  Calvin Brownholtz and Reynaldo Flores each accounted for two touchdowns and UTEP beat Florida International 40-6 on Saturday. UTEP put up 525 yards of offense and held FIU to just 71. Brownholtz was 12-of-18 passing for 190 yards for UTEP (5-6, 3-4 Conference USA). He threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Tyrin Smith with 3:52 remaining in the second half and connected with Kelly Akharaiyi for a 68-yard touchdown a little over a minute later. Flores ran for 128 yards on 13 carries. He opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and his 43-yarder stretched the Miners' lead to 21-0 early in the second.   Jevon Jackson scored two touchdowns, Mike DiLiello passed for 204 yards, and Austin Peay defeated Kennesaw State 31-14 on Saturday. Jackson had 10 carries for 79 yards with touchdown runs of 6 yards in the third quarter and 23 yards in the fourth, helping the Governors (7-3, 3-2 Atlantic Sun) build a 28-7 lead. The Governors had 200 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. DiLiello completed 21 of 28 and was intercepted once. His top target was Drae McCray who had 10 catches for 95 yards. Xavier Shepherd had 96 yards rushing for Kennesaw State (5-5, 1-3), but Owls quarterbacks combined to go 8-of-19 for 108 yards.   OCT 24 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP K Gavin Baechle connected on a 27-yard field goal as time expired that lifted UTEP to a 24-21 victory over Florida Atlantic after being down 14-6 late in the third quarter. Baechle's field goal was not just the game winner, but it was the 51st of his career, which set the program's record for field goals made. Baechle is also 15-for-16 in 2022, nailing his last 15 attempts. It's the longest streak of his career and longest since the 2008 season for a UTEP kicker. Baechle tied his career best with three field goals, the first of which came on a 29-yard attempt to open the scoring in the second quarter. Baechle added his second field goal in the second quarter on a 32-yard make. Baechle leads C-USA with 15 made field goals and field goals per game (1.9). His 93.8 percentage (15-16) ranks second in the league. Nationally, Baechle is tied for second nationally in field goals made. - Conference USA Football

  Gavin Hardison threw for a touchdown and ran for another TD and Gavin Baechle kicked a 27-yard field goal - his program-record 51st career made field goal - as time expired and UTEP beat Florida Atlantic 24-21 Saturday night. Baechle made field goals of 29 to open the second early in the second quarter and 32 yards with 30 seconds left in the period and FAU took a 7-6 lead into halftime. The senior finished the day 3 for 3 when he made his 15th consecutive field-goal attempt to cap the scoring.

Deion Hankins ran for 138 yards on 17 carries for UTEP (4-4, 2-2 Conference USA). Hardison was 16-of-26 passing for 178 yards with an interception. Hardison scored on a 5-yard run, and then hit Trent Thompson for the 2-point conversion, late in the third quarter and added a 4-yard TD pass to Reynaldo Flores early in the fourth that gave the Miners a 21-14 lead. FAU's N’Kosi Perry threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Austin Evans about 8 minutes later.   OCT 3 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP K Gavin Baechle scored a season-high 11 points (5-5 PATs, 2-2 FG) in UTEP's 41-35 win at Charlotte on Saturday. Baechle extended his streak to 11 consecutive made field goals after hitting on a 22-yard make that gave the Miners a 10-7 edge in the first quarter, while hitting a 29-yarder late in the third that pushed UTEP's lead to 34-21. Baechle is now 11-for-12 on field goals on the season. He leads Conference USA in made field goals (11), attempts (12) and FGM/game (1.8). Nationally, Baechle ranks third in field goals made and is tied eighth in field goals made/per game.   Gavin Hardison threw three touchdown passes, including two to Tyrin Smith, Tyrice Knight and Jadrian Taylor each returned a fumble for a score and UTEP beat Charlotte 41-35 Saturday night. UTEP (3-3, 1-1 Conference USA) won in the Eastern time zone for the first time in program history (1-26-1). Chris Reynolds threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Grant DuBose that capped the game's opening drive and gave Charlotte (1-5, 0-2) a 7-0 lead with 9:48 left in the first quarter. UTEP answered with a 15-play, 75-yard drive that culminated when Smith caught his first TD, a 17-yarder, and Gavin Baechle kicked a 22-yard field goal to give the Miners the lead for good midway through the second quarter.

Hardison hit Trent Thompson for a 26-yard score with 33 seconds left in the half and Knight's 13-yard fumble return for a touchdown 13 seconds later gave UTEP 24-7 lead at the break. Reynolds threw third-quarter TD passes of 23 yards to Elijah Spencer and 2 yards to DuBose to pull the 49ers to 24-21 but Smith scored on a 58-yard catch-and-run and Baechle kicked a 23-yard field goal to make it a three-point game going into the fourth quarter. Charlotte, on its next drive, had a first-and-goal from the 2 but, after an incomplete pass, ChaVon McEachern fumbled near the goal line and Taylor scooped and scored on a 100-yard return to make it 41-21 with 13:36 to play.   SEPT 26 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP PR Marcus Bellon changed the momentum of the game when he returned a punt 47 yards to pay dirt for a touchdown, giving UTEP a 10-point lead in the third quarter during the Miners' 27-10 upset victory against Boise State on Friday night. For Bellon, it was his first career touchdown for the Miners, while it was UTEP's first punt return for a touchdown since Sept. 19, 2015 at NM State.   Gavin Hardison threw for one touchdown, Marcus Bellon returned a punt for another score and UTEP defeated Boise State 27-10 on Friday night. Bellon's 47-yard punt return gave a Miners a 20-10 lead late in the third quarter. The Miners iced the game with a 14-play, 80-yard drive that took 9:10 off the clock in the fourth quarter. Reynaldo Flores capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. Although the Miners (2-3) outgained the Broncos 148-53 in the first half, UTEP didn't take the lead until Hardison hit Jeremiah Ballard with a 42-yard touchdown pass with 2:10 remaining in the second quarter. It was the first career touchdown reception for Ballard, a redshirt freshman.

Hardison completed 10 of 11 passes for 123 yards. The Miners had 199 yards on the ground, led by Deion Hankins with 21 carries for 86 yards. Gavin Baechle added two field goals for UTEP. Boise State's Hank Bachmeier completed only 13 of 34 passes for 93 yards. The Broncos (2-2) had 84 yards rushing and only 177 yards total offense.   UTEP committed a national season-high seven turnovers in its 27-10 loss at New Mexico, including five in the second half. Gavin Hardison threw three interceptions and Calvin Brownholtz was picked off on his only attempt. All three fumbles came in the second half. Baechle put the first points of the game on the board, courtesy of a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter.   UTEP football returns one of their most important pieces on the offense for 2022. Trent Thompson, a senior tight end, is ready to take his game to the next level for the Miners as they approach the beginning of their season. "He is one of the most important guys on our football team," said UTEP head coach Dana Dimel. "He brings so much to the team and is one of our very, very best players on the team and at his position. He's an outstanding blocker, can catch the ball well when he gets his opportunities and just a really physical football player, so we love Trent. He's a really, really important to our ball club." In 2021, Thompson had his best year for the Miners, as he was the team's primary tight end target.

He collected nine receptions for 133 yards and four touchdowns. Thompson finished his 2021 season on a high note. The product out of Houston, Texas recorded career highs in yards (52) and touchdowns (two) against Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl. One of his signature moments, was when Thompson was the one on the receiving end of a 51-yard score against the Bulldogs in the bowl game. For 2022, Thompson is aiming to have the best season of his collegiate career. "This is going to be the best year, in my opinion," said Thompson. "You could take my 2020 and 2021 seasons and combine that together. That is what you're going to get a bunch of pancake blocks and hopefully double the amount of touchdowns." - KTSM
