Alabama defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher has entered the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz with AL.com. The news about the redshirt freshman broke on Wednesday night. Losing Sopsher is a hit to the Crimson Tide's defensive front, but it isn't devastating. After we saw true freshmen Jamil Burroughs and Tim Smith seeing reps against Georgia on Saturday, the writing was on the wall for the former top-50 prospect. There had been some buzz surrounding Sopsher and his development during the offseason, but the 6-foot-4, 310-pound interior defensive lineman couldn't turn success into on-field playing time. Now it looks like he'll continue his collegiate career elsewhere. Sopsher was rated as a four-star prospect. He was the nation's No. 47 overall prospect, No. 5 defensive tackle and No. 3 player from the state of Louisiana, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. - Birmingham News

A day after news broke that LSU defensive tackle Nelson Jenkins was opting out of the 2020 season, Jenkins announced on Twitter that he's decided to stay. LSU coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday that Jenkins informed the coaching staff that he was opting out, and, at the time, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound sophomore was not with the football team. "That's all I know," Orgeron said. "I haven't had contact with Nelson in at least two weeks." - Baton Rouge Advocate

LSU defensive lineman Nelson Jenkins has opted out of the 2020 season, coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday morning, which creates another depth hit to the Tigers' defensive front. The news comes a day after defensive tackle Neil Farrell returned to the team after he became the first LSU player to opt out in early August. Farrell is expected to at least be a key rotational piece and even push for a starting position. Orgeron said Jenkins informed the coaching staff that he was opting out, and, right now, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound sophomore is not with the football team. "That's all I know," Orgeron said. "I haven't had contact with Nelson in at least two weeks." Jenkins did not play in 2019, his redshirt freshman year, and his only game experience came when he recorded a tackle against Rice in 2018. A former defensive end, the Plaquemine High graduate moved to defensive tackle this offseason, when defensive coordinator Bo Pelini implemented a 4-3 scheme. Without Jenkins, LSU has available nine of the 11 defensive linemen listed on its official roster. - Baton Rouge Advocate
