give the running ba cks better lanes and we've certainly got to be better than we were." - Alabama/AP College Football

Ty Simpson threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns, including the clincher on fourth down to Daniel Hill with 3:16 to go, and eighth-ranked Alabama held off No. 14 Missouri 27-24 on Saturday to give the Crimson Tide their fifth consecutive win. Jam Mill er added 85 yards rushing before leaving with an injury in the fourth quarter, and Kevin Riley and Isaiah Horton also had TD catches for Alabama (5-1, 3-0 SEC), which has won seven straight over Missouri dating to Sept. 8, 1975. Beau Pribula tried to ral ly the Tigers (5-1, 1-1) late, hitting Donovan Olugbode for a touchdown with 1:39 to go. And after Alabama pounced on the onside kick, Missouri was able to force a quick punt, getting the ball back with 1:17 left and no timeouts. Pribula connected with O lugbode again on fourth down to get close to midfield, but he followed with a pair of incompletions, then overshot his intended target and was picked off by Alabama defensive back Dijon Lee Jr. to put the game away. The loss ended the Tigers’ 15-game h ome winning streak, the second-longest nationally.Pribula finished with 167 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and he also was the Tigers’ most effective runner with 61 yards and another score. The nation’s top rusher, Ah mad Hardy, was held to just 52 yards. Missouri got off to a good start, seemingly stunning Alabama on its opening drive. It took just six plays to march 78 yards, and Pribula threw a nifty lob to tight end Brett Norfleet down the sideline for a 26-yard t ouchdown and a 7-0 lead. Yet the Crimson Tide not only regained their composure, they regained control. Simpson was nearly perfect on an answering touchdown drive. And after Alabama forced a three-and-out, the junior QB drove the Crimson Tide downfield a gain, zipping a pass to Horton on third-and-long for a 16-yard touchdown pass and a 14-7 lead. After each team added a field goal before halftime, Missouri took advantage of Simpson’s fumble - his only big mistake - on the first play of the second half . Pribula juked his way into the end zone three plays later to tie the game 17-all. Alabama took over and, after Simpson converted on fourth-and-8 with a throw to freshman Lotzeir Brooks, the SEC’s top passer found Hill in the end zone on fourth-and-go al from the Missouri 2 with just over 3 minutes remaining. - AP College Football
