UTSA's Frank Harris has earned a spot on the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced on Tuesday. Harris is one of 30 FBS signal-callers - one of two from Conference USA - to land on the list of the nation's top returning college quarterbacks. Compiled by a subset of the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee, this year's list was selected based on career player performance and expectations heading into the 2021 college football season. All nominees are required to have previously started at least one game at an NCAA Division I institution. A product of Schertz Clemens High School, Harris has played in 15 games and started 14 contests over the past two seasons for the Roadrunners, completing 225 of 341 passes for 2,116 yards and 15 touchdowns. He currently owns UTSA's career record for completion percentage (.660) and he ranks third all-time in passing yards, passing touchdowns and passing efficiency (127.9). - Texas-San Antonio Football

  07/23/21 - Lucas Dean, rSr/2024, Texas-San Antonio, 6-2, 205 (DS#19 P) + More +

UTSA punter Lucas Dean has been named Conference USA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year and running back Sincere McCormick has been chosen as C-USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in a vote by the league's head coaches. The reigning C-USA Special Teams Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference honoree, Dean earned second-team All-America accolades from the Sporting News and he was Phil Steele's fourth-team All-America punter after a record-setting campaign in 2020. The Australian shattered the program's single-season punting average record with a 46.0 mark, which led the league and ranked sixth nationally. A first-team Dave Campbell's Texas Football All-Texas College selection, he registered 27 punts that pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line, including 15 inside the 10 and seven inside the 5 during his sophomore season. - Texas-San Antonio Football

UTSA running back Sincere McCormick has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list and safety Rashad Wisdom has landed on the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday. McCormick is one of 80 FBS players and one of four from Conference USA on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert "Tiny" Maxwell, who was a former standout at the Swarthmore College and a renowned sports writer and football official. Wisdom is one of 90 FBS players, including one of six from C-USA, on the watch list for the Bednarik Award, which has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995 and is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a former standout at the University of Pennsylvania and with the Philadelphia Eagles. - Texas-San Antonio Football

UTSA running back Sincere McCormick has collected his second preseason All-America nod, as the Converse Judson High School product has been named to Phil Steele's second team, the publication announced this week. McCormick joins Mohamed Ibrahim of Minnesota in the second-team backfield, as running backs Breece Hall of Iowa State and Bijan Robinson of Texas were picked to the first team. Third-team honorees at the position are Isaiah Spiller of Texas A&M and Kyren Williams of Notre Dame, with Auburn's Tank Bigsby and Iowa's Tyler Goodson chosen for the fourth squad.

Last week, McCormick was named a Walter Camp Preseason Second-Team All-American. He also was named Best Running Back and first-team All-Texas College by Dave Campbell's Texas Football earlier this month, as well as a preseason first-team all-conference selection by Athlon Sports in May. McCormick enjoyed a record-setting sophomore season in 2020, breaking UTSA's single-season marks for rushing yards (1,467), touchdowns (11), carries (249), rushing yards per game (133.4) and all-purpose yards (1,598) en route to being named second-team All-American by both Phil Steele and the Football Writers Association of America. - Texas-San Antonio Football

UTSA junior running back Sincere McCormick has been named preseason second-team All-America by Walter Camp, it was announced on Thursday afternoon. McCormick, a product of Converse Judson High School, was named to the second team. He joins Texas tailback Bijan Robinson on the second team, with Iowa State's Breece Hall and Minnesota's Mohamed Ibrahim named to the first team. A second-team All-America selection by the Football Writers Association of America and Phil Steele in 2020, McCormick ranked second in FBS with a program-record 1,467 rushing yards. The 2020 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year totaled 11 touchdowns on 249 carries, both school records, while averaging 133.4 rushing yards per game to rank sixth nationally. - Texas-San Antonio Football

Led by a first-team All-Conference USA selection in Wisdom, UTSA's secondary welcomes back returning starters at every position. A starter through his first two seasons in the program, Wisdom was a consistent presence around the ball last year, leading UTSA with 95 tackles and four interceptions while forcing a pair of fumbles. Only targeting penalties earned in back-to-back weeks moved him out of the starting group. Though he was a limited participant through stretches of spring practice due to injury, Wisdom said one of his offseason focuses has been cleaning up his tackling form, avoiding leading with his head to prevent future infractions. - Express-News

Defensive line has been regarded as one of UTSA's strongest position groups through recent seasons, and the Roadrunners project to field another formidable unit in 2021. Haynes should be the anchor in the middle of the Roadrunners' three-man front, likely stepping into a starting role for a third straight season as he takes advantage of an additional year of eligibility. After flashing signs of dominance with five tackles for loss during UTSA's first two games, he suffered an undisclosed injury that kept him out of three contests and limited him in others. He finished the season with four sacks, ranking second on the team, and six tackles for loss - less than half of the 12.5 tackles for loss he racked up as a junior in 2019. - Express-News

McCormick likely will continue to be the focal point of UTSA's offense after rushing for 1,467 yards with 11 touchdowns and raking in an array of accolades last season. The Judson grad was a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizing the top offensive player with Texas ties, a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award for the nation's top running back, a Football Writers Association of America second team All-American, the Dave Campbell's Texas Football College Player of the Year and the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year.

His rushing total ranked second nationally, and he finished sixth in the FBS with 133.4 rushing yards per game. McCormick said he felt "like a fat guy" at the start of last season, entering the year around 215 pounds. His primary focuses through the spring were slimming down and working to become a more elite sprinter with eyes toward an NFL future. Durability has been a strength for McCormick through two seasons as the only game he missed was to be present for the birth of his daughter, Legacy, last November. But McCormick averaged 22.6 carries per game in 2020, including a high of 37 against Louisiana Tech, and his ability to hold up through a heavy workload is worth monitoring. - Express-News

The quarterback position has been a revolving door for the Roadrunners in recent years, and it remains under scrutiny after Harris and Adkins split first-team snaps during UTSA's spring game. Harris, the faster and more athletic option behind center, will likely have the inside track to the starting job as the more experienced option and one of the Roadrunners' emotional leaders. But Adkins is expected to push Harris through fall camp, potentially offering a more accurate passing option.

Injuries have been the story of Harris' career. The former Clemens star missed 2017 and 2018 because of ACL tears, sat out the final eight games of 2019 due to a shoulder injury and pushed through nagging knee problems last year. He was productive in his opportunities, throwing for 1,630 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions while running for 528 yards and nine scores, but questions of whether he was UTSA's best option lingered. - Express-News

TCU football won the sweepstakes for Texas A&M transfer Shadrach Banks this weekend. Banks announced Saturday that he'd be joining TCU. Banks is joining the program with intentions of transitioning from wide receiver to linebacker, a source confirmed. Banks, a four-star prospect in the 2021 class out of Houston North Shore, entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal after less than a semester on A&M's campus. Banks worked with the wide receivers in his short time with the Aggies, but will play linebacker for the Frogs. TCU saw its top linebacker and leading tackler Garret Wallow depart this offseason. Wallow was drafted by the Houston Texans a couple weeks ago. - Fort Worth Star

UTSA is set to add a pair of receivers via transfer, as Texas' Kennedy Lewis and Houston's Tre'Von Bradley announced this week their intent to join the Roadrunners' program. Lewis, a former three-star prospect from Melissa, made one catch for 37 yards as a freshman with the Longhorns in 2019 before sitting out last season. Bradley played the past three years at Houston following a redshirt in 2017. The former three-star prospect from Celburne hauled in 18 catches for 228 yards in six games last year after amassing 16 catches for 326 yards and a touchdown through 12 games in 2019. Bradley announced his intent to transfer with a Twitter post Wednesday, while Lewis shared his decision via Twitter on Thursday. - Express-News

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Kennedy Lewis has announced his decision to transfer to the UTSA after two seasons with Texas. Lewis, a former three-star prospect from Melissa, TX, appeared in just two games for the Longhorns after opting out of last season due to COVID-19. Jeff Howe reported that Lewis was "no longer with the team" last month after not being listed on the Texas football roster for the spring game. Lewis was suspended "not only from the school but from the university" in March of 2020 according to 247's Chip Brown but sources told Brown that the wideout was expected to return to Texas for summer school. - Burnt Orange Nation

Former KU linebacker Dru Prox, who left the program earlier this offseason and entered the transfer portal at the end of March, has found a new college football home. A starting inside linebacker for the Jayhawks in 2020, Prox will transfer to Texas-San Antonio to complete his career. This past fall, Prox opted out of the season after just four games. Though he missed one game, in the three that he played and started, Prox contributed 23 total tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, as well as one sack, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. At UTSA, Prox will reunite with another former KU starting linebacker, Denzel Feaster, who chose the Roadrunners earlier this offseason. - Lawrence Journal World

One of the Kansas football team's top defensive players early in the 2020 season, linebacker Dru Prox is looking to continue his career elsewhere. Prox, who had previously left KU, told the Journal-World he entered his name into the transfer portal on Wednesday. A starting inside linebacker for the Jayhawks last year, Prox opted out of the season after just four games. Though he missed one game, in the three that he played and started, Prox contributed 23 total tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, as well as one sack, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. The veteran was KU's leading tackler at the time he opted out, and he made nine total tackles at West Virginia, in what proved to be Prox's final game with the Jayhawks. An unrated prospect by Rivals in the Class of 2016 when he joined KU, Prox redshirted during his first season with the program. He played sparingly during the 2017 and 2018 seasons before becoming a starter the following year. - Lawrence Journal World

LSU's two returning leading rushers, Ty Davis-Price and John Emery, are both limited with injuries in spring football, head coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday morning in a radio interview. Davis-Price, who led LSU with 446 yards rushing and three touchdowns in 2020, has been hurt "for the most part" since spring football began last week, Orgeron told 104.5 ESPN's "Off the Bench," and they "haven't seen much out of him" although Orgeron didn't detail the injury. Orgeron said Emery, who had 378 yards rushing and three touchdowns in 2020, has been recovering from shoulder surgery. Emery has been wearing a gold noncontact jersey during practice and can't scrimmage. "He's coming back very well," Orgeron said. "He's doing everything we're asking him to do." - Baton Rouge Advocate
