Pratt found Jha'Quan Jackson for a 21-yard touchdown pass early in third for a nine-point lead, which triggered the beginning of the end for Army. On their final five drives of the game, Army threw an interception, turned the balled over on downs on two straight drives, coughed it up on a fumble that led to to a scoring play for Tulane then threw an interception.   NOV 2 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Louisiana Tech redshirt freshman K/P Jacob Barnes made the game-winning 35-yard field goal in double-overtime in the 37-34 LA Tech comeback victory over UAB. He made three of four field goal attempts in the game, including one in each overtime period to secure the win. He also punted the ball six times for an average of 42.5 yards against UAB, including a career-long 53 yard punt, and placed three punts inside the UAB 20. This is the second Special Teams Player of the Week award for Barnes this season.   Among the Colorado safeties, Derrion Rakestraw is known as the "old man." Rakestraw has earned that badge not only because he's the lone senior among the group. He's also the guy that many of the others lean on. "He's the guy that gets them lined up, he's the guy that communicates with them," CU defensive coordinator Tyson Summers said. "He's been an example to them and done a great job with his leadership. "He's one of my favorite guys, and obviously having been his position coach last year he's special to me. He's special to me for a lot of different reasons, but he's playing at a high level, communicating well and I'm really proud of everything he's done to this point in time."

CU opens the season Nov. 7 against UCLA and Rakestraw is one of the keys to their success because of his leadership in the back of the defense. Rakestraw has played in 36 games (11 starts) and is one of only eight seniors on the roster. He's one of only three remaining from the 2016 Pac-12 South championship team (along with linebacker Akil Jones and quarterback Sam Noyer). With all that experience, Rakestraw has a new level of confidence. "I'm pretty confident going into this season, just because the experience I got last year really helped me be able to play a lot faster," he said. "Really with the whole defense we're trying to pick up where we left off last season, so I'm confident with the calls we got; I'm confident with our coaches and everybody out on the field with me." - Daily Camera

The Tulane secondary has to be better. After cornerback Jaylon Monroe was burned repeatedly on jump balls, the defense began breaking down on third-and-long in the second half and was completely fooled by a pass off a reverse. Those mistakes should not happen for a defense with experienced starters almost across the board. The Wave made some big plays on that side of the ball, but the telling stat was SMU answering all four Tulane touchdown drives with touchdown drives of its own. It is hard to beat a good team when you cannot string good plays together. - New Orleans Times Picayune

Just as Devin Leary was starting to heat up, the N.C. State quarterback might be out for a length of time. Leary took a hit from Duke's Lummie Young IV in the third quarter and it didn't look good for the redshirt sophomore. As Leary went to slide, Young hit Leary near the head. Leary tried to get up, but fell to the group. Young's hit caused Leary's foot to bend in an awkward direction. The N.C. State medical staff immediately put a cast on Leary's left foot and he was carted off the field. Young was ejected for the hit. - Raleigh News Observer

Shedro Louis' eyes grew as wide as the running lane that opened right in front of him. He easily followed the blocks established by Thomas Sargeant and Brendan Schlittler, and the only thing Louis had to do was make a decisive cut and accelerate with only green turf ahead of him. The speedy Liberty sophomore easily scored on a lengthy touchdown run midway through the first quarter, zapping any momentum Syracuse had seized mere seconds earlier. That run play embodied the Flames' offensive mentality and showcased their ability to dominate the line of scrimmage at will against the depleted Orange defense.

Liberty rushed for a whopping 338 yards, led by Louis' career-high 170 yards, and the Flames recorded their first victory over an Atlantic Coast Conference program with a dominating 38-21 triumph Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York. "It was big. We showed them that we could run it," Louis said of his 75-yard touchdown run that was the precursor to the Flames' offensive success. "The line blocked great, everybody executed their part and we busted them back in the mouth." The Flames (5-0) lost their previous eight games against ACC opponents, and Louis made sure early Liberty was going to remain competitive against the Orange (1-4, 1-3 ACC). Louis entered Saturday's game with 140 rushing yards on 23 carries. He easily shattered his previous career bests by totaling his 170 yards on only 10 carries thanks to his touchdown runs of 75 and 52 yards. - Lynchburg News and Advance

Tulane coach Willie Fritz confirmed Thursday what everyone feared when Tyjae Spears went down early in the second quarter against Southern Miss - his star running back will be out for the rest of the season. Fritz said Spears, a redshirt freshman from Ponchatoula, had surgery Thursday morning to repair a probable anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee. Off to a tremendous start in the Green Wave's first three games, he was hurt at the end of his second touchdown run against the Golden Eagles, appearing to take a wrong step after being hit as he crossed the goal line. That 15-yard score gave Spears 274 yards on 37 carries (7.4 average) in barely more than nine quarters, including back-to-back 100-yard games against South Alabama and Navy. An electric, big-play threat every time he touched the ball, he already was halfway to becoming the first player with three straight 100-yard games during Fritz's tenure when his year ended abruptly. "We're losing a great, great, great player for this season," Fritz said. "He brings so much to the team besides his level of play. He's an example about how to practice and about how to prepare for a game. He does as good a job of that as anybody I've ever coached, and I've been doing this a long time. Guys are going to have to pick up the slack obviously." - New Orleans Times Picayune

Michael Pratt is a gamer, which is the exact word Tulane coach Willie Fritz used when asked about his freshman quarterback after the game. Replacing struggling quarterback Keon Howard, Pratt entered for the third series and won the starting job with a performance that belied his 8-of-18 passing numbers. Tulane is talented enough to have a big season with capable quarterback play, and Howard was not getting the job done through two games and two series. This rout was about much more than Pratt, but the whole vibe around the team feels different with a playmaker behind center. His perfect strike on a deep pass to wide receiver Jha'Quan Jackson might be the turning point of the season. - New Orleans Times Picayune
