Henry-Cole, a grad transfer from Utah, joins a Cougar backfield that includes BYU's leader in carries the past two seasons, Lopini Katoa, and young backs Jackson McChesney and Tyler Allgeier. During four years with the Utes, which included a redshirt season in 2018 while dealing with an injury, Henry-Cole rushed for 469 yards and four touchdowns with a 5.2 yards-per-carry average while backing up the program's all-time leading rusher, Zack Moss.

Last year, the Cougars had Ty'Son Williams, a South Carolina grad transfer, lead the team in rushing the first month of the season before tearing his ACL during the fourth game of the year. The hope is Henry-Cole - who had three games of 50-plus rushing yards at Utah, including a 79-yard effort last year against Washington State - can come in and contribute immediately in a similar fashion. - Deseret News

Two years ago, USC graduate transfer Jalen Greene made a huge impact in his lone season with Utah State's football program. The Aggies are undoubtedly hopeful they can receive a similar level of production from one of Greene's former teammates at USC. USU has signed another former Trojan in safety C.J. Pollard, a graduate transfer who will spend his final season of eligibility this fall with the Aggies. Pollard's decision to sign with the Aggies was first reported by Brian Phillips of Ustateaggies.com and confirmed to The Herald Journal by a person close to USU's program.

Pollard will join three other graduate transfers from Pac-12 Conference teams on USU's 2020 roster. Defensive linemen Nick Heninger (Utah) and Marcus Moore (UCLA), and cornerback Terin Adams (Arizona State) will finish out their collegiate eligibility this upcoming season. Pollard was a highly touted safety coming out of Serra (California) High School. The native of Carson, California, received scholarship offers from several other Power 5 Conference programs, including Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon and Utah, and was a 4-star recruit according to 247sports. - Herald Journal Tribune

The most prominent story of the recent NFL Draft circled not around the No. 1 pick, Joe Burrow, or the No. 2, Chase Young. It wasn't the Dolphins taking Tua Tagovailoa. It was Green Bay going out of its way to select Utah State's own Jordan Love. That two-fisted maneuver - the move up and the pick itself - created more buzz than any other personnel deal through the entire offseason, other than some quarterback moving from New England to Tampa Bay. And it will go on stirring discussion for the foreseeable future because of the man Love's drafting affects the most: Aaron Rodgers. Talk about tugging on Superman's cape - that's precisely what the Packers did to their All-Pro quarterback.

At first, Rodgers was miffed and bothered by the decision, wanting help in the form of a receiver or some other weapon the Pack offense could use sooner rather than later, considering Green Bay lost in the conference championship game last time around. "I'm not going to say that I was thrilled by the pick," Rodgers said. Since then, he seems to be playing nice, trying to be a good team leader, trying to act as though mentoring his replacement is no big thing. "He's not to blame at all," Rodgers said of Love. "I'm excited to work with him. He seems like a good kid." - Salt Lake Tribune

The California State University system - including Mountain West members Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State - will not hold in-person fall classes because of the coronavirus, calling into question what will happen with athletics. A repeated mantra among college sports administrators is that if students aren't on campus, sports won't take place. This could provide the first test of that stance as it threatens the football season, which drives revenue for NCAA athletics. In a statement Tuesday evening, the Colorado Springs-based Mountain West conference said further determinations are needed from public health and safety figures before any sweeping declarations are made regarding the fall sports season. "No decisions on athletics have been made," the statement said. Air Force football is scheduled to visit Fresno State on Sept. 26 and go to San Jose State on Oct. 10. - Colorado Springs Gazette

The only other time a Utah State quarterback was selected in the first round of the NFL draft, he lasted 16 seasons in the league, started 66 games and threw for 12,896 yards and 84 touchdowns. Jordan Love is hopeful to embark on his own lengthy run in the NFL and he took his first step Thursday night by being scooped up by Green Bay Packers in the opening round of the 2020 NFL draft. Love, who was taken 26th overall, joins Bill Munson - the No. 7 overall pick in 1964 - as the only USU signal callers to hear their names called in the first round of this annual event. "It was one of those things where he was the best player left and, again, we're excited to get him," said Brian Gutekunst, Green Bay's general manager, in a conference call. "We think he has a really good future in this league and he's coming from a place where he's done some really good things, but he has a lot to learn too. And I think we're a very good fit for his development."

The Packers originally had the 30th pick, but traded up to select Love. Green Bay's starting quarterback is future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, who is a 15-year veteran, eight-time Pro-Bowler and two-time NFL MVP. Led by the 36-year-old Rodgers, the Packers went 13-3 last season and lost to San Francisco in the NFC championship game. "For me, I was just hoping to (get drafted)," Love said in a conference call. "That was my goal for the first part of this, just make it and figure out how to handle that wherever I go. But being in this situation, I would say that this is a really good situation to be in - not being thrown out there (immediately). I'm behind one of the great quarterbacks of the league, so just being able to sit behind him and learn, what's better than that? So I think this is going to be a really good situation for me." - Herald Journal Tribune

For the third straight draft as general manager, Brian Gutekunst made a trade in the first round, and this time he drafted a quarterback. The Packers traded their fourth-round pick (No. 136 overall) to Miami to move up four spots, from No. 30 to No. 26, to select Utah State quarterback Jordan Love on Thursday night. Love (6-4, 224) is a potential QB of the future who is known for a strong arm and a lot of ability with his feet. He's a native of Bakersfield, Calif., who took over as Utah State's starting QB in 2017, when he started six games. He had one year of college eligibility remaining but decided to enter the draft. - Packers.com

Love figures to be the only quarterback whose value may potentially match the Saints availability at No. 24, and he is something of a polarizing prospect. When it comes to physical traits, Love fits the bill. He is big (6-foot-3, 224 pounds); he can move (4.74-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine); and he possesses tantalizing arm strength that is evident in his powerful, loose delivery. The reasons Love may be there when the Saints pick at No. 24: He played against mid-major competition at Utah State and did not flash against superior opponents, throwing two touchdowns against four interceptions in three games against ranked teams last season. In general, Love turned over the ball too often last season, throwing 17 interceptions and losing a pair of fumbles. New Orleans could offer an ideal situation for a player like Love, giving him an opportunity to learn and grow for a year (if not more) under Brees. Then again, the Saints already have a quarterback they have been developing behind Brees in Hill, so selecting a quarterback with their top pick does not feel like the play here. - Times-Picayune
