  12/01/19 - Tyler HuntleySr/2020, Utah, 6-1, 196 (DS#20 QB) + More +

After Utah's lone stumble this season - a 30-23 loss at Southern California in September - quarterback Tyler Huntley called a players-only meeting. Huntley is known for his short answers with media and he didn't need to long to get his message across that day. He told his teammates they were a team of destiny and that loss wouldn't define the season. "I told them we needed to focus and we would knock over any obstacle in our way," Huntley said as he walked off the field after No. 6 Utah's Pac-12 South clinching 45-15 victory over Colorado on Saturday night. "I told them we had it in us to accomplish what we wanted. And now here we are. We here!"

The Utes (11-1, 8-1, No 6 CFP) needed a quarter to get rolling in 25-degree temperatures, but romped to their eighth straight victory as Brant Kuithe scored three touchdowns. Huntley was 14-for-17 for 165 yards and connected with Kuithe twice for scores. "It was a little cold outside," Huntley said of the Utes punting on their first three possessions. "We started out slow, but we handled business." Huntley admitted the emotions of senior night got to their team's 19 seniors, including the three from Hallandale High School in Florida -- Huntley, Zack Moss and Demari Simpkins, who all played integral roles in the victory and the team's best season since joining the Pac-12. - Utah/AP College Football

The Utes (10-1, 7-1 Pac-12, No. 7 CFP) have won seven straight games and are the lone Pac-12 team in serious contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff after No. 6 Oregon lost to Arizona State 31-28 earlier on Saturday. Utah's defense was dominant once again, holding an opponent to seven points or fewer for the fifth time in six games. Arizona managed just 196 total yards and a big chunk of those came in the fourth quarter when mostly backups were playing.

Tyler Huntley completed 19 of 23 passes for 211 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The 5-foot-10, 222-pound Moss barreled through the Arizona defense all night, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. Tight end Brant Kuithe ran for two touchdowns on two carries.   11/03/19 - Tyler HuntleySr/2020, Utah, 6-1, 196 (DS#20 QB) + More +

With all the other big-name quarterbacks in the Pac-12, it's been easy -- albeit unfair -- for Utah's Tyler Huntley to be overlooked. That should end after his latest performance. Huntley continued to make his case as the offensive player of the year in the Pac-12, leading the Utes from behind in their 33-28 win over Washington on Saturday. The victory helped Utah jump one spot in The AP Top 25 to No. 8, its highest ranking since reaching No. 3 in the middle of the 2015 season. And considering the circumstances, it may be remembered as one of the best games in Huntley's career. "He's one of the elite quarterbacks in the country and I stand by that," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "And when our guys are making great catches and plays for him, it all looks great. And on top of that, he's still not even 100 percent. He's a great quarterback for us."

Maybe because he missed the final five games of last season due to injury, Huntley was lumped in the second tier among Pac-12 quarterbacks before the season began. Oregon's Justin Herbert was at the top, with Washington's Jacob Eason, Stanford's K.J. Costello, USC's J.T Daniels and Arizona's Khalil Tate following in some order. Huntley wasn't an afterthought, but he wasn't the first QB on anyone's mind. And he carried a ton of pressure entering the year, with most believing Huntley needed to improve for Utah to reach its potential. It's clear he has exceeded those expectations, doing so while playing through a knee injury that has limited his mobility. Huntley posted a 192.3 passer rating against Washington, completing 19 of 24 passes for 284 yards, and his third time this season topping a rating of 190. - AP College Football

  11/03/19 - Jaylon JohnsonJr/2020, Utah, 6-0, 193 (DS#6 CB) + More +

The past month looked, and felt, so easy for No. 9 Utah. One blowout after another. No tests for the Utes to answer. They knew traveling to Washington would be different, and they were right. The Utes were challenged; falling behind early and rallying late, and in doing so solidified their spot in the College Football Playoff conversation. Tyler Huntley threw for one touchdown and ran for another, Jaylon Johnson returned an interception 39 yards for a score, and No. 9 Utah overcame an 11-point first-half deficit to beat Washington 33-28. The Utes did their part in keeping pace in the Pac-12 South race and bolstered their CFP resume with a road win over a talented opponent in a place where it's never come easy for Utah. - AP College Football

  11/02/19 - Tyler HuntleySr/2020, Utah, 6-1, 196 (DS#20 QB) + More +

Tyler Huntley threw for one touchdown and ran for another, Jaylon Johnson returned an interception 39 yards for a score, and No. 9 Utah overcame an 11-point first-half deficit to beat Washington 33-28 Saturday. The Utes (8-1, 5-1 Pac-12) kept alive their College Football Playoff hopes thanks to a defense that forced Washington quarterback Jacob Eason into three turnovers and got just enough offense from Huntley to rally from an early 14-3 hole. "It says a lot. We've had a lot of games, the last three games or whatever it's been by putting up 40 points and our defense looking impeccable," Utah running back Zack Moss said. "When we can do this and come on the road and win a game like this and doing it the way we did, that's what championship teams do and that's what we've been missing the last couple of years."

Huntley hit Moss on a 9-yard TD late in the first half and added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to give Utah its first lead, 26-21. Huntley's TD run capped a drive that featured a key third-and-12 conversion where Huntley was able to hit Jaylen Dixon for a 41-yard completion. Huntley finished 19 of 24 for 284 yards. He was sacked four times -- Utah had allowed just seven all season -- but all came in the first half and the Utes were able to protect Huntley much better as the game progressed. Huntley also had a pair of key third-down conversions on Utah's final scoring drive, hitting Solomon Enis for 14 yards and Samson Nacua for 28 yards. Moss capped the 84-yard drive with a 2-yard TD run with 4:52 left. Moss finished with 100 yards on 27 carries. - Utah/AP College Football

  10/30/19 - Zack MossSr/2020, Utah, 5-09, 223 (DS#7 RB) + More +

Earlier this season, Zach Moss surpassed Eddie Johnson (1984-88) for most rushing yards in school history. In Saturday's 35-0 shutout of California, the senior broke the Utah school record for career rushing touchdowns, passing Del Rogers (1978-81). He now has 33. It was his 15th 100-yard rushing game, passing both John White (2011-12) and Devontae Booker (2014-15) for the school record. "He's a special back and he's got the whole package," said coach Kyle Whittingham. "I mean he's got a great skill set and we're fortunate to have him, fortunate he came back for his senior year." Moss has rushed for a league-leading 10 touchdowns this season and averages 104 yards rushing a game to rank second in the league. Cal coach Justin Wilcox praised Moss, saying: "He's a physical, physical guy. He runs angry." - AP College Football
