Promising Florida redshirt freshman linebacker David Reese will miss the 2019 season after tearing his Achilles tendon during a recent summer workout, according to reports Thursday citing unnamed sources. UF did not confirm the injury. Florida coach Dan Mullen possibly will address injuries at SEC Media Days in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday.

Reese, who in the spring was pushing for playing time at the rush end position vacated by Jachai Polite, played in two games as a true freshman last fall. He was expected to begin preseason drills later this month third on the depth chart behind Louisville transfer Jon Greenard and junior Jeremiah Moon. The versatile and athletic Reese also is capable of playing outside linebacker. - Gainesville Sun

Former Syracuse football linebacker Shyheim Cullen was not selected in the NFL Supplemental Draft on Wednesday. He is now a free agent eligible to sign with any team. Cullen is pursuing a professional career after losing his final year of collegiate eligibility due to his academic standing. He's received interest from more than a dozen teams and hosted representatives from three at a Pro Day last Monday. Cullen has come a long way to this point. He lived in eight foster homes over the first four years of his life, overcame severe malnutrition and was misdiagnosed with a mental disability until he was adopted. He has since worked through a learning disability, earned Power-Five football opportunities and developed gradually as a contributor at SU. - The Post-Standard

  06/25/19 - Ryan AlexanderrSr/2020, Syracuse, 6-3, 307 (DS#999 OG) + More +

One of Syracuse football's most important offseason additions has enrolled and is officially a member of the program, head coach Dino Babers announced on Tuesday. Ryan Alexander, a graduate transfer from South Alabama, has signed a financial aid agreement. He is expected to fill one of SU's vacant offensive tackle positions.

Named all-Sun Belt Conference honorable mention in 2018, Alexander committed to the Orange in March following an official visit. He was also offered as a grad transfer by Rutgers, SMU, Tulane, Charlotte and Liberty. Penn State, Texas and Iowa are among the schools to express interest.

The 6-foot-4, 308-pound Alexander was a two-year starter at right tackle for USA, starting 28 of the team's last 29 games. He was offered by the Orange in late January and actively recruited by offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh, who visited him shortly afterward. - Syracuse.com

  06/24/19 - Shyheim CullenrJr/2019, Syracuse, 6-0, 224 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

Former Syracuse football linebacker Shyhem Cullen was accepted into the 2019 NFL Supplemental Draft on Friday. Since then, about 10 teams have expressed interest, his stepfather, John Brewer, said. Six have spoken with Cullen or someone close to him while three are doing more extensive background checks. A representative from one franchise called Sunday at 9 p.m. having already chatted with Cullen's high school coach.

"I've been kind of surprised," Brewer said. "I've been surprised at a ton of the teams that have been digging into him over the weekend." The last six months have been trying for Cullen, who was academically suspended from SU for the spring semester and unable to work his way back - ultimately finding out that he was also ruled ineligible by the NCAA. The little-known Supplemental Draft became Cullen's best route to playing professional football, and personnel across the industry - agents, especially - proved unfamiliar with its processes, Brewer said. - Syracuse.com
