  Besean McCray scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 22-yard run and Southern pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Grambling 34-17 in the Bayou Classic on Saturday at the Superdome. It was a back-and-forth affair until McCray capped a 12-play, 60-yard drive for Southern (7-4, 5-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) with his scoring run. The Jaguars took the first two-score lead of the game when Kriston Davis picked off a Julian Calvez pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown and a 28-17 advantage. Calvez, a freshman, staked Grambling to a 7-0 lead with 43 seconds left in the first quarter on a 4-yard touchdown pass to Lyndon Rash.

Freshman Karl Ligon pulled Southern even on a 2-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. Grambling (3-8, 2-6) went ahead 10-7 on Garrett Urban's 44-yard field goal with 3:17 remaining, but the Jaguars answered with freshman Kendric Rhymes' 5-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds left to take a 14-10 lead into halftime. Calvez had the only score of the third quarter, capping a nine-play, 94-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run and the Tigers grabbed a 17-14 lead. McCray completed 7 of 17 passes for 75 yards and led the Jaguars with 93 yards on 17 rushes. Calvez completed 13 of 27 throws for 152 yards for the Tigers.   Glendon McDaniel completed 11 of 16 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns and 60 yards rushing - including a 10-yard touchdown - on 11 carries to help Southern beat Mississippi Valley State 27-7 Saturday night. McDaniel, avoiding the rush, rolled out to his right and hit Tyler Kirkwood in the corner of the end zone for a 34-yard yard touchdown and, one play after Corione Harris returned an interception 78 yards to the 10, McDaniel's TD run made it 20-0 with 4:21 left in the first half. BeSean McCray was 2-for-2 passing for 67 yards and a touchdown for Southern (6-4, 4-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference).   Besean McCray threw two touchdown passes and freshman Karl Ligon ran 36 yards for a score to lead Southern to a 21-17 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday night. McCray connected with August Pitre for a 37-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead for Southern (4-2, 3-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) after one quarter. Ligon's touchdown run came two minutes into the second quarter, stretching the Jaguars' advantage to 14-0. Aaron Allen put together a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with his 26-yard scoring strike to Malik Rodgers to pull Alcorn State (3-3, 2-1) within 14-7.

McCray answered with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Cassius Allen for a 21-7 lead, but Allen connected with Monterio Hunt for a 31-yard score to get the Braves within seven points at halftime. Noah Kiani's 24-yard fourth-quarter field goal for Alcorn State was the only scoring in the second half. McCray completed 12 of 19 passes for 199 yards with one interception for Southern. Ligon carried 16 times for 92 yards. Pitre had four receptions for 127 yards.   Benny McCray threw two third-quarter touchdown passes to Austin Pitre III and ran for two more scores to help Southern beat Prairie View A&M 45-13 Saturday. McCray finished 16-of-22 passing for 275 yards and had 10 carries for 85 yards. Southern (3-2, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took the opening kick of the second half and went 78 yards in five plays, culminating when McCray connected with Pitre for a 23-yard touchdown that gave the Jaguars a 17-13 lead less than 2 minutes into the third quarter. Pitre added a 13-yard scoring reception about 10 minutes later before McCray had an 8-yard TD run, Karl Ligon added a 2-yard touchdown run and Jordan Carter returned an interception 56 yards in the fourth quarter to make it 45-13.   Besean McCray threw four touchdown passes and Southern used a five-touchdown second quarter to rout Arkansas-Pine Bluff 59-3 on Saturday. Southern (2-2, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) used McCray's 4-yard scoring toss to freshman Kendric Rhymes to grab a 7-3 lead after one quarter. In the Jaguars' big second quarter, Rhymes scored on runs of 8 and 29 yards. McCray hooked up with Cornelius Dyson for a 35-yard score and added a 36-yard touchdown run.

Corione Harris returned a Jalen Macon pass 62 yards for a score to give Southern a 42-3 lead at halftime. McCray stretched the Southern lead to 56-3 after three quarters with touchdown throws to Gregory Perkins covering 14 yards and a 10-yarder to Cassius Allen. McCray completed 14 of 18 passes for 241 yards with one interception for the Jaguars. Rhymes finished with 80 yards on 10 carries. Macon completed 12 of 21 passes for 134 yards with three interceptions for the Golden Lions. UAPB rushed for three yards on 20 carries.
