  08/19/21 - Dallas GantrSr/2024, Toledo, 6-3, 228 (DS#14 OLB) + More +

After a foot injury kept him out of spring practice, senior linebacker Dallas Gant has been back on the field for Ohio State in preseason training camp. Gant said he has been participating in team workouts since earlier this summer. But he added that he is still recovering from the setback and not quite at 100%. "I'm getting there," he said. "Slowly but surely. I'll be ready for the season, I promise you." As the Buckeyes replace an entire linebacker corps this offseason, Gant is among the leading candidates for a larger role. He spent the previous seasons as Tuf Borland's backup at middle linebacker.

His absence in the spring marked a difficult start to his offseason. He missed out on reps, though he found other ways to remain involved with the linebackers group. "I did my best to be there for the other guys," Gant said. "They kind of needed somebody that could help show them the way. We had a lot of young people playing, and springtime is really the time to develop those young players. "So I just tried to be there, watch film with them, try to go to office meetings and stuff like that, to kind of help them through that. It's frustrating not being able to play and get better, but I kind of just put that aside and said I'll be back soon." - Columbus Dispatch

  08/17/21 - Bryant KobackSr/2022, Toledo, 5-11, 209 (DS#19 RB) + More +

Bryant Koback has high hopes for his 2021 season. Rockets coach Jason Candle described the junior running back's previous three seasons as "a very good career" and him as a "tremendous player." Koback, a Springfield High School alum, was named to his third straight Doak Walker Award watch list, a recognition that is awarded to the top running back in college football. He wrapped up his 2020 season, a schedule that was abbreviated to six games within the Mid-American Conference, fourth in the league in yards (522 yards) and second amongst the Rockets in receptions (24). Last year's performance helped him earn preseason All-MAC second team selections from Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.

In the offseason, Koback spent time improving on all aspects of his game. "It was just working on getting to the second level, just being able to break free, continue to go down the field, and just continue to improve my overall game," Koback said. "No matter how good I may think I am at something, I still need to improve in many areas of my game. That's just my main focus, is to just come in here and try to get a little bit better at something every single day. Hopefully at the end of the year, everything falls into place." Throughout his Rockets career, Koback has rushed for 2,626 yards and 30 touchdowns. He ranks ninth in program history in rushing yards and is 374 from becoming the eighth player to rush for at least 3,000 in a career. - Toledo Blade

Harris was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, awarded to the top football scholar-athlete, last year. The three-time Academic All-MAC honoree graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology (3.5 GPA) in 2019.   07/19/21 - Bailey FlintrSr/2022, Toledo, 6-4, 216 (DS#22 P) + More +

Of all people, the most bankable football player at the University of Toledo isn't the hotshot quarterback, the star running back, or the go-to receiver. No, it's the punter. Bailey Flint may not play what is traditionally seen as a lead role, but don't tell that to his swooning crush of fans. Armed with degrees in theater and media communications, Flint, a senior now pursuing his master's in liberal studies, has cleverly leveraged his singing, acting, and social media chops - along with the terrible but relatable misfortune of having a shortage of shirts to cover his washboard abs - into the largest online following of any Toledo athlete and one of the biggest audiences in college football. Consider: He has 162,700 followers on TikTok, the video-sharing app popular with teens and young adults, which, for perspective, are more fans than the quarterbacks at Ohio State and Michigan have on their many social media platforms between them.

His reach is something else, and it has exploded at seemingly the perfect time. In the free-market new world of college sports, where as of this month students can sign endorsement deals and otherwise cash in on their name, image, and likeness (NIL), Flint is well-positioned to join the party. One consulting service guessed he could earn $30,000 this year. Others suggest he could make even more. There's just one small catch. He can't see a cent of it. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Flint is here on an F-1 student visa that prevents him from accepting outside income while in school. - Toledo Blade

  03/27/21 - Dallas GantrSr/2024, Toledo, 6-3, 228 (DS#14 OLB) + More +

Dallas Gant opened his Zoom conference with reporters Thursday by revealing he is not playing this spring due to what he called a "foot issue." He did not want to go into specifics about the injury's origin or nature. He did say he expects to be back to full participation this summer. "Obviously it's hard," Gant said of the injury. "Spring is a time to develop skill sets. I have to find a different way, focusing on things I can focus on." Gant is one-third of a group of senior linebackers blocked in recent seasons by the four seniors who completed their careers in 2020. Last season he backed up Tuf Borland at Mike linebacker and is the presumptive starter there for this fall. Gant collected 17 tackles, a pass breakup and a forced fumble in 2020. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  03/25/21 - Bryant KobackSr/2022, Toledo, 5-11, 209 (DS#19 RB) + More +

Thirteen of Toledo's 19 seniors from 2020 are returning for a final season, including all four senior captains (Anderson, Bailey Flint, Bryce Harris, and Samuel Womack) and junior captain Bryant Koback, who will complete his fourth year of college in May and could have moved on. "It never even crossed my mind," Koback said. "I knew I wanted to come back. I just want to play football for as long as it's guaranteed. It's something I love to do and something I want to continue to do. With everything going on, you look at last year and people that left in 2019, and there were question marks [about their future]." Twelve of the 13 are starters on offense, defense, or special teams. All 13 are on the two-deep depth chart. The Rockets return an unheard-of 22 starters - all 11 on offense and defense. Not to be outdone, the kicker, punter, long snapper, and kick and punt returners are also back. - Toledo Blade
