  08/22/20 - T.J. VasherrSr/2021, Texas Tech, 6-6, 203 (DS#39 WR) + More +

Wide receiver T.J. Vasher was back on the practice field in uniform Friday, a source confirmed, four days after Tech coach Matt Wells said the senior from Wichita Falls Rider continued to be diverted from football workouts to taking care of academic responsibilities. Vasher suggested in a tweet early Friday that he had accomplished what he needed. "Pulled it off. Catch y'all between the lines," he wrote. Wells was not available to media on Friday. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

  08/20/20 - Colin SchoolerrSr/2022, Texas Tech, 6-0, 229 (DS#40 OLB) + More +

Brenden Schooler transferred to Arizona to play with his younger brother, Colin. They lost the opportunity to team up this fall when the Pac-12 postponed sports until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. They've decided to pursue other options. The Schooler brothers announced Wednesday that they're entering their names into the NCAA transfer portal. Both are graduate transfers who'd be eligible to play immediately. Both said they hoped to land at schools that are still planning to play this fall.

While the Pac-12 and Big Ten have decided to nix fall sports, the ACC, Big 12 and SEC are moving forward with modified football seasons for the time being. Colin Schooler started most of the past three seasons at "Mike" linebacker, compiling 312 tackles, including 46 for losses, plus 11 passes defensed and four interceptions. He was named the Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, when he had 95 tackles and 13.5 TFLs, and upped those totals to 119 and 21.5, respectively, as a sophomore in 2018. - Arizona Star News

  08/17/20 - T.J. VasherrSr/2021, Texas Tech, 6-6, 203 (DS#39 WR) + More +

Going into the 2020 season, one of the key story lines surrounding the Texas Tech football team is how well quarterback Alan Bowman bounces back from two seasons shortened by injuries. At the moment, that might be a secondary consideration to who will be his most battle-tested receiver. Ten days into preseason practice, T.J. Vasher remains sidelined and diverted mostly to working on academics. On Monday, Matt Wells characterized Vasher as "still out" and said his participation on the field has been limited to early walk-throughs. Asked by A-J Media if Vasher's eligibility is a concern, the Tech coach said, "He needs to take care of his academics, just like everybody else." Tech started practice on Aug. 7, which was the last day of final examinations for the university's summer II session. Wells said the day before camp started that Vasher would miss the first weekend for academic reasons but was expected back early last week. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

  08/15/20 - Dimitri MoorerSr/2023, Texas Tech, 6-2, 223 (DS#92 ILB) + More +

Multiple Vanderbilt football players have opted out of the upcoming season due to concerns over COVID-19. Coach Derek Mason told ESPN on Saturday that Vanderbilt has had "five or six" opt out, including senior linebacker Dimitri Moore, who was the Commodores' leading tackler in 2019. "We've had five or six opt out, and I know there will be several across the league as this thing gets closer," Mason told ESPN. "Our kids are looking, listening and paying attention and making decisions for themselves, and that's exactly what me and my program encourage. You want these guys to be part of your program and part of your team, but not if they're uncomfortable." Besides Moore, other players identified were offensive linemen Jonathan Stewart, who made his decision known Friday on Twitter, along with Cole Clemens and Bryce Bailey. They join kicker Oren Milstein, a graduate transfer, who previously announced he would not play in 2020. - The Tennessean

2020 WUERFFEL TROPHY PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Zech McPhearson, Texas Tech, senior, defensive back,...In only a year at Texas Tech, McPhearson has become a frequent contributor in Texas Tech's community service initiatives as he has regularly taken part in visits to local children's hospitals as well as elementary school reading program. After most area schools closed due to COVID-19, McPhearson recorded videos to encourage those same elementary school students who were adjusting to a learn-from-home model. On the field, McPhearson instantly became a leader for a young Texas Tech defense a year ago as he was one of four Red Raiders to start in all 12 games. He totaled 51 tackles (42 solo), including 2.5 that went for a loss, from his cornerback spot, while also sharing the team high with five pass breakups. - Texas Tech Football
