  Cole Kelley threw four touchdown passes and Southeastern Louisiana beat Florida A&M 38-14 on Saturday night in the first round of the Football Championship Series playoffs. Southeastern Louisiana (9-3) will move on to play third-seeded James Madison in the second round. Kelley tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Nolan Givan to cap a 98-yard drive early in the second quarter. Kelley's shovel pass to Taron Jones stretched the Lions' lead to 21-0 with 10 minutes remaining before halftime.

Kelley threw a strike to Nick Kovacs in the end zone for a 20-yard score that ended another long drive. Kelley then tossed a screen pass to Jones, who broke loose for a 39-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the Lions led 38-0. Kelley was 31-of-45 passing for 345 yards. Kovacs also had a 21-yard touchdown run to open the scoring. Jones finished with five catches for 85 yards and added 55 yards rushing.   2021 SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Cole Kelley, Southeastern,...A four-time Offensive Player of the Week, Kelley currently ranks among the top-10 in single-season conference history in completion percentage (1st, 74.2), total offense (3rd, 4,824), passing yards (5th, 4,382), completions (6th, 339) and touchdown passes (7th, 38). In conference play, he completed 240-of-324 passes (74.1 percent) for 3,180 yards, 28 touchdowns and just three interceptions.   Cole Kelley threw three touchdown passes and ran for a fourth in the first half and Southeastern Louisiana cruised to a 56-28 win over Northwestern State on Saturday. Kelly threw 39 yards to Anthony Spurlock on the Lions' opening drive, then punched it in from the 1 to make it 14-0 after one quarter, threw 38 yards to Gage Larvadain and hit Spurlock again from 9 yards out with four seconds left in the half for a 35-7 halftime lead. Kelley threw a fourth touchdown pass in the third quarter, hitting Damien Dawson from 35 yards out. Kelley finished 19 of 22 for 363 yards and four touchdowns without a turnover for Southeastern Louisiana (8-2, 6-1 Southland). Kaleb Fletcher was 22 of 36 for 226 yards and two touchdowns to lead Northwestern State (2-8, 2-5), but was picked off twice. Fletcher carried 20 times for 52 yards and two touchdowns.   Carson Camp connected with Jeremiah Webb on a 57-yard Hail Mary as time expired to help South Dakota beat South Dakota State 23-30 on Saturday. Camp eluded pressure from South Dakota State's three-man pass rush, and heaved it to about the 4-yard line where it was tipped several times. Webb outjumped teammate Caleb Vander Esch at the 1 and took a step into the end zone. Webb and his teammates rushed to the other side of the end zone in celebration. South Dakota (7-3, 5-2) won its second straight game against SDSU in the 115th edition of the series dating to 1889. Before the 2019 season, the teams did not meet last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, South Dakota had not beaten SDSU since 2000. Camp was 19-of-27 passing for 288 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for South Dakota. Nate Thomas rushed for 90 yards and a score.   Cole Kelley passed for two touchdowns and ran for another score and Southeastern Louisiana beat McNeese 23-20 Saturday night for the Lions' sixth consecutive win. Kelley threw a 1-yard TD pass to Damien Dawson late in the third quarter that capped a 12-play 77-yard drive that gave Southeastern Louisiana (7-1, 5-0 Southland Conference) the lead for good at 10-7. McNeese went three-and-out on its ensuing drive and, on the Lions' next play from scrimmage, Kelley dropped an arcing pass into the arms of Austin Mitchell who raced for a 77-yard touchdown and, after the PAT attempt was blocked, make it a nine-point lead.

The Cowboys (3-5, 2-3) again went three-and-out before forcing Southeastern Louisiana to punt but Brennon Dingle forced returner Mason Pierce to fumble and Anthony Spurlock recovered at the McNeese 21. Four plays later, Kelley powered his way into the end zone from 1 yard out on a designed run to give the Lions a 23-7 lead with 8:11 to play. Deonta McMahon scored on a 3-yard run and Cody Orgeron added a 7-yarder to pull McNeese within three points with 41 seconds left but Southeastern Louisiana recovered the onside kick to preserve the victory.   Cole Kelley completed 31-of-38 passes for 396 yards and five touchdowns and Southeastern Louisiana beat Houston Baptist 61-24 on Saturday. Kelley completed passes to 13 different receivers and spread his five scores across four recipients. Kelley threw two touchdowns to Austin Mitchell. The Lions (5-0, 3-1 Southland Conference), ranked 11th in the FCS, reached double-digit point totals in each quarter: 13, 21, 10 and 17. They outgained the Huskies (0-6, 0-3) in total yards 634-295. Southeastern Louisiana entered the game averaging 556.6 yards and 48.6 points per game while leading the nation in third down conversion percentage (58.1%). The Lions were 8 for 12 on third down.   Carson Camp threw two touchdown passes, Travis Theis had 29 carries for 113 yards and a score, and South Dakota beat Northern Iowa 34-21 on Saturday in battle between two of the top programs in the FCS. Camp was 16-of-20 passing for 153 yards with no interceptions. Nate Thomas, who finished with 14 carries for 59 yards, scored on a 2-yard run to give South Dakota (5-2, 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference) a 33-12 lead late in the third quarter.

A muffed punt by Northern Iowa (3-3, 1-2) - ranked No. 17 in the FCS coaches poll - deep in its own territory gave the Coyotes the ball at the 13 and three plays later Camp threw a 5-yard TD pass to Carter Bell to open the scoring with 1:11 left in the first quarter. After an interception by Daraun McKinney on the next play from scrimmage, Theis capped a five-play, 20-yard drive with a 4-yard TD run on the final play of the period. Theo Day completed 25 of 35 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions, and Victor McShane bounced off multiple defenders on a 62-yard scoring run, for Northern Iowa.   Carson Camp threw two touchdown passes and Mason Lorber added two field goals, including a 54-yarder in the fourth quarter, as South Dakota held off North Dakota 20-13 in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown Saturday afternoon. Camp fired seven yards to Caleb Vander Esch and Lorber converted from 37-yards out in the first quarter to put the Coyotes up 10-0. North Dakota's Tommy Schuster tossed a 14-yard scoring pass to Brock Boltmann to make it 10-7 after one quarter and neither team scored again in the first half. Camp hit Wesley Eliodor from 24-yards out to make it 17-7, but Brady Stevens kicked a 41-yard field goal to get the Fighting Hawks back within 17-10. Lorder pushed the lead back to 10 points with his 54-yard field goal and Stevens hit from 25-yards out with 5:52 left to set the final margin. Camp completed 16 of 23 passes for 179 yards for South Dakota (4-2, 2-1). Travis Theis carried 23 times for 138 yards.   Cole Kelley, the reigning Walter Payton Award winner, threw for 406 yards and five touchdowns as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Nicholls 58-48 in a Southland Conference free-for-all on Saturday. Kelley, for the second straight week, was also the Lions leading rusher with 14 carries for 55 yards and two more touchdowns. Southeastern Louisiana (4-1, 2-0 Southland Conference), ranked No. 14 in the FCS coaches poll, trailed 7-0 just 2-1/2-minutes into the game. But Kelley fired two straight touchdown passes - an 8-yarder to Nick Kovacs and 1-yard to Damien Dawson - before running into the end zone himself as the Lions grabbed a 21-7 lead and never trailed again.

Nursing a 52-42 lead midway through the fourth quarter, Kelley fired his fifth touchdown pass - a 28-yarder to Ivan Drobocky - while being wrapped up in an imminent sack. Lindsey Scott kept Nicholls (2-3, 1-1) in the hunt with 298 yards passing with three touchdowns as well as rushing 16 times for 108 yards and another TD. It was Scott's fourth-straight 100-yard rushing game. Dai’Jean Dixon had 11 catches for 171 yards for the Colonels, becoming just the 10th player in Southland history to reach 200 career receptions.   Carson Camp threw three touchdown passes, all in the second quarter, South Dakota's defense allowed just 205 yards and the Coyotes defeated Indiana State 38-10 on Saturday. Camp completed 19 of 26 passes for 200 yards. His scoring throws went to Brett Samson for 1 yard, Carter Bell for 47 yards, and Samson again for 10 yards. The Coyotes (3-2, 1-1 Missouri Valley) added fourth-quarter touchdown runs of 15 yards by Travis Theis and 27 yards by Nate Thomas, who finished with 111 yards on 11 carries. Anthony Thompson completed 16 of 24 passes for 135 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for the Sycamores (2-3, 0-2). Peterson Kerlegrand was their leading rusher with 11 carries for 24 yards. Kelley was 36-for-49 passing and overcame an interception on his first pass attempt of the game. McNeese turned the pick into a touchdown four plays later when Stephon Henderson ran in from the 1. Kelley knotted the score at 7-7 with a 13-yard scoring toss to Nick Kovacs on the Lions next possession and, after a McNeese three-and-out, Kelley ran in from the 1.

Southeastern Louisiana (3-1, 1-0), ranked No. 15 in the FCS coaches poll, had scored 40 points in a school-record seven straight contests dating to last season. The Lions, ranked third in FCS with 554.7 yards of offense per game, gained 546 on Saturday. McNeese (1-4, 0-2), after trailing by 17 at halftime, scored 28 points in the second half, pulling within 38-35 on Mason Pierce's run from the 3-yard line. The Cowboys tried an onside kick, but Southeastern Louisiana recovered and ran out the final 3:22, converting a fourth-and-1. Pierce had six catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Cody Orgeron went 14-for-23 passing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Orgeron also ran 13 times for 77 yards.   Carson Camp threw two touchdown passes and Michael Mansaray ran for 141 yards and two scores as South Dakota overpowered Cal Poly 48-14 in nonconference play on Saturday. Mansaray's TD runs came in the first quarter - from 13 yards out and on a 1-yard plunge - and sandwiched Camp's 54-yard scoring strike to Carter Bell as the Coyotes (2-1) took a 21-7 lead after one quarter. Two Mason Lorber field goals bookended Camp's 36-yard TD pass to Austin Goehring and a 3-yard TD run by Nate Thomas to push South Dakota's lead to 41-7 at halftime.

Cole Stenstrom's 2-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter capped the Coyotes' scoring. Camp completed 17 of 20 passes for 226 yards for USD. Thomas added 92 yards on 15 carries.
