  2022 WALTER CAMP SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: WR Rashee Rice, SMU,..Rice finished the regular season as the FBS leader in receiving yards (1,355, SMU record) and receiving yards per game (112.9) and was fifth in receptions per game (8.0) and 11th in receiving TDs (10). He currently has a streak of 40 straight games with a reception (4th FBS). Rice posted career highs in receptions (13 vs. Memphis) and yards (193 at Maryland) in 2022, and has three 150+ yard games. The senior has 10 career 100-yard games, including six in 2022, and has five multi-TD games, three coming this season.   Brandon Crossley picked off a Seth Henigan pass in the back of the end zone with two seconds left to preserve SMU's 34-31 win over Memphis Saturday in the regular-season finale for both schools. Henigan drove the Tigers 76 yards to set up second-and-goal at the SMU 9 with 14 seconds left, needing only a field goal to send the game into overtime. He rolled to his left and floated a pass intended for a receiver streaking along the end line only to have Crossley make a leaping interception. Tanner Mordecai fired 24 yards to Rashee Rice early in the fourth quarter, then drove the Mustangs 66 yards in 12 plays to set up Collin Rogers' 23-yard field goal to take a 34-23 lead. But Henigan answered by hitting Roc Taylor from 7-yards out, then finding Gabriel Rogers for a two-point conversion to pull Memphis within 34-31 with 2:36 left in the game.

SMU's Austin Upshaw pounced on the on-sides kick, but the Mustangs could not make a first down and punted, giving the Tigers the ball at their own 16. Mordecai was 22 of 30 for 228 yards and two touchdowns and Tyler Lavine carried it 25 times for 64 yards and two scores to lead SMU (7-5, 5-3 American Athletic Conference). Rice caught 13 passes for 147 yards. Henigan was 27 of 44 for 287 yards and a touchdown, with Javon Ivory catching six for 98 yards for Memphis (6-6, 3-5). Jevyon Ducker carried 10 times for 81 yards. SMU won for just the fifth time in 15 meetings with Memphis. Since both teams joined the AAC, the Tigers lead the series 7-3. - SMU/AP College Football

  Preston Stone passed to Rashee Rice for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and SMU never trailed in a 45-34 victory over Tulsa on Saturday. Tyler Lavine followed with the first of his three short touchdown runs on the day and SMU (4-4, 2-2 American Athletic Conference) led 14-0 before the game was five minutes old. Lavine's second scoring run helped the Mustangs take a 24-7 lead at halftime. Elijah Chapman scooped up a fumble and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter to push the Mustangs' lead to 45-20.

Stone completed 11 of 17 passes for 219 yards for SMU. Freshman backup quarterback Kevin Jennings had his first collegiate touchdown pass - a 6-yarder to Rice late in the third quarter. Rice had nine receptions for 180 yards. Braylon Braxton came off the bench to complete 8 of 14 passes for 120 yards for the Golden Hurricane (3-5, 1-3).   SMU true freshman corner Jayden Lawton announced his intention to sit out the rest of the season and transfer when the transfer portal opens. Lawton made the announcement on his Instagram. Lawton, a cousin of former NFL wide receiver Michael Crabtree, was looked at as a very raw, but talented prospect for the Mustangs. The 6-foot-4 corner was primarily a basketball player until he started playing high school football at Lovejoy. Lawton was listed as a three-star recruit with offers from SMU, Ohio and Illinois, according to 247Sports. - Dallas Morning News

  SMU wide receiver Jake Bailey, a promising transfer from Rice, will "probably" miss the rest of the season due to injury, head coach Rhett Lashlee said after Tuesday's practice. Bailey appeared in four games for the Mustangs and finished with 12 receptions for 205 yards and a touchdown. There was a lot of optimism for Bailey heading into this season. He was a standout during fall camp, opening the eyes of SMU's coaches with his ability to get open. He had 56 receptions during his junior season at Rice and led the Owls with 714 receiving yards.

At SMU, it looked like Bailey - in a fast, explosive offense - could build off his junior season. "He's kind of a prototypical slot for what we do," Lashlee said during fall camp, "and we thought it was a good fit." Bailey suffered a shoulder injury later on in fall camp and re-injured it in the season opener against North Texas. He returned in a big way, though, catching eight passes for 163 yards and a touchdown against rival TCU. - Dallas Morning News

  West Virginia coach Neal Brown ruled senior cornerback Charles Woods out for the second consecutive game after Woods was injured in the first quarter of the Pitt game. Fellow defensive back Aubrey Burks was injured against the Jayhawks and was listed by Brown as questionable.
