  Joshua Dye rushed for a career-high 204 yards with three touchdowns to power Southern Utah to a 28-7 victory over Utah Tech on Saturday night. Dye, a sophomore who did his damage on 24 carries for Southern Utah (3-5, 2-2 United Athletic Conference), scored on a 20-yard run to open the scoring in the first quarter. Will Burns ran it in for two points and Jayden Rogers added a 35-yard field goal for an 11-0 lead that held through a scoreless second quarter.

Dye had the lone score of the third quarter on a 13-yard run and upped the Thunderbirds' advantage to 25-0 with a 92-yard touchdown run with 11:29 left to play. He has already rushed for 1,166 yards this season, tops in the FCS. Bronson Barben had a 4-yard touchdown run with 7:08 remaining to help Utah Tech (1-7, 0-4) avoid the shutout. He had 233 yards on 27-for-41 passing with an interception. Rogers kicked a 22-yard field goal for the final margin. Bronson Barron completed 10 of 17 passes for 110 yards for the Thunderbirds.   WEEK 8 UNITED ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Southern Utah's junior linebacker Mason Stromstad was a huge part of the Thunderbirds' win over nationally-ranked Abilene Christian. He racked up a team-best 11 total tackles in the game, including six solo stops. Stromstad forced a fumble and secured the game-sealing interception with just under a minute to go in the game.   Joshua Dye ran for 179 yards and two scores, and Bronson Barron threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Shane Carr with 2:17 remaining to push Southern Utah past Abilene Christian 31-24 on Saturday night. Mason Stromstad intercepted a Stone Earle pass near midfield with 1:07 left to seal it for Southern Utah (2-5, 1-2 United Athletic Conference). Earle's 28-yard touchdown pass to Javon Gipson gave Abilene Christian a 24-21 lead with 12:07 left. Jayden Rogers kicked a 19-yard field goal for Southern Utah to tie it at 24-all.

Barron was 13-of-17 passing for 111 yards. Dye ran for an 18-yard touchdown to open the scoring and added a 1-yard score early in the third quarter to give Southern Utah a 21-17 lead. Mikey Allen had a 32-yard pick-6 for the Thunderbirds just before halftime. Earle completed 17 of 23 passes for 225 yards and threw three interceptions.   WEEK 3 UNITED ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Southern Utah's Ran Sawyer, a true freshman running back/kick returner from St. George, Utah, lived up to his first name as he Ran and kept running with two long kick returns, featuring a 95-yard dash to the endzone late in the second half.   WEEK 1 UAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Southern Utah's Joshua Dye, a redshirt sophomore running back, powered the Thunderbirds' offense with a dominant performance on the ground, carrying the ball 28 times for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Averaging 6.4 yards per carry, Dye consistently moved the chains and wore down the defense, highlighted by a 32-yard burst that set up a scoring drive.   Bronson Barron threw three touchdown passes and Joshua Dye rushed for 180 yards and two scores to lead Southern Utah to a 46-24 victory over Idaho State in a season opener on Saturday night. Barron completed 19 of 25 passes for 240 yards for the Thunderbirds. Barron tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Nunez and a 13-yarder to Mark Bails Jr. to put Southern Utah up 15-0 after one quarter. Dye scored on a 32-yard run 1:41 into the second quarter for a 22-0 advantage.

Jordan Cooke connected with Damien Morgan for a 19-yard touchdown on the ensuing possession for Idaho State and safety Mason Young picked up a fumble and ran 15 yards for a score to get the Bengals within eight. Jayden Rogers' 20-yard field goal put the Thunderbirds up 25-14 at halftime. Barron had a 4-yard scoring toss to Niko Alailefaleula and Will Burns ran 72 yards for a touchdown to push Southern Utah's advantage to 39-14 midway through the third. Dye capped the scoring on a 19-yard run with 4:04 left. Burns finished with 107 yards on five carries. Cooke completed 23 of 45 passes for 334 yards for the Bengals, who managed only 23 yards on 16 rushes.   2022 WAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jake Gerardi, R-Sr., P, Southern Utah,...Gerardi, a redshirt senior punter, was one of the top players at the position nationally throughout the regular season. Gerardi led the WAC and the FCS with a 48.0 yards per punt average over 52 attempts, with a conference-high 20 punts covering 50 or more yards. Gerardi also ranked second in the conference with 18 punts landing inside the opponent's 20-yard line.   Bronson Barron threw for 220 yards and a touchdown, Kyle Thompson kicked four field goals, including the game-winner with five seconds left, and Weber State beat Northern Arizona 33-31 on Saturday. Collin Robbins gave the Lumberjacks a 31-30 lead with a 39-yard field goal with 2:50 left. Barron was brilliant on the final drive. He completed all four of his passes for 46 yards and had two carries for eight yards to keep the drive going. The Wildcats (9-2, 6-2 Big Sky) put together an 11-play, 65-yard drive to set up Thompson's field goal. Weber State will wait to see if they earn an at-large big to the FCS playoffs after winning three of its last four games.   Justin Miller threw for 154 yards, Isaiah Wooden rushed for 99 yards and Southern Utah beat Sam Houston 17-7 on Saturday. Miller had one touchdown and one interception for Southern Utah (5-6, 2-3 Western Athletic Conference). Elijah Burns capped the scoring with a 2-yard score with 6:22 left in the third quarter. Trapper Pannell was intercepted two times for Sam Houston (5-4, 3-2). He threw for 127 yards and carried it 21 times for 147 yards and another score.   Bronson Barron threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and Dontae McMillan ran for 139 yards and a touchdown and Weber State beat Idaho State 45-7 on Saturday. The Wildcats (8-2, 5-2 Big Sky) rebounded from last week's 33-30 defeat against conference leader Sacramento State to score more than 40 points for the fifth time this season. McMillan reached his rushing total on just 15 carries; a 9.3-yards per carry average.

Idaho State's (1-9, 1-6) lone score occurred when Sagan Gronauer threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Christian Fredrickson to reduce its deficit to 21-7 with five seconds left before halftime. The Wildcats hold a 48-15 all-time series lead over Idaho State and has especially dominated the series since the mid-90s.   Justin Miller threw four touchdowns passes and Southern Utah beat Division II-member Lincoln University (Calif.) 55-0 on Saturday. Miller was 22-of-25 passing for 208 yards. He threw two touchdown passes to Brennon Hutchings and one each to Marcus Phillips Jr. and Tim Patrick Jr. Southern Utah (3-6) put up 450 yards of offense while holding Lincoln to 74 yards and just four first downs.   Bronson Barron threw two touchdown passes and Weber State drained the final 5:43 off the clock to hold off Montana 24-21 on Saturday in a showdown of two Top 10 FCS teams. The Wildcats (7-1, 4-1 Big Sky Conference), ranked seventh in the FCS coaches poll, took a 24-13 lead on Barron's second TD pass, a 12-yarder to Hayden Meacham with 5:56 to play. But Malik Flowers took the ensuing kickoff 100 yard s and the Grizzlies (5-3, 2-3), who have lost three straight and dropped to 10th in the rankings, used a trick play for the 2-point conversion to pull within a field goal. Weber State then pounded the ball on the Grizzlies and clinched the game by converting a fourth-and-1 just outside the Montana 40.

Barron was 14-of-23 passing for 153 yards and Dontae McMillan ran for 100 on 23 carries. Damon Bankson added 79 yards on nine carries, including a 47-yard touchdown for a 7-3 lead. Bronson's first TD was a 69-yard catch-and-run with Ty MacPherson to grab a 17-13 lead in the third quarter. Montana could only muster 114 yards behind backup quarterback Kris Brown. Brown was just 10-of-17 passing for 72 yards and was sacked four times as the replacement for Lucas Johnson, who was injured early in last week's overtime loss to third-ranked Sacramento State. - Weber State/AP College Football
