He has rushed for 32 career touchdowns, including a personal-best 13 this season.

Williams' 7-yard score gave the Rebels a 17-10 lead early in the second half. Bronson Yoder capped William & Mary's first possession with a 47-yard TD run for a 7-0 lead. Towson answered on its first possession, knotting the score on Chris Ferguson's 42-yard scoring strike to Caleb Smith. Lester's first TD run was a 21-yarder with 5:53 left in the first quarter for a 21-7 advantage.

William & Mary's Ethan Chang sandwiched two field goals around a 1-yard TD run by Towson's Devin Matthews in the second quarter and the Tribe led 27-14 at halftime.   09/07/21 - Jalen CatalonrSr/2025, UNLV + More +

Safety Jalen Catalon had 83 return yards on his two interceptions against Rice, the most for a Razorback in a game since Rohan Gaines brought back a pick 100 yards for a touchdown in a 30-0 win over Ole Miss on Nov. 22, 2014. Arkansas has 16 interceptions in 11 games with Barry Odom serving as defensive coordinator, the fourth most in the FBS in that span. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Arkansas cornerbacks coach Sam Carter often tells LaDarrius Bishop he is the fastest player on any field. That speed and athleticism is likely to be front and center Saturday in the Razorbacks' season opener against Rice. Bishop, a former 4-star recruit, is listed as a starter at cornerback opposite veteran Montaric Brown, his cousin and former Ashdown High School teammate. Arkansas' Week 1 depth chart is not yet finalized. Second-year coach Sam Pittman said Monday that it will be nailed down following Wednesday's practice. But Bishop being listed with the first-team defense to begin the week indicates he won a training camp position battle with Hudson Clark, the former walk-on who took college football by storm after a three-interception game against Ole Miss last season.

"He's fast, he's long, he's the perfect size and speed for a corner," Pittman said of Bishop. "I don't know how he beat him out, he just played well. What we did, to be honest with you, we quit moving him to left corner, right corner. We moved him all the time trying to find that place for him. "We kept him at one spot over there on one side and it seemed to help him." Bishop, a redshirt junior, played in all 10 games last season and made his fourth career start in Arkansas' season finale against Alabama. Pittman and the Razorbacks' staff were impressed with his play. - Northwest Arkansas Times

The star of Michigan State football's biggest win last season is not currently with the team. Coach Mel Tucker on Tuesday said redshirt freshman Ricky White and freshman defensive back Michael Gravely "are not participating in team activities at this point." Tucker did not elaborate on why. While both players remain on the roster, neither was on the field at Monday night's "Meet the Spartans" event and have not been spotted during open portions of preseason camp or during the April 24 open spring practice. White, a 6-foot-1 and 185-pound wide receiver, played 166 snaps in four games with three starts last season, finishing with 10 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown. Eight of his catches went for a first down or a TD. - Lansing State Journal

  08/26/21 - Jalen CatalonrSr/2025, UNLV + More +

University of Arkansas redshirt sophomore safety Jalen Catalon was on the second-team defense for The Associated Press All-American preseason teams announced Monday. Catalon had 99 tackles and three interceptions last season when he was a first-team choice on the AP's All-SEC team. He is the only Razorback on AP's two preseason teams. "Honestly, it's a blessing and I'm glad they picked me to be on it," Catalon said after Monday's practice while crediting his teammates and coaches. "But I'm not really going to pay too much mind to it. Just going to keep my eyes focused on the goal, and that's winning games and doing anything I can to make the team better."

Catalon is one of 18 SEC players on the preseason teams from among nine SEC teams. "I think every conference has good football players," Catalon said. "It doesn't matter where you go. "But just from me, I might just be biased from playing in it, but as far as the SEC goes, every week you're going to play somebody that's a top guy when it comes to being drafted. You're always going to have consistent players, ones that are going to be top guys. That definitely shows based on that list itself." - Northwest Arkansas Times

The Camels opted to play an abbreviated four-game schedule in the fall of 2020, and all four contests were against FBS competition. Campbell faced off against Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State and Wake Forest in a 21-day span, an experience Minter called a "whirlwind." While Campbell lost all four games, Minter was ecstatic to get his players the experience of playing FBS competition. The Camels had never stepped onto the same field as a Power Five opponent, which they did against the Demon Deacons, and the regional Group of Five opponents allowed Minter to help accelerate the growth of a team still in the infant stages of being a scholarship program.

Quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams took a step forward with 662 passing yards, 216 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns (three passing, four rushing). He did all of that without the services of wide receiver Caleb Snead (Heritage High), who did not play in 2020. Williams did have the No. 2 play on SportsCenter's Top 10 the night of the game against Wake Forest when the Camels completed a double pass that led to Williams scoring an easy touchdown. It was one of the several gadget plays Campbell uses with Williams to get him in the open space. - Lynchburg News and Advance

The demands of being a football player at UNLV and a young father collided on Tuesday for senior running back Charles Williams. It meant he couldn't accompany his four-month-old daughter, Kamiyah, to her doctor's appointment. She was due for a round of booster shots and Williams didn't want to miss out on the milestone. So when he finally had his first break of the day, he FaceTimed his girlfriend, Mika, with the hope of comforting his baby girl: "Hey, you're going to be OK. … These shots are going to go well," he told her. "That was something to me like 'Yeah, this dude gets it,'" said David Wedley, who works with the football team as a director of student-athlete academic services. "He understands. He's mature. It's the final stamp of approval for this young man and what everybody thinks of him."

Williams is back at UNLV for his sixth and final season as one of the most productive players in school history. He's the program's first academic All-American. He'll juggle graduate courses this fall with his family and football as he approaches the school's career rushing record. Duties befit for one of the program's leaders "He's mature. He's got a good voice in the locker room...Those are culture things that are going to resonate," said Rebels coach Marcus Arroyo. "I'm excited to see him healthy in our system." - Las Vegas Review Journal

  08/08/21 - Tate MartellrSr/2023, UNLV + More +

Tate Martell did not suit up on the first day of UNLV training camp, but it's only a matter of time before the high-profile transfer jumps into the team's quarterback battle. UNLV opened camp on Wednesday with a two-hour practice session, and the addition of Martell has instilled some hope around the program, even coming off an 0-6 campaign in 2020. The team kept him out of sight during the portion of Wednesday's practice that was open to the media, but he later joined the team on the field as a nonparticipant.

Head coach Marcus Arroyo said Martell, who has enrolled as a walk-on, has not yet been cleared to practice. "We had a conversation over summer a few times, and over the time we got a chance to know each other," Arroyo said. "About our backgrounds and what we were both looking for, what our culture stands for, trying to get a feel for where he's at, what he's looking for, if there was a fit." Arroyo said there is no timeline for when Martell will be cleared to play, but when it happens the fifth-year transfer should immediately enter the team's quarterback battle as a heavy favorite to win the job. Junior Justin Rogers and sophomore Doug Brumfield are currently listed as co-No. 1 QBs, with freshman Cameron Friel also competing for snaps. Martell, a former state champion and Gatorade National Player of the Year at Bishop Gorman, committed to UNLV two weeks ago after spending his first three years at Ohio State and Miami. - Las Vegas Sun
