Indiana quarterback Dexter Williams II was carted off the field and taken to a hospital on Saturday after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury to his right leg during the Hoosiers' game against Purdue. Williams was hurt with 46 seconds left in the first quarter when he tried to plant and throw. He immediately fell to the ground with nobody around him. Teammates gathered and some Purdue players took a knee as trainers placed an air cast around Williams' leg and strapped him onto a stretcher. Some of Williams' relatives also were on the field. Williams, a redshirt sophomore from Macon, Georgia, was making his second straight start. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during spring practice. - AP College Football

Jacob Dingel and Bryon Threats intercepted passes, Noah Potter and Dontay Corleone recovered fumbles and No. 22 Cincinnati beat Temple 23-3 on Saturday to move closer to the American Athletic Conference championship game. Cincinnati (9-2, 6-1) can guarantee a berth in its fourth straight conference title game and earn home-field advantage in the Dec. 3 contest with a win in its regular-season finale Friday against Tulane, with whom it is presently tied atop the standings.

The Bearcats could also gain entry into the title game depending on how Central Florida - which was upset by Navy on Saturday - fares against South Florida. This is the final year in the AAC for Cincinnati, with the Bearcats moving to the Big 12. A week after quarterback E.J. Warner - the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner - set a school record for passing yards with 486 yards and had three TD passes for Temple (3-8, 1-6) in a 43-36 loss at Houston, Cincinnati got the four turnovers and held the rushing attack to 35 yards. - Cincinnati/AP College Football

Aveon Smith threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Mac Hippenhammer and added two TD runs about 4 minutes apart that gave Miami (Ohio) the lead for good just before halftime as the Redhawks beat Northern Illinois 29-23 in the snow Wednesday night. Smith completed 11 of 23 passes for 180 yards and ran for 105 yards on 20 carries for Miami (5-6, 3-4 Mid-American Conference). John Richardson kicked a 31-yard field goal and Nevan Cremascoli threw a 15-yard TD pass to Liam Soraghan that gave Northern Illinois (3-8, 2-5) a 10-0 lead with 4:39 left in the first quarter.

The Redhawks ensuing drive stalled at midfield and Dom Dzioban's 47-yard punt pinned NIU at its own 3 and two plays later Harrison Waylee fumbled the ball and kicked it out of the end zone for a touchback that got Miami on the scoreboard less than 3 minutes later. Smith had four carries for 28 yards - including a 10-yard TD run - and went 1-for-1 passing for 13 yards on a six-play, 49-yard drive that made it 10-9 with 4:39 left in the second quarter and, after the Huskies went three-and-out, Tom Foley's punt was blocked and went just 17 yards, giving Miami the ball at its own 49 and six plays later Smitch scored on a 15-yard run to make it 16-10 at halftime. - Miami (Ohio)/AP College Football

Clemson will be without junior defensive back Malcolm Greene for the rest of the season due to a groin injury. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday Greene would need an operation and would not be available going forward. No. 9 Clemson (9-1, 7-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) closes league play Saturday at home against Miami (5-5, 3-3). Greene is a 5-foot-10, 195-pound defender from Richmond, Virginia. He played in seven games with two starts this season, making eight tackles with an interception in a win over Louisiana Tech in September. Greene is the latest hit to a banged-up defense. Clemson is without starting defensive end Xavier Thomas, who underwent an operation on an injured foot this week and won't return. Linebacker Trenton Simpson, the team's second-leading tackler, missed last week's win over Louisville and his status this week is up in the air. - AP College Football

Bronson Barron threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and Dontae McMillan ran for 139 yards and a touchdown and Weber State beat Idaho State 45-7 on Saturday.
