  Geno Hess had 18 carries for 136 yards and scored three of Southeastern Missouri State's five rushing touchdowns as the Redhawks beat Tennessee State 42-0 Saturday night. Southeast Missouri State (7-2, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference) rebounded from a 27-23 loss to Eastern Kentucky to win for the seventh time in eight games. Hess scored on a 44-yard run less than 2 1/2 minutes into the game, added a 6-yard TD late in the first half and his 3-yard run with 9:59 left in the third quarter made it 28-0. Darrell Smith had a 50-yard touchdown run and Keveon Robbins added a scoring run from 20-yards out in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. He scored on touchdown runs of 29 and 4 yards in the first quarter (as SEMO opened up a 23-3 lead) and added a 54-yard score in the third quarter to cap the scoring for the Redhawks, who won their sixth-straight game.   OCT 24 OVC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Paxton DeLaurent, QB, 6-5, 215, So., Camdenton, Mo., Southeast Missouri,...DeLaurent had his fifth multiple passing touchdown game of the season, throwing for three scores and 201 yards in the Redhawks 51-16 road win at Northwestern State, its sixth-straight win. He had touchdown passes of 3 and 12 yards in the second quarter (as SEMO opened up a 37-3 halftime lead) and started the third quarter with a 19-yard touchdown. He also ran for 45 yards, averaging 5.0 yards/carry. This marks the sixth time this season he has been named OVC Newcomer of the Week.   Geno Hess ran for 207 yards and three touchdowns and Paxton DeLaurent threw for three more scores as Southeast Missouri State routed Northwestern State 51-16 in a nonconference game Saturday. Hess scored from 29 and 4 yards out in the first quarter as the Redhawks rolled to a 23-3 lead after one. DeLaurent hit Damoriea Vick and Johnny King with touchdown passes in the second quarter to put Southeast Missouri up 37-3 at intermission and added a 19-yard strike to Ryan Flournoy early in the third quarter to push the lead to 44-3. Scooter Adams pulled in a pass from Zachary Clement and scored from 84 yards out to get the Demons into the end zone in the third quarter, but Hess answered with a 54-yard run for a score to make it 51-10. The Redhawks (6-1) amassed 619 yards of offense. Clements led Northwestern State (3-5) with 305 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-38 passing and ran for 47 yards on 11 carries. - AP College Football

  OCT 3 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Geno Hess, RB, 5-8, 222, Sr., Peoria, Ill., Southeast Missouri,...Hess ran for a career-high 276 yards and four touchdowns as Southeast Missouri topped Lindenwood 49-28 in its OVC-opener. The 276 yards are the third-most by a FCS player this season and the second-highest total by an OVC player in the last 12 seasons (only SEMO's Marquis Terry had more - 311 in 2018). Hess carried the ball 24 times in averaging 11.5 yards/rush and also catch a 14-yard pass. The All-American scored on runs of 15, 14, 84 and 1 yards. In the process he broke SEMO's career records in total touchdowns (39) and rushing touchdowns (37). His 84-yard run in the fourth quarter was the ninth-longest nationally this season. He ran for 11 yards to score SEMO's final touchdown of the game after UCA made it a one-possession affair at the 10:57 mark in the fourth quarter. DeLaurent's passing touchdowns came on strikes of 62 and 14 yards in the second quarter.   SEPT 25 OVC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dalyn McDonald, RS, 5-11, 174, So., Gautier, Miss., Southeast Missouri,...McDonald became the first player in the OVC to return a kickoff for a touchdown this season in the Redhawks 35-27 win over Central Arkansas. After Central Arkansas scored to cut Southeast Missouri's lead to 21-17 with 1:29 left in the second quarter, McDonald ran back the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown (the first by a SEMO player in four years). His 97-yard return tied the second-longest kickoff return for a touchdown in program history, and the fifth-longest by a FCS player this season. McDonald finished the day with five kick returns for 182 yards and also added four punt return and six receiving yards to tally 192 all-purpose yards on the day.   SEPT 11 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER & NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Paxton DeLaurent, QB, 6-5, 215, So., Camdenton, Mo., Southeast Missouri,...DeLaurent, a transfer from Central Methodist, completed 33-of-44 passes for 332 yard and four touchdowns without an interception as Southeast Missouri won at No. 17 Southern Illinois by a 34-31 margin. His touchdown passes went for 6, 3, 4 and 2 yards, with two coming in the first half and the final two coming in the last six minutes of the fourth quarter. At one point, he completed 16 passes in a row. SEMO trailed, 31-21, when DeLaurent threw the game-winning touchdown, a two-yard pass to Damoriea Vick with 11 seconds left to play. He completed passes to nine different receivers and had the most passing yards in a game by a SEMO quarterback since 2018 (386, Daniel Santacaterina, at UT Martin).   Paxton DeLaurent threw three touchdown passes - two of them to Ryan Flournoy - to spark Southeast Missouri State to a 34-20 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. DeLaurent's touchdown passes spanned the second and third quarters and helped Southeast Missouri State (5-1, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) turn a 13-all tie into a 34-13 lead heading into the final quarter. Jeremiah Oatsvall connected with Davin Dyal for a 7-yard score to pull Tennessee Tech (1-4, 0-2) even at 13 with 2:44 remaining in the first half.

DeLaurent needed five plays to regain the lead for the Redhawks, tossing a 12-yard scoring strike to Flourney with 1:03 left. Trai Hodges picked off Oatsvall and returned it 49 yards to the Golden Eagles' 26-yard line. Two plays later DeLaurent hit Johnny King for a 7-yard score with 10 seconds left for a 27-13 halftime lead. DeLaurent's final touchdown throw was a 4-yarder to Flournoy for the only score of the third quarter. DeLaurent completed 22 of 33 passes for 266 yards. Flournoy caught five passes for 101 yards. Geno Hess carried 13 times for 88 yards and a touchdown. Oatsvall completed 27 of 48 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.   Geno Hess rushed for 278 yards and four touchdowns and Southeast Missouri State rolled to a 49-28 victory over Lindenwood on Saturday. DC Pippin kicked two field goals to stake Southeast Missouri State (4-1), ranked 24th in the FCS coaches poll, to a 6-0 lead after one quarter in its Ohio Valley Conference opener. Hess' first touchdown came on a 15-yard second-quarter run, pushing the Redhawks' lead to 13-0. Paxton DeLaurent connected with Johnny King for a 21-yard touchdown and hit Damoriea Vick for the 2-point conversion and a 21-0 lead.

Hess, who did his damage on 24 carries, added a 14-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to pass Walter Smallwood's (1965-68) touchdown record with the 37th of his career. Hess finished off his day with scoring runs of 84 and 1 yard in the fourth quarter. Smallwood's record stood for 54 years. DeLaurent completed 19 of 33 passes for 312 yards. King had eight receptions for 126 yards. Cade Brister threw for 346 yards on 28-of-44 passing with three touchdowns for Lindenwood (2-2, 0-2). He also ran for 108 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. SEMO piled up 684 yards of offense, 372 on the ground.
