  06/02/21 - David Bailey Jr.rSr/2024, Texas AM, 6-0, 225 (DS#999 RB) + More +

David Bailey, Boston College's leading rusher last fall, is transferring to Colorado State to rejoin his former head coach, Steve Addazio. Bailey, a graduate transfer, was on the CSU campus Wednesday preparing to participate in the first scheduled summer workout with his new teammates, athletic department spokesman Kyle Neaves said. The transfer was first reported by 247Sports.

The 6-foot-1, 236-pound running back, ran for 503 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games last fall as a junior at Boston College. He was the Eagles' second-leading rusher in 2019, running for 181 yards in one game against North Carolina State and finishing with 844 yards and seven touchdowns while earning honorable mention in All-Atlantic Coast Conference voting.   05/03/21 - Kellen MondSr/2021, Texas AM, 6-3, 211 (DS#8 QB) + More +

Kellen Mond became the first Texas A&M quarterback taken in the draft since Johnny Manziel in 2014 when the Minnesota Vikings drafted him in the third round with the 66th overall pick Friday. Mond said the Vikings were one of his top teams based on the relationship he developed with Viking offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, son of former A&M quarterback Gary Kubiak. "I kind of had word that they really liked my game...kind of how I approached the game mentally and physically," Mond said. "I definitely knew that was an opportunity for me to go. At that point, it was just playing the waiting game. It's a phenomenal opportunity for me, and I'm super excited right now." Mond was the seventh quarterback selected in this year's draft and the third from the Southeastern Conference behind Alabama's Mac Jones and Florida's Kyle Trask. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  04/10/21 - *DeMarvin LealJr/2022, Texas AM, 6-4, 284 (DS#6 DT) + More +

Texas A&M defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal is not motivated because he didn't win any postseason honors. His focus is on playing for a defense that turns heads. "Beyond the sky," is the ceiling Leal puts on the potential for A&M's defense in 2021. The unit returns nine starters after allowing only 317.3 yards per game to rank ninth in the country. Leal was a big reason A&M improved 20 spots in the national rankings last season. He had 37 tackles to lead the team's linemen. He had seven tackles for loss and eight quarterback pressures, twice as many as anyone else on the team. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder is a tough matchup because he can play tackle or end. "I feel very comfortable at playing both positions," Leal said Tuesday on a Zoom conference. "We have our packages, and certain packages require me to be in the inside. We've been working on every single thing honestly, so it's been good, and I've loved it, since I first started playing in and out."

Teams started to pay extra attention to Leal last season, a trend he's hopeful continues. "Of course, I would love it," he said. "Being that person that [opponents say], 'Oh, watch out for him. You gotta make sure you're on. You're working every single play'...because I promise you, I'm going to bring it every single play." Leal had a career-high seven tackles in three different games last season, including the 41-27 victory over North Carolina in the Orange Bowl. "The guy's talented," A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said late last season. "Inside, outside, pass-rush, play the run...he is a talented, talented young football player, and he's only getting better and better." - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  03/27/21 - Demond DemasrSo/2025, Texas AM, 6-2, 180 (DS#999 WR) + More +

A&M has suspended sophomore wide receiver Demond Demas, who was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana after a traffic stop in Brazos County earlier this month. A&M student-athletes are suspended from athletics activities upon arrest by school policy. The player then meets with athletics department officials to determine an appropriate course of action on a case-by-case basis. Fisher confirmed that Demas has yet to meet with school officials. "When that gets cleared up, he'll be back in action with us," Fisher said. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  03/27/21 - *Jalen WydermyerJr/2022, Texas AM, 6-4, 257 (DS#11 TE) + More +

Texas A&M junior tight end Jalen Wydermyer will miss spring practice due to a cut on his finger that required surgery, head coach Jimbo Fisher said in a press conference Thursday. Wydermyer is one of five players who Fisher believes will miss the entirety of the spring session, which begins Monday and culminates with the Maroon & White Game on April 24 at Kyle Field. Wide receiver Caleb Chapman, offensive lineman Grayson Reed and Trey Zuhn and tight end Blake Smith also may miss spring practice. Wydermyer, who finished second on the team in receiving yards with 506 last season, cut his finger in what Fisher called a "freak accident" off the field. It required surgery on a tendon. "It's all fine," Fisher said. "Just have to get it stretched out. He can't take any hits or anything on it." - Bryan/College Station Eagle

  02/11/21 - David Bailey Jr.rSr/2024, Texas AM, 6-0, 225 (DS#999 RB) + More +

Boston College football's so-called "Buffalo Boys" were on a tear during the 2019 season, as AJ Dillon racked up yard after yard and fellow running back David Bailey played a glorious second fiddle. After the Green Bay Packers drafted Dillon in the 2020 NFL Draft, Bailey was in line for a starting spot, but he struggled under Jeff Hafley's more balanced, less run-heavy offense. Bailey entered his name in the transfer portal on Thursday. The portal allows players to publicly display their desire to scope out other programs, making the transfer process more transparent, but it does not bind them to departure. As a starter in 2020, Bailey recorded just 503 yards on 3.96 yards per carry. While playing backup to Dillon in 2019, however, Bailey put up 844 yards on 5.7 yards per carry. Bailey recorded 16 touchdowns-plus one passing touchdown-and an even 1600 career rushing yards in his time as an Eagle. - The Heights

Texas A&M's Kellen Mond was the Senior Bowl Most Valuable Player but two fellow Southeastern Conference Western Division products made the decisive big play. Arkansas' Feleipe Franks threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Mississippi tight end Kenny Yeboah in the fourth quarter to help seal the National team's 27- 24 victory over the American team Saturday. Franks, a graduate transfer from Florida, set up the all-SEC West scoring connection with a 29-yard completion to Louisville's Dez Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick had six catches for 90 yards in the showcase game for senior and graduate NFL prospects, earning offensive player of the game honors. Mond was the MVP with a huge third quarter when he passed for 141 of his 173 yards and a pair of touchdowns after a slow start. - AP College Football

  01/10/21 - Buddy JohnsonSr/2021, Texas AM, 6-1, 229 (DS#8 ILB) + More +

Things fell in place for the Texas A&M football team this season because it had the leaders to make sure their teammates were in the right place doing the right things. No one did that better than senior linebacker Buddy Johnson, who announced Friday morning on Twitter that he will enter the NFL draft. Johnson could have returned for a fifth season by taking advantage of the NCAA's ruling that this season did not count toward a player's eligibility. Johnson is the team's fourth senior to declare for the NFL draft, joining Mond, offensive left tackle Dan Moore Jr., center Ryan McCollum and right guard Jared Hocker. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

Texas A&M record-setting senior quarterback Kellen Mond and right offensive guard Jared Hocker both declared for the NFL draft on Thursday rather than return for another season. Mond went 31-13 as a starter, making him the second-winningest quarterback in school history behind Corey Pullig, who went 33-6-1 from 1992-95. Mond holds several school career passing records, including yards (9,661), touchdowns (71), completions (801), and attempts (1,358).
