Jordan Cronkrite ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns and South Florida rallied in the fourth quarter to beat BYU 27-23 on Saturday. The Cougars led 16-7 at halftime before Cronkrite ran it in from a yard out to reduce the margin. BYU responded with a 5-play, 70-yard drive in a little under two minutes and led 23-14 after Jaren Hall's 29-yard TD run. Early in the fourth, the Bulls' (3-3) Jordan McCloud ran it in from two yards out. Cronkrite closed out the scoring with a 3-yard run.

South Florida stiffened on defense after Hall's touchdown. First, the Cougars went three-and-out and gained a yard. BYU picked off South Florida on its next possession but went minus-8 yards in four plays before fumbling the ball away. A BYU missed field goal followed and the Cougars' final two possessions resulted in turnovers on downs. Hall led BYU (2-4) with 148 yards passing and 83 yards rushing. - South Florida/AP College Football

Jarren Williams threw for 254 yards and three scores, and the Miami Hurricanes gave rookie coach Manny Diaz his first victory by beating Bethune-Cookman 63-0 Saturday. Williams went 19 for 24 without a turnover or a sack, and his scoring passes covered 22 yards to K.J. Osborn, 32 yards to Michael Harley and 1 yard to Larry Hodges. Williams' longest throw was to Mark Pope for a 54-yard gain, and he departed late in the third quarter. DeeJay Dallas ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns. Miami outgained the Wildcats 590-137 and held them to four first downs.

The Hurricanes (1-2) won their home opener to bounce back from season-opening losses at Florida and North Carolina. With the victory, Miami avoided its worst start since 1975. Diaz, the Hurricanes' defensive coordinator from 2016 - 18, replaced Mark Richt after last season as head coach. Bethune-Cookman (1-1) remained winless in five games against Miami, all since 2011, with the defeats by a combined score of 232-37. The Hurricanes had nine touchdowns before Bethune-Cookman had its third first down. Dallas scored untouched on a 51-yard run, and scored twice on 1-yard runs. - Miami/AP College Football

Jarren Williams committed to Miami in 2017, then spent 2018 waiting for playing time that never came. In 2019, his turn has arrived. The Hurricanes have decided on their starting quarterback - and Williams got the nod, beating out incumbent starter N'Kosi Perry and highly touted Ohio State transfer Tate Martell for the job. Miami coach Manny Diaz made the announcement Monday, saying he still believes that the Hurricanes can win with any of those three quarterbacks.

"However, we feel like Jarren has the greatest upside due to his passing ability, his instincts and his determination," Diaz said. Williams appeared in just one game for Miami last season, completing one of three passes and rushing for a short touchdown. In a statement distributed by the school, Williams said "it means the world" to be Miami's starter. - AP College Football
