2019 PRESEASON JOHN MACKEY AWARD WATCH LIST: Mitchell Wilcox, SR, USF,...USF senior Mitchell Wilcox was named to the 2019 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List on Friday, the award given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. It marked the third straight season for Wilcox (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) to be named to the Mackey Award Watch List and the seventh consecutive year USF has placed at least one tight end on the list. In addition, he is one of only four tight ends in the American Athletic Conference to make the watch list.

Wilcox appeared in 12 games last season and led all AAC tight ends with a USF single-season school record 540 receiving yards by a tight end on his way to earning All-AAC First Team accolades. He finished the season with 43 catches and set a USF single-season school record for receptions by a tight end. Wilcox reached the end zone twice in 2018 and had six games with at least four catches. He'll enter the 2019 season having already set a USF tight end record with 976 career receiving yards. He needs just four more receptions to own every USF tight end record as he enters his final campaign with 72 career catches. - South Florida Football

  06/24/19 - Darius SladerSr/2020, South Florida, 6-3, 251 (DS#78 DE) + More +

In even more class of 2019 news, Ohio State, and most recently, Arizona State transfer defensive end Darius Slade is enrolled at the University of South Florida, according to Nathan Bond of The Daily Stampede. Slade initially enrolled at Ohio State in 2014, and was a hot three-star recruit coming out of Montclair, New Jersey. After taking a redshirt in 2014, Slade got onto the field in seven games for Ohio State in the 2015 season but did not record anything on the stat sheet. Slade was a part of the 2015 National Championship team for the Buckeyes.

The following year, Slade sustained a lower leg injury in fall camp that sidelined him for the entire 2016 season. Slade then transferred to Arizona State, a school he initially committed to in 2013, where he had to sit out the 2017 season due to transfer rules. That 2017 season saw him as the co-defensive MVP for the scout team for the Sun Devils. Last season, Slade finally saw the field and some success at defensive end, registering eight tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble recover and recovery. His forced fumble and recovery was a monstrous play, showcasing his pass rushing ability. - The Daily Stampede
