  09/15/20 - Jhamon AusbonSr/2021, Texas AM, 6-2, 217 (DS#47 WR) + More +

Less than two weeks before the start of the season, Texas A&M has lost its top wide receiver. Senior Jhamon Ausbon announced Sunday that he's opting out of the season and beginning his prep for the 2021 NFL draft. Ausbon, a big part of the Texas A&M passing game each of the last three years, was a team captain for the Aggies last season and led A&M with 66 catches and 872 yards. Based on early NFL feedback and grades gathered by AL.com, Ausbon seems to be viewed as a fourth-to-fifth round type player at this point. It's a definite blow to the Texas A&M offense. With Ausbon opting out and with Camron Buckley out for the year due to a knee injury, the Aggies don't have anyone currently playing wide receiver that caught more than three passes last season. - Birmingham News

Many people have picked up new hobbies and activities while quarantined amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and Texas A&M linebacker Anthony Hines III put his passion for music into practice while staying at home earlier this year. In late spring, Hines posted three songs under the artist's name "BillisDead" to SoundCloud, an online audio and music sharing platform. He recently released a song titled SOPHISTICATED. Hines said he recorded the songs on his own. "I picked up a little music hobby," Hines said. "That was just the nature of the pandemic, just a lot of time to yourself, a little bit of boredom, and I've always been a pretty good writer, so I just got to writing some music, and the rest is history." Hines draws some of his inspiration from 13-time Grammy award winner and rapper Kendrick Lamar. "I would say Kendrick Lamar is probably my favorite artist," Hines said. "Just the artistry, the word play and the creativity."

Hines said he often sings in the locker room, and his voice has caught the attention of his teammates, too. During a luncheon prior to last year's Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State, Hines was called on stage in front of several hundred people as the team's best singer. Hines proceeded to sing an a cappella version of Vanessa Carlton's hit pop single A Thousand Miles with many teammates standing and singing along in the crowd. "If it wasn't for my brothers, I would have never sang in front of a big crowd like that," Hines said. "It was a fun time." - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  09/01/20 - *Isaiah SpillerJr/2022, Texas AM, 6-0, 217 (DS#3 RB) + More +

Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller was ready when his chance came, moving up the depth chart from one of many backups to the position group's leader in less than a dozen games. Spiller rushed for 946 yards and 10 touchdowns last season to make the All-Southeastern Conference team. He managed only 36 yards rushing in his first three SEC games combined but blossomed to shoulder 80% of the running back carries over the last eight games. "My role has changed a lot from a year ago, which is kind of crazy," Spiller said this week on a Zoom conference call. "But I feel like I've really stepped up this year. I have to be a leader, because I have the most experience. I really can help everybody around me to get better. I know what they're going to experience because I went through that before."

Jashaun Corbin began last season as A&M's starting tailback. The 207-pounder was coming off a solid freshman season as the backup for Trayveon Williams, the SEC rushing champion. He had 346 yards on 61 carries for a solid 5.7 yards per carry average in 2018, and many expected him to approach the 1,760 yards on 271 carries posted that same season by Williams, who opted not to return for his senior year. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  08/22/20 - Kellen MondSr/2021, Texas AM, 6-3, 211 (DS#8 QB) + More +

When Texas A&M senior quarterback Kellen Mond has looked back on his career in Aggieland and discussed his highs and lows with roommate and wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon, there has been a common thread to the moments of success. Decisiveness. It's become an area of focus for the veteran quarterback through a tumultuous offseason. "He doesn't feel like he's been all the way decisive as he should have been," Ausbon said. "As you see, his highs in certain games are when he's his most decisive and when he's most comfortable making decisions. I think that is the one thing that he would say himself that he's trying to work on, everyday decisions in life and being pretty sure in what you want to do."

Life away from the football field has presented a whole new set of choices for college athletes. As protests for equality have been held across America this summer, Mond decisively chose to let his voice be heard, a move noticed by teammates, the university and the Aggie community alike, to a varied assortment of responses. "Anything that's going on, I'm always trying to grow and learn, not just in football but more about life and I'm just trying to give people the same respect that I would want for myself," Mond said during a Zoom press conference Tuesday. "I think I have definitely grown off the field in learning more about myself." - Bryan/College Station Eagle
