  10/01/20 - Michael Penix Jr.rSr/2024, Washington, 6-2, 216 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Penix has all of the tools to become an elite college quarterback, he just hasn't been able to stay healthy early in his career. The 6-foot-3, 218-pounder was limited to just three games as a true freshman in 2018 and six games in 2019. But in those six games last season, Penix was impressive. He set the program single-season record for completion percentage (68.8) while throwing for 1,394 yards and 10 touchdowns to four interceptions. While the Hoosiers won't draw up many designed runs for Penix, he can still make plays with his feet and is and accurate thrower on the move. He rushed for 118 yards and two scores last season. - Ann Arbor News

UAB has established itself as one of the top defensive units in the nation over the past few years. The Blazers are coming off back-to-back seasons in which they ranked Top 10 nationally in total defense (9th in 2018 and 8th in 2019). A major key for their success has been the ability to rush the quarterback, compiling 92 combined sacks and 217 TFL in the last two seasons.   08/06/20 - Patrick OBrienrSr/2022, Washington, 6-4, 220 (DS#31 QB) + More +

Several CSU Rams football players declared their support for new coach Steve Addazio and the athletics department Tuesday night, denying allegations in a report published Tuesday by the Fort Collins Coloradoan earlier in the day. The report cited statements from 10 anonymous sources within the department who criticized CSU athletics' handling of positive COVID-19 tests. Those sources accused department officials of altering contact tracing reports so players could continue practicing and claimed players were threatened with reduced playing time if they quarantine.

One football player who declined to be identified described the situation as a "cover-up...it's not about the health and safety of the players but about just trying to make money off the players." Four CSU football players, including senior quarterback Patrick O'Brien, senior running back Marcus McElroy Jr. and senior defensive lineman Toby McBride, strongly disputed assertions in the report when asked by The Post for comment Tuesday evening. "They're not forcing us to play," O'Brien told The Post. "They're not saying, 'If you get sick, you still need to come.' I never got that from any of (my coaches)." - Denver Post
