  FEB 22 SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Paxton Robertson, Western Carolina, Fr., Kicker, Knoxville, Tenn.,...Western Carolina freshman kicker Paxton Robertson handled his usual kickoff duties and filled in admirably for starting punter Brandon Dickerson in the Catamounts' 35-7 loss to No. 15 Furman. The rookie from Knoxville, Tennessee, kicked off twice for an average of 63.0 yards and punted a career-high eight times for an average of 43.0 yards. Robertson had three punts of 50 yards or more, including a career-long 55-yarder, and saw five kicks downed inside the Paladins' 20-yard line.   The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers preserved their undefeated season with a tackle at the one-yard line on the final play of a 22-17 win over No. 8 BYU last Saturday. Their notable win over previously-unbeaten BYU helped Coastal Carolina join Rice as the Reveal Suits National Teams of the Week for games of the weekend of Dec. 5, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The Chanticleers' win was historic as it was their first over a top-10 FBS program and second-ever over a ranked team in a game that was hastily put together only two days prior.

Coastal's 10-0 start is the best in Sun Belt Conference history and part of an 11-game win streak dating back to last season. Mateo Sudipo tackled BYU receiver Dax Milne at the one-yard line to finish off a game in which CCU ran for 281 yards against a Cougars defense that entered the game sixth nationally in rushing defense at 88.3 yards per game. The rushing success allowed the Chanticleers to hold the ball for 37:51. On the other side, Coastal's defense held up BYU's offense averaging 47.6 points per game to a season-low 17 points. - Coastal Carolina Football

  The Gulf South Conference will postpone competition in basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball until at least January 1. These sports are identified as high contact risk sports by the NCAA and are subject to significant testing requirements for all student-athletes and "inner bubble" personnel. All practice, strength and conditioning, team meetings, and other countable athletic related activities (CARA) shall be subject to NCAA rules, NCAA health and safety requirements, and institutional discretion. In the sports of football, soccer, and volleyball, the conference will evaluate options for spring competition that provide meaningful competition for these student-athletes. A spring season may not feature the use of traditional formats for regular season play or tournaments. - Gulf South Football

  2019 AFCA DIVISION II COACHES' FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: QB Rogan Wells, R-Jr., Valdosta St. (Ga.),...The Fort Mill, S.C., native, is 28-3 all-time as a starting quarterback for the Blazers as he went 10-1 this season and helped VSU to a 25-game winning streak dating back to 2017. Wells was the Harlon Hill runner-up a season ago and was named Most Valuable Player for the D2 National Championship as the Blazers won a 49-47 thriller over Ferris State last December. This season, Wells has continued his onslaught of the school and Gulf South Conference record books as he is eighth all-time in school history in rushing yards (1,932), fifth in rushing touchdowns (25), sixth in career completions (543), third in passing touchdowns (69) and second all-time in school history in total offense with 9,062 yards. He is tied for eighth all-time in GSC history in passing touchdowns and ninth in total offense, while his 88.5 completion percentage this season at Albany State is tenth all-time in GSC history and his 71.7 completion percentage for the season (213 of 297) is good for fourth in the GSC currently, while it is fourth nationally for 2019. - Valdosta State Football

He was one of just two defenders to return an INT for a touchdown among the top 10 in the SoCon, doing so with a 23-yard pick-six in the season-opener against Mercer. His team-best eight passes defended ranked eighth in the conference, adding five pass break-ups to his three interceptions. He is third in the league in passing yards (2,315) for 41st nationally, while ranking second in the conference in passing yards per game at a 231.5 clip for 33rd nationally.

  NOV 18 SOCON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jayden Pauling, Western Carolina, R-So., LB, Raleigh, N.C.,...Western Carolina linebacker Jayden Pauling had eight tackles, seven of which were solo and two of which went for 11 lost yards, and forced three fumbles in the Catamounts' 31-13 loss to Samford on Saturday. Two of Pauling's forced fumbles came on sacks, while the third came late in the fourth quarter to halt a Samford drive. With a team-high five forced fumbles on the season, the redshirt sophomore from Raleigh, North Carolina, is just two shy of the program's single-season record of seven set in 1972.   Valdosta State and West Florida have qualified for the NCAA Division II Football Championship. Valdosta State earned its eighth GSC Football Championship this season, finishing the year undefeated. The Blazers' 25-game winning streak that extends back to 2017 is the longest in league history. This is the second straight year that the defending national champions are the top seed in Super Region 2. This is the fifth time in six years that VSU has advanced to the national postseason. Valdosta State has the fourth ranked total offense in the country, averaging 532.3 yards per game. Last year's Harlon Hill Trophy runner-up Rogan Wells had another remarkable year under center for the Blazers and will once again lead the playoff push. He ranks fourth in the country in completion percentage (71.7) and ninth in total offense (299.5 yards per game). As the top seed, Valdosta State has earned a bye, and will face the winner of the Wingate/West Florida matchup. The Argos will travel to Wingate and face the Bulldogs on Saturday, November 23.   NOV 11 GULF SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rogan Wells, Valdosta State, Passing Yards: 350, Rushing Yards: 63, Touchdowns: 1,...Notes: Wells had an impressive game as the Blazers broke the GSC record for consecutive wins with their 24th victory since 2017 in a thrilling 26-21 win over #20 West Florida. The win also gave the Blazers at least a share of their eighth GSC Championship. This is the ninth time in his career that he has won this award, tying him for second most in league history.   NOV 11 SOCON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ty Harris, Western Carolina, Jr., LB, Dacula, Ga.,...Western Carolina linebacker Ty Harris shared game-high honors with 11 tackles, eight solo, in the Catamounts' 23-20, overtime win over ETSU on Saturday. The junior from Dacula, Georgia, counted a career-best 4.0 tackles for loss among his total, the most in a game by a SoCon player this season. Harris helped Western Carolina hold the Bucs to just 265 yards of total offense, the fewest yards the Catamounts have allowed to a Division I opponent this season. The weekly award is the first of Harris' career.
