  2022 GREAT MIDWEST DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE YEAR: CHARLIE CLEVELAND, Defensive End, RS Junior, Tiffin University,...Winning the honor for the third straight time on the other side of the ball was Tiffin's feared pass rusher in Charlie Cleveland (East Chicago, IN /East Chicago Central HS) selected as Great Midwest Defensive Lineman of the Year. Cleveland routinely faces double teams from opposing offensive coordinators to try and slow down his 6-4, 250 lb. frame. The redshirt junior averaged 5.9 tackles per game and recorded five sacks on the year.   2022 GREAT MIDWEST SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: ANTHONY LOWE, Return Specialist, Junior, Tiffin University,...Anthony Lowe from Tiffin University was voted the Great Midwest Special Teams Player of the Year. Lowe leads the conference in both punt and kick returns. He totaled 315 yards in kick returns at 28.6 yards per game, shattering the league single-season record.   A move that has been viewed as a possibility became official Wednesday night when East Carolina football veteran running back Darius Pinnix announced he was entering the transfer portal. Pinnix started 13 total games from 2017-19 and started the first two of 2020, but it was the freshman duo of Rahjai Harris and Keaton Mitchell that took control of the Pirate rushing attack. Harris earned American Athletic Conference co-rookie of the year honors with four touchdowns and 624 rushing yards, followed by Mitchell's 443 ground yards. Pinnix had 120 in his junior season.   Division II's seven 2020 fall championships are canceled, the Division II Presidents Council decided Wednesday due to the operational, logistical and financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The council made the move after the NCAA Board of Governors directed each division to make a decision on its fall sport championships. The Board of Governors also directed each division to meet various requirements to compete in the fall. Those directives include that all member institutions apply the resocialization principles to fall sports and set a 50% sponsorship threshold for a fall sport championship to be conducted, among other requirements. As of Wednesday, 11 of the 23 Division II conferences had announced they will not compete during the traditional fall season. - NCAA.com
