  2022 WAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jake Gerardi, R-Sr., P, Southern Utah,...Gerardi, a redshirt senior punter, was one of the top players at the position nationally throughout the regular season. Gerardi led the WAC and the FCS with a 48.0 yards per punt average over 52 attempts, with a conference-high 20 punts covering 50 or more yards. Gerardi also ranked second in the conference with 18 punts landing inside the opponent's 20-yard line.   NOV 21 WAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jake Gerardi, R-Sr., P, Southern Utah (Nov. 21),...Gerardi, a redshirt senior punter, helped flip the field multiple times for Southern Utah in an impressive 17-7 win at Sam Houston in the season finale on Nov. 19. Gerardi averaged a massive 47.1 yards per punt, including two attempts over 50 yards and a long of 68, and located three punts inside the Sam Houston 20-yard line. - WAC Football

  Bronson Barron threw for 220 yards and a touchdown, Kyle Thompson kicked four field goals, including the game-winner with five seconds left, and Weber State beat Northern Arizona 33-31 on Saturday. Collin Robbins gave the Lumberjacks a 31-30 lead with a 39-yard field goal with 2:50 left. Barron was brilliant on the final drive. He completed all four of his passes for 46 yards and had two carries for eight yards to keep the drive going. The Wildcats (9-2, 6-2 Big Sky) put together an 11-play, 65-yard drive to set up Thompson's field goal. Weber State will wait to see if they earn an at-large big to the FCS playoffs after winning three of its last four games.   Justin Miller threw for 154 yards, Isaiah Wooden rushed for 99 yards and Southern Utah beat Sam Houston 17-7 on Saturday. Miller had one touchdown and one interception for Southern Utah (5-6, 2-3 Western Athletic Conference). Elijah Burns capped the scoring with a 2-yard score with 6:22 left in the third quarter. Trapper Pannell was intercepted two times for Sam Houston (5-4, 3-2). He threw for 127 yards and carried it 21 times for 147 yards and another score. Southern Utah's Rodrick Ward intercepted a tipped pass and returned it 8 yards, and Davin Wilson was the only player within 10 yards of him for an easy pick in the fourth quarter. - Southern Utah/AP College Football

  Bronson Barron threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and Dontae McMillan ran for 139 yards and a touchdown and Weber State beat Idaho State 45-7 on Saturday. The Wildcats (8-2, 5-2 Big Sky) rebounded from last week's 33-30 defeat against conference leader Sacramento State to score more than 40 points for the fifth time this season. McMillan reached his rushing total on just 15 carries; a 9.3-yards per carry average.

Idaho State's (1-9, 1-6) lone score occurred when Sagan Gronauer threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Christian Fredrickson to reduce its deficit to 21-7 with five seconds left before halftime. The Wildcats hold a 48-15 all-time series lead over Idaho State and has especially dominated the series since the mid-90s. Weber State has won nine straight, 20 of the last 21 and 26 of the last 28 games against Idaho State. ISU has won just two games in the series since 1996. - Weber State/AP College Football

  Justin Miller threw four touchdowns passes and Southern Utah beat Division II-member Lincoln University (Calif.) 55-0 on Saturday. Miller was 22-of-25 passing for 208 yards. He threw two touchdown passes to Brennon Hutchings and one each to Marcus Phillips Jr. and Tim Patrick Jr. Southern Utah (3-6) put up 450 yards of offense while holding Lincoln to 74 yards and just four first downs.   Bronson Barron threw two touchdown passes and Weber State drained the final 5:43 off the clock to hold off Montana 24-21 on Saturday in a showdown of two Top 10 FCS teams. The Wildcats (7-1, 4-1 Big Sky Conference), ranked seventh in the FCS coaches poll, took a 24-13 lead on Barron's second TD pass, a 12-yarder to Hayden Meacham with 5:56 to play. But Malik Flowers took the ensuing kickoff 100 yard s and the Grizzlies (5-3, 2-3), who have lost three straight and dropped to 10th in the rankings, used a trick play for the 2-point conversion to pull within a field goal. Weber State then pounded the ball on the Grizzlies and clinched the game by converting a fourth-and-1 just outside the Montana 40.

Barron was 14-of-23 passing for 153 yards and Dontae McMillan ran for 100 on 23 carries. Damon Bankson added 79 yards on nine carries, including a 47-yard touchdown for a 7-3 lead. Bronson's first TD was a 69-yard catch-and-run with Ty MacPherson to grab a 17-13 lead in the third quarter. Montana could only muster 114 yards behind backup quarterback Kris Brown. Brown was just 10-of-17 passing for 72 yards and was sacked four times as the replacement for Lucas Johnson, who was injured early in last week's overtime loss to third-ranked Sacramento State. - Weber State/AP College Football

  SEPT 19 WAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zach Strand, Sr., DL, Southern Utah (Sept. 19),...Strand, a senior defensive lineman transfer from Frostburg State, made his presence felt late in the second half of a 17-10 win for Southern Utah at Western Illinois on Sept. 17. Strand finished the game with six total tackles, 1.5 sacks and gathered in a key fumble recovery for the Thunderbirds to hold Western Illinois at bay in the red zone. Strand, who previously completed at the NCAA Division II and Division III levels while playing for Frostburg State, is believed to be the first player to register at least one sack in all three major divisions of college football. - WAC Football

  SEPT 5 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Justin Miller, R-Jr., QB, Southern Utah (Sept. 5),...Miller, a redshirt junior quarterback, was an offensive force for Southern Utah in a 44-13 rout of St. Thomas (Minn.) to open the season on Sept. 1. Miller completed 23-of-35 (65.7 percent) of his passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers for the Thunderbirds. The new WAC member never trailed in their first conference game, with quarterback Justin Miller completing 29 of 37 passes for 352 yards and two touchdowns, and safety Rodrick Ward collecting six tackles, two interceptions and two pass breakups.   Bronson Barron threw three touchdown passes and Weber State defeated Portland State 42-7 on Saturday for the Wildcats' eighth straight win. The Wildcats' previous loss came to Portland State last season. The win Saturday was the Weber State's eighth consecutive road victory which came in Jay Hill's 100th game as the Wildcats' coach. Portland State avoided a shutout with Dante Chachere's 12-yard touchdown pass to Mataio Talalemotu with 6:18 to go. Those were the first points Weber State (6-0, 3-0 Big Sky Conference), ranked sixth in the FCS coaches poll, has given up in the fourth quarter this season. Barron threw scoring passes to Haze Hadley, Hayden Meacham and a 55-yarder to Jacob Sharp. Dontae McMillan, Damon Bankston and Steven Shoats-Thomas added rushing touchdowns. Brown threw for 274 yards and was intercepted once. Chachere threw for 167 yards with an interception for the Vikings (2-4, 1-2). Weber State outgained Portland State 553-236. - AP College Football

  SEPT 19 BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bronson Barron (Weber State),...Weber State's Bronson Barron was named the Big Sky Football Offensive Player of the Week after passing for a career-high 368 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-14 victory over Utah Tech. The four-touchdown game was the second of Barron's career, as he had scores of 13, 35, 36 and 17 yards in the win. Barron also became the 17th player in WSU history to reach 3,000 career passing yards after racking up 368 yards on Saturday.   Bronson Barron completed 20 of 30 passes for 201 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown pass to Josh Davis, and Davis added 100 yards rushing on 20 carries to help Weber State beat UC Davis 17-12 Saturday night. Weber State lost a fumble on the first play from scrimmage and Isaiah Gomez kicked a 35-yard field goal for UC Davis to open the scoring about 90 seconds into the game. On third-and-4, Davis caught a pass from Barron for a 16-yard touchdown late in the first quarter and Dontae McMillan capped an eight-play, 80-yard drive with a 6-yard TD run to make it 14-3 with 13:46 to play in the first half.

Gomez, who missed kicks from 50, 50 and 18 yards, made a 41-yard field goal midway though the second quarter, Kyle Thompson kick a 23-yarder for Weber State with 9:21 left in the game that gave the Wildcats a 17-6 lead. C.J. Hutton, who finished with 10 receptions for 77 yards for UC Davis (1-3, 0-1), caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Miles Hastings to cap the scoring with 5:33 to go. Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. - who went into the game as the active leader in the FCS with 3,689 yards rushing, 40 rushing TDs - had 17 carries for 111 yards for the Aggies. Utah Tech (1-3, 0-1 Western Athletic Conference) failed to convert a fourth-and-7 play from the SUU 35 and, on the next play, Justin Miller hit Isaiah Wooden down the left sideline for a 65-yard catch-and-run touchdown to make it 14-7 with 11:56 left in the first half and Southern Utah led the rest of the way. Miller went 4 for 4 on third downs - hitting four different targets for first downs - on a 16-play, 82-yard drive that culminated when Ethan Bolingbroke caught a 3-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds left in the second quarter and make it 24-10.
