  11/29/19 - Sam EhlingerSr/2021, Texas, 6-1, 220 (DS#9 QB) + More +

Sam Ehlinger passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Texas to a 49-24 win over Texas Tech on Friday, guaranteeing the Longhorns will at least finish a disappointing season with a winning record. Texas fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter before Ehlinger and the Longhorns came roaring back. Ehlinger scored his first rushing touchdown in five games, and later connected on scoring strikes of 75 yards to Devin Duvernay and 26 yards to Jake Smith. Ehlinger finished with 348 yards passing and ran for 83 yards on 10 carries. Roschon Johnson added 105 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Texas (7-5, 5-4 Big 12) started the season ranked in the Top 10 after last season’s Sugar Bowl victory, but stumbled badly over the second half of coach Tom Herman’s third season. A loss Friday would have meant Texas had to win its bowl game to have a winning season. Texas avoided that kind of pressure thanks to Ehlinger and the Longhorns offense playing their best football since early October. Texas Tech (4-8, 2-7) jumped out early with two quick touchdown drives as quarterback Jett Duffey was carving up the Longhorns defense. But the Red Raiders also had three drives end on downs deep in Texas territory as Texas Tech’s first-year coach Matt Wells chased an upset win to end the season. Duffey passed for 398 yards. - AP College Football

  11/09/19 - Cameron DickerSr/2022, Texas, 6-1, 216 (DS#4 K) + More +

Cameron Dicker kicked a 26-yard field goal as time expired to lift Texas past Kansas State as the Longhorns maintained their hopes of returning to the Big 12 championship game. Dicker has won games on the final play twice this season. His 33-yarder to beat Kansas on Oct. 19 capped a wild 50-48 finish. Texas (6-3, 4-2) had lost two of its previous three games. The victory over the Wildcats (6-3, 3-3, No. 16 College Football Playoff) made the Longhorns bowl-eligible and kept them in the hunt for a berth in the league championship with three games left. Keaontay Ingram rushed for 139 yards and two second-half touchdowns for the Longhorns. Kansas State rallied to tie it on Joshua Youngblood's 98-yard kickoff return and Blake Lynch's 45-yard field goal. - Texas/AP College Football

The Texas defense has been severely depleted by injuries and gets a key player back this week in sophomore safety Caden Sterns. An All-Big 12 player last year, Sterns has missed four games with a leg injury and his absence left gaping holes in coverage and run support. - AP College Football

  11/08/19 - Sam EhlingerSr/2021, Texas, 6-1, 220 (DS#9 QB) + More +

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger is still on a tear through the school's single-season passing records, but his last few games have been kind of rough. He's completing less than 60% of his passes the last four games and has six interceptions to eight touchdowns. Herman, however, says he has "no issues" about Ehlinger's play and that only one of the turnovers against TCU was his fault. "Everybody wants to look at sacks and say the O-line stinks," Herman said. "Everybody wants to look at interceptions and say the quarterback stinks or had a bad game. He made one bad decision." - AP College Football

Mario Cristobal wished senior wide receiver Brenden Schooler well after he entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. "We support him and his choice," the coach said. Schooler missed the first four games of the season after injuring his foot in August. He had two catches for 44 yards this season. The move was a blow to the Ducks, who also lost senior tight end Jacob Breeland to a season-ending injury last week. - AP College Football

  10/20/19 - Cameron DickerSr/2022, Texas, 6-1, 216 (DS#4 K) + More +

On the brink of being upset, Texas put the game in the hands of quarterback Sam Ehlinger and on the foot of the Longhorn player that coach Tom Herman refuses to call by name. Ehlinger came through again. So did Cameron Dicker the kicker. Given the ball with just 1:11 to play after Kansas had taken a one-point lead, Ehlinger drove the Longhorns to the Jayhawks' 21-yard line. Dicker did the rest, calmly booting a 33-yard field goal as time expired to send the No. 15 Longhorns to a 50-48 victory in a wild game with a frantic fourth quarter that saw the teams exchange six touchdowns, two field goals and a blocked extra point for a 2-point safety. "I love kickers," said Herman, who makes a joke of not saying a kicker's name, and still didn't in his postgame news conference. "I'm glad that we have the one we have."

It's the second career game-winner the sophomore has delivered for the Longhorns. His field goal in the final seconds beat Oklahoma last season. After beating Kansas, the student section of fans was chanting his name. "When we got into 10 seconds left ... I was ready to go," Dicker said. "I felt pretty confident going into this. Going in and nailing it felt pretty good." Kansas, under first-year coach Les Miles, nearly had a victory that would have stunned the Big 12 and knocked Texas out of the ranks of favorite to get to the league championship. And the Jayhawks (2-5, 0-4) were oh-so-close. Pooka Williams rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns and Carter Stanley passed for 310 yards and four touchdowns for the Jayhawks. - Texas/AP College Football

  10/20/19 - Malcolm RoachSr/2020, Texas, 6-2, 297 (DS#19 DT) + More +

Texas defensive end Malcolm Roach was suspended for the first half after a targeting penalty a week earlier against Oklahoma. He made a big impact with his return as Williams found tougher running in the second half. Roach also got the surge up the middle to block the extra point that Texas returned the other way. Herman called it the "play of the game." - Texas/AP College Football

  10/05/19 - Sam EhlingerSr/2021, Texas, 6-1, 220 (DS#9 QB) + More +

Sam Ehlinger threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores while No. 11 Texas converted three turnovers into TDs in a 42-31 victory over West Virginia on Saturday. Ehlinger and Texas (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) beat the Mountaineers (3-2, 1-1) on the road for the second straight time. The Longhorns had plenty of motivation for this one. Ehlinger and several Texas players were upset last year after several Mountaineers flashed "horns down" signs during West Virginia's 42-41 win in Austin, Texas. Ehlinger noted in a tweet that was later deleted: "Do not think it will be forgotten."

Ehlinger finished 18 of 33 for 211 yards. He threw just his second interception of the season that West Virginia turned into a third-quarter field goal. The Texas defense showed no signs of slowing down despite injuries that have decimated the secondary. The Longhorns intercepted Austin Kendall four times, twice by cornerback D'Shawn Jamison. Texas needed those turnovers to break open a close game, too. B.J. Foster's pick early in the fourth quarter led to Devin Duvernay's 13-yard scoring run. Kendall was intercepted on the next drive by Jamison at the West Virginia 18, and Ehlinger threw a lateral to offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi, who rumbled 12 yards into the end zone for a 35-17 lead. Kendall threw three TD passes, including pair of fourth-quarter scores, and had a 1-yard scoring run. He finished 31 of 46 for a career-high 367 yards. - Texas/AP College Football

Texas slot receiver Devin Duvernay has been perfectly in sync with quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Deceptively strong to go with blazing speed, he leads the nation in receptions per game with a 9.8 average and has four touchdowns. And he hasn’t dropped a pass in at least two years. Ehlinger sums up Duvernay like this: “He can run through you or around you.” - AP College Football

  09/24/19 - *Caden SternsJr/2021, Texas, 6-0, 202 (DS#5 FS) + More +

The injury news keeps getting worse for No. 11 Texas and its defense. Coach Tom Herman said Monday the Longhorns have lost two more starters in the secondary for several weeks after getting hurt in a conference-opening win over Oklahoma State: All-Big 12 safety Caden Sterns, the team's leading tackler, is expected to miss the next four weeks with a knee ligament sprain. Cornerback Jalen Green is expected to miss at least that much time with a dislocated shoulder.

Another defensive back, Josh Thompson, is out indefinitely with a broken foot and linebacker Marcus Tillman Jr., will miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament sprain. Texas (3-1, 1-0) is already struggling against the pass. The Longhorns rank No. 100 nationally in pass efficiency defense and No. 96 overall in third down defense. The Longhorns are off this week before traveling to West Virginia on Oct. 5. They play No. 6 Oklahoma, which has one of the top passing offenses in the country, on Oct. 12. - AP College Football
