Lamonte McDougle, who was expected to play a big role on the interior of Washington State's defensive line this season, has indicated he won't suit up for the Cougars in 2020. Tuesday, the redshirt junior nose tackle posted a highlight video from his Instagram account with a caption reading, "#2021. you only as gangster as your accomplishments as a man so when I say I'm going "gangster" that mean I'm working on some." McDougle also alluded to returning to the field next season in an Instagram comment, writing "I'll be back in 2021 to give you the summary." Reporters haven't been able to view the team's preseason practices due to health and safety protocols, but McDougle hadn't appeared in any of the photographs or video WSU's media relations department has sent over the past three weeks. The former West Virginia defensive lineman and ESPN Freshman All-American didn't indicate specifically if he's opted out of the fall season, or if his absence was injury-related. - Seattle Times

Meeting with UTSA running back Sincere McCormick less than 24 hours after his 37-carry game against Louisiana Tech, coach Jeff Traylor borrowed a line longtime coach Bum Phillips once said about Hall of Fame back Earl Campbell. "I think Earl carried it 40 times one game, and they asked Bum about it, and Bum's response was, 'The ball isn't that heavy, is it?'" Traylor said. "I gave him that analogy. He thought that was funny." The joke proved to be more fitting than Traylor anticipated, as McCormick on Tuesday was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week after running for 165 yards and three touchdowns Saturday in UTSA's 27-26 win. McCormick was also named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. "When it comes to awards, I'm just humble," McCormick said. "Hard work pays off, and it clearly shows. I'm grateful, and I'm going to keep working."

McCormick said his focus since Saturday has been taking a "pro mentality" toward recovery. Sunday included contrast bath therapy - three minutes of hot water, followed by one minute in an ice tub - a light workout and stretching. Feeling "kind of heavy" to start the season, McCormick said he worked to become one of UTSA's top performers in practice, drawing praise from Traylor for the metrics he posts on the Roadrunners' tracking data. McCormick said he entered Tuesday's practice feeling "fresh." - Express-News

OCT 26 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RB Sincere McCormick registered his second straight and fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season to help lead UTSA to a 27-26 come-from-behind win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday night at the Alamodome. The sophomore gashed the Bulldogs for 165 yards and three touchdowns - all in the second half - on a school-record 37 carries to help the Roadrunners rally from a pair of 13-point deficits after halftime and snap a six-game losing streak to LA Tech. McCormick had 2- and 6-yard TD runs that each cut the LA Tech lead to six points and he then ripped off a 45-yard scoring dash with 6:16 left to play that helped give UTSA the lead for good. The Converse Judson High School product continues to lead the FBS in rushing yards with 867 and he paces the league in rushing yards per game with 123.9. - Conference USA Football

OCT 26 CONFERENCE USA CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Roadrunners senior S Antonio Parks posted six tackles and had a hand in a pair of second-half turnovers to help lead UTSA to a 27-26 come-from-behind victory over Louisiana Tech. The senior safety forced a fumble late in the third quarter that was recovered near midfield by Christian Clayton and he helped ice the victory with an interception with under a minute left to play. Parks and the Roadrunners held the LA Tech offense to 247 yards, including only 35 after halftime. The two takeaways that Parks was a part of give UTSA 13 on the season, which leads C-USA and ranks third nationally. - Conference USA Football

McCormick, who entered with a nation-leading 702 yards rushing, finished with 165 yards on 37 carries. UTSA (4-3, 2-1 Conference USA) broke a six-game losing streak against Louisiana Tech (3-3, 2-2). Hunter Duplessis made field goals from 21 and 37 yards for UTSA in the first half to extend his nation-leading active streak of consecutive field goals made to 23, but he had a 43-yard attempt blocked early in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 19-6, McCormick bulled into the end zone from the 2 capping a 15-play drive, 75-yard drive to open the third quarter. Louisiana Tech answered with Ezekiel Barnett's 60-yard interception return for a touchdown and the Bulldogs led 26-13. McCormick had a 6-yard touchdown run and broke loose on a 45-yard scoring run with 6:16 remaining. On Louisiana Tech's final drive, Aaron Allen led the Bulldogs to the 43, but he threw an interception to Antonio Parks with 1:47 left.   All the praise University of Arkansas running back Trelon Smith received from coaches and teammates last season when he redshirted and in preseason practice this year wasn't just talk. Smith is the real deal as he showed Saturday when the Razorbacks pushed No. 13 Auburn to the limit before the Tigers won 30-28 on a last-second field goal by Anders Carlson. "Me personally, I feel like I stepped up to the plate," said Smith, who filled in for injured starter Rakeem Boyd, who didn't travel to Auburn. "I felt like I did what I was supposed to do in the run game, pass-blocking game and also the passing game."

Smith, a sophomore who redshirted last season after transferring from Arizona State, got his first start with the Razorbacks and led them with 21 carries for 81 yards and had 6 receptions for 78 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown catch from Feleipe Franks. "I feel like I did a good job across the whole board and moving forward toward the next game," Smith said. "I just plan on just staying neutral, steady working and just getting the job done when my number is called." Razorbacks Coach Sam Pittman said he wasn't surprised by Smith's performance. "He practices that way," Pittman said on his postgame radio show. "We knew he'd have a good game. Just practices his tail off." - Northwest Arkansas Times

Tyrion Davis-Price started instead against Vanderbilt, and John Emery became the feature back once he started to have the most success. Emery finished the game with 12 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound sophomore's first 100-yard performance of his career, paired with three catches for 21 yards, showcased the talent LSU expected when they signed him as a five-star out of Destrehan High. "That's the John Emery we recruited," Orgeron said. "It took a little while for him to come. And, just like any other freshman, everybody grows at their own pace. John's a tremendous young man. He's a confident young man right now." - Baton Rouge Advocate

The five-star tailback sophomore tailback was a non-factor his freshman season, lapped by Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Tyrion Davis-Price and Chris Curry. But with Curry sidelined, Emery came off the bench and ran impressively, breaking tackles and stutter-stepping his way through a solid Vandy defense for 103 yards and a touchdown. Was it a breakout game for Emery? Certainly a breakthrough. - Baton Rouge Advocate

When the Kansas football defense took the field versus Oklahoma State on Saturday, it had to do so without two starting defensive backs, a starting linebacker and a key reserve linebacker. Senior cornerback Kyle Mayberry, senior safety Ricky Thomas and sophomore linebacker Gavin Potter were among the 11 players on the roster who didn't dress for the homecoming game. Linebacker Dru Prox dressed, but didn't play. "They took a day off today," KU head coach Les Miles joked during his postgame video press conference. "I'm not allowed to tell you exactly, but it certainly had to do with medical something." - Lawrence Journal World

UTSA kicker Hunter Duplessis has converted his past 16 field goal attempts, marking the longest active streak in the FBS. His last miss was Sept. 21, 2019. Duplessis has connected on 7 of 7 tries this season with a long of 42 after hitting his final nine kicks last year with a long of 43. A redshirt junior who played at Cole, Duplessis is a member of the Roadrunners' leadership council. "He's great in the weight room. He's great in the locker room. He's just a really good person," Traylor said. "I can't say enough great things about Hunter Duplessis." - Express-News

UTSA quarterback Frank Harris will be a game-time decision for Saturday's matchup against UAB due to a knee sprain, coach Jeff Traylor said Monday. Harris left Friday's home win against Middle Tennessee during the second quarter and did not return. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday morning, and Traylor called the outcome the "best news possible." Through three games, Harris has passed for 508 yards and three touchdowns with one interception and a 66.2 percent completion rate. He has also rushed for 162 yards and five TDs. Josh Adkins, a Smithson Valley graduate and transfer from New Mexico State, replaced Harris against Middle Tennessee and completed 16 of 28 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown as UTSA won 37-35 at the Alamodome. Harris, a junior, appeared to jam his right knee into the turf when he was tackled at the end of a 20-yard run during the final minute of the first half. He played two more snaps but then began waving to the sideline as he jogged back toward the huddle, eventually falling to the turf. - Express-News

Texas A&M defensive back Clifford Chattman has opted out of the 2020 season, said head coach Jimbo Fisher. The senior out of New Orleans for the season opener against Vanderbilt was listed behind nickel back Devin Morris, but Chattman was not present on the sideline for Saturday's game. Chattman is the sixth Aggie to opt out this season, following wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon, linebacker Anthony Hines III, cornerback Elijah Blades, defensive back Derrick Tucker and quarterback James Foster. Chattman had 35 tackles and one interception in an injury-riddled career that spans back to 2016. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

SEPT 28 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTSA freshman LB Jamal Ligon broke UTSA's single-game tackles record with 19 stops in the 37-35 win over Middle Tennessee in the Conference USA opener for both teams last Friday night at the Alamodome. The true freshman from Tyler, Texas, registered eight solo stops and 1.5 sacks as part of his record-setting tackles total to go along with a pair of quarterback hurries, as UTSA improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2017. Making his second straight start at linebacker, Ligon's 19 tackles eclipsed the previous program standard of 16 set in 2011 by Cody Rogers and it marks the most tackles made by an FBS player in a game this season. Ligon was also named Athlon Sports' National Defensive Freshman of the Week, as the publication announced on Sunday. - Conference USA Football

Backup Josh Adkins threw for 233 yards and a touchdown, Sincere McCormick rushed for 82 yards and two scores, and UTSA held off Middle Tennessee 37-35 on Friday night in a Conference USA opener for both teams. UTSA's starting quarterback Frank Harris hobbled off the field with 28 seconds left in the first half and did not return. Adkins, a New Mexico State grad transfer, completed his first two passes before Hunter Duplessis gave UTSA a 17-10 halftime lead with a short field goal.

Duplessis made his 16th straight field goal with 11:39 remaining for a 37-29 lead, but UTSA punted on its next two possessions. Middle Tennessee put together a 13-play, 72-yard scoring drive, ending with 1:04 remaining, but its two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful in front of a sparse crowd at the Alamodome. Zakhari Franklin had 119 receiving yards and a score, and freshman Jamal Ligon set a program record with 19 tackles for UTSA (3-0). Jeff Traylor became the first coach in program history to begin his career with three straight wins. Asher O'Hara threw for 372 yards and three touchdowns, but he also had two first-half interceptions for Middle Tennessee (0-3). Chaton Mobley added two rushing TDs. - AP College Football

UTSA is off to its best start since 2017, and a lot of that has to do with quarterback Frank Harris. Through two games, Harris has accounted for 593 yards and seven total touchdowns. While he has been efficient passing the ball (68.7% completion percentage, 448 yards, two touchdowns), Harris has done a majority of his damage on the ground. He's second on the team in rushing with 155 yards and has scored a team-high five rushing touchdowns. - Daily News Journal
