Brandon Bowling caught two touchdown passes from Logan Bonner during the decisive third quarter, and Utah State won its first Mountain West Conference title with a 46-13 rout of No. 19 San Diego State on Saturday. Bonner passed for 318 yards and four TDs, while fellow Arkansas State transfer Bowling had eight catches for a career-high 154 yards. The Aggies (10-3) punctuated their inspiring turnaround under first-year coach Blake Anderson by blowing out the short-handed Aztecs (11-2) for their first win over an AP Top 25 opponent since 2015.

Utah State earned a berth in the inaugural LA Bowl on Dec. 18 at SoFi Stadium, the Los Angeles Rams' multibillion-dollar arena located about 12 miles northwest of the site of this victory at San Diego State's temporary home. The Aggies are likely to face Oregon State. Jordon Brookshire passed for 117 yards before getting replaced by Jalen Mayden for San Diego State, which had its four-game winning streak snapped in the school's most lopsided loss since a 35-point defeat at Ohio State in September 2013. Utah State's 46 points were the most allowed in Aztecs coach Brady Hoke's two stints and four seasons at SDSU. - Utah State/AP College Football

Spencer Petras will be the starting quarterback when No. 15 Iowa plays second-ranked Michigan in the Big Ten championship game on Saturday night. Petras was listed first on the depth chart released at the start of the week, and coach Kirk Ferentz made it official Tuesday. Petras started every game last year and the first nine games this season. He missed two full games with an injured right (throwing) shoulder before replacing Alex Padilla after halftime of last week's 28-21 win at Nebraska. "The way I see it, I got hurt, Alex stepped in and did a really good job," Petras said. "I just think at this time of year, it's not as much of a competition. That takes place in fall camp. It's more who can help the team win the best that week. When I was hurt, that was certainly Alex. It seems right now that it's me." Ferentz said it was a "gut feeling" that prompted him to put Petras in the game with Iowa trailing the Cornhuskers 14-6 at half last Friday. "I thought he did a good job," Ferentz said. "And he's done a lot of good things over two years. We haven't forgotten about that at all." Petras was 7 of 13 for 102 yards, had the game-winning 2-yard touchdown dive in the fourth quarter and had a critical third-down completion for a first down on the previous possession when Iowa tied the game on a field goal. "It's definitely a lot of fun to get back out there," Petras said. "No one's goal is to be on the bench. So yeah, it felt good to be back out there." - AP College Football

Logan Bonner threw five touchdown passes and Utah State rolled to a 35-10 win at New Mexico State on Friday, earning a berth in the Mountain West Conference title game. The Aggies (9-3, 6-2) needed a win and San Diego State's 27-16 win over Boise State to earn the Mountain Division crown and a date with the Aztecs on Dec. 4. Utah State's only other trip to the MWC title game was in 2013. Bonner was 16 of 23 for 306 yards and became the sixth Utah State quarterback to surpass 3,000 yards. The five touchdowns gave him 32 for the season, tying the school record set by Jordan Love in 2018. In its previous five road games Utah State had to overcome a double digit deficit but with Bonner and a dominant defense, no rally was needed to finish the regular season 6-0 on the road. The defense held the Lobos to 186 yards and forced six fumbles, recovering two.

Bonner connected with Derek Wright for a 27-yard touchdown in the first quarter and threw three scoring passes in the second, the last a 76-yard hookup with Wright. Wright finished with a career high 150 yards on four catches. Jordan Nathan and Brandon Bowling had 39- and 36-yard scoring plays in the second quarter and Justin McGriff a 10-yarder in the third. Star receiver Deven Thompkins was limited to five catches for 35 yards but that was enough to give him 1,543 yards, breaking the school record of 1,531 set by Kevin Curtis in 2001. Utah State went undefeated on the road in 1907, 1911 and 1923 but those wins in total added up to just seven. - Utah State/AP College Football

Xazavian Valladay added 145 yards rushing for Wyoming (6-5, 2-5 Mountain West Conference) and Cameron Stone scored on a 99-yard kickoff return. Joshua Cobbs caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Williams with 6:50 left in the second quarter and, after the Cowboys defense forced Utah State into its second consecutive three-and-out, John Hoyland kicked a 28-yard field goal to give Wyoming a 24-14 lead at halftime.   Connor Coles kicked a career-best four field goals, including a 34-yarder to give Utah State a two-score lead with five minutes left, and the Aggies held off Colorado State 26-24 on Friday night. Coles was a perfect four-for-four on the night with kicks of 45. 30. 42 and 34 yards, his last giving the Aggies (5-2, 3-1 Mountain West) a 26-17 lead. Colorado State's Todd Centeio, who passed for 282 yards, needed 81 seconds to tear 73 yards downfield and answer with a 13-yard pass to Gary Williams that shaved the Utah State lead to two points. Centeio and the Rams (3-4, 2-1) nearly pulled off a stunner, taking a final possession 61 yards in 44 seconds only to have a 42-yard field goal attempt sail wide.

Utah State started hot with Luke Bonner, 233 yards passing, hooking up with Derek Wright on a pair of touchdown strikes, including an over-the-shoulder catch for a 38-yard touchdown. Deven Thompkins made six catches for 104 yards - his seventh 100-yard game. Bonner endured eight sacks - a season high for the Colorado State defense - for a loss of 52 yards, had four passes broken up and was intercepted once. The swarming Rams also made 13 tackles for loss. Between the sacks and the tackles behind the line, Colorado State forced 113 yards in losses on Utah State. David Bailey ran for a pair of short touchdowns for Colorado State, and gained 159 yards on 30 carries. The yardage is his career-best with the Rams, though he has a 181-yard game while at Boston College. - Utah State/AP College Football

Spencer Petras threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Nico Ragaini to complete No. 3 Iowa's comeback from a two-touchdown deficit, No. 4 Penn State's offense did next to nothing after quarterback Sean Clifford was knocked out of the game and the Hawkeyes held on for a bruising 23-20 victory Saturday. The Hawkeyes (6-0, 3-0) took control of the Big Ten West with their 12th straight win and thrust themselves into the College Football Playoff conversation. Penn State (5-1, 2-1) lost for the first time in 10 games and headed back to Happy Valley with a list of injuries that could make its path through the rest of the season difficult.

When Petras took a knee in victory formation to end the game, students and other fans poured out of their end zone seats to celebrate. Bodies were packed together the entire width of the field from the south end zone to the 10-yard line on the other end. "It's a pretty special place when the lights go on and the sun goes down," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. The Hawkeyes' grinding offense isn't built to play from behind, but it managed to come back in the biggest game at Kinnick Stadium since then-No. 1 Iowa beat then-No. 2 Michigan in 1985. Iowa won the field-position battle thanks to the work of punter Tory Taylor, who repeatedly pinned Penn State deep in its own end after Clifford went out of the game in the second quarter. - Iowa/AP College Football
