Jarren Williams informed Miami on Thursday that he is entering the transfer portal, a move that comes three days after former Houston quarterback D'Eriq King decided to join the Hurricanes. Williams started 10 of Miami's 13 games this past season, after beating out N'Kosi Perry and Tate Martell for the first-string job. But with King - the presumed starter for 2020 - arriving this week, it was presumed that some of Miami's incumbent quarterbacks would look elsewhere. Atlanta-based attorney Thomas Mars, who represents Williams, said the quarterback was going to fill out his paperwork to make the entry into the portal official on Thursday before he was delayed by his class schedule. Mars said Williams will finish the paperwork Friday. - AP College Football

Rhett Lashlee has been hired as Miami's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, immediately tasked with turning around the Hurricanes' offense after a lackluster 6-7 season. Miami announced the move, which will be completed once Lashlee completes a background check, on Saturday. Lashlee is joining the Hurricanes after two seasons of running a high-tempo offense at SMU, helping the Mustangs average 42.1 points per game this season - seventh-best out of the 130 teams at the FBS level. Miami averaged 25.7 points, 90th in the country. "Rhett has directed some of the most innovative offenses in college football in recent years - offenses that attack quickly, creatively and efficiently," Miami coach Manny Diaz said. "We are excited to see how Rhett will look to spread the ball around and utilize our athletes on the offensive side of the ball."

It's a significant hire for Diaz. Lashlee is a past finalist for the Broyles Award, presented to the top assistant in college football, and was one of 15 semifinalists for the award this season. He's been an offensive coordinator at SMU, Connecticut, Auburn, Arkansas State and Samford. He helped Auburn win the 2013 SEC Championship, earn a BCS Championship berth and then a trip to the 2016 Sugar Bowl. At Miami, he replaces Dan Enos. Miami fired Enos after just one season, after the Hurricanes were 98th nationally in total offense, 121st in rushing and 129th - again, out of 130 teams - in third-down conversions. - AP College Football

Tyrice Richie took a shovel pass in the Northern Illinois backfield, added an acrobatic flip over a would-be tackler near midfield and turned it all into a 71-yard touchdown to spark the Huskies to a 17-14 win over Western Michigan in the season finale Tuesday night. Michael Love tossed a 7-yard scoring pass to Mitchell Brinkman midway through the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Down 10-0 at intermission, LeVante Bellamy brought Western Michigan back with second-half touchdown runs of 6- and 16-yards. The victory moves the Huskies to 4-4 in the Mid-America Conference in Thomas Hammock's first season as head coach at his alma mater. Overall NIU finished 5-7, with a string of four straight losses early in the season to Utah, Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Ball State. NIU finished with 250 yards of total offense in the game. Richie's 71-yard catch made up most of the team's 93-yard passing total. Bellamy finished with 21 carries for 128 yards to lead Western Michigan (7-5, 5-3). - AP College Football

Jarren Williams broke a record. Jimmy Murphy thought he broke the Turnover Chain. Senior Day was a smashing success at Miami. Williams set a school record with six touchdown passes, Dee Wiggins and Mike Harley catching two apiece, and Miami clinched bowl-eligibility with a 52-27 win over Louisville on Saturday. "It's really why you come here," Williams said. "You come to The U to set records. You come to this place to do something no one else has done." Will Mallory and Deejay Dallas also had touchdown catches for Miami (6-4, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). Williams completed 15 of 22 passes for 253 yards, and the Hurricanes won their third straight. "We felt like a performance like this was coming," Miami coach Manny Diaz said.

Louisville quarterback Micale Cunningham threw for two scores and ran for another, before he left injured in the second half. Hassan Hall had a 58-yard touchdown run for the Cardinals (5-4, 3-3) and running back Javian Hawkins had 105 yards on 15 carries. Tutu Atwell had six catches for 142 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown on a catch-and-run for the Cardinals. "We had a lot of things go wrong today," Louisville coach Scott Satterfield said. Williams broke the single-game mark of five shared by six other Miami quarterbacks -- Bernie Kosar, Steve Walsh, Ken Dorsey, Brock Berlin, Kyle Wright and Stephen Morris. He also tied the single-game record for any ACC quarterback, done on seven other occasions. - Miami/AP College Football

Freshman Jarren Williams threw for a season-best 313 yards and two touchdowns as Miami won its third straight game against Florida State, 27-10 on Saturday. Williams connected with Dee Wiggins on a 56-yard touchdown and Jeff Thomas on a 39-yard score. Cam Akers had 22 carries for 66 yards. He also caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Alex Hornibrook. But the Seminoles managed just 31 rushing yards on 41 carries.

Deejay Dallas had 18 carries for 61 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown run for the Hurricanes (5-4, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). Freshman defensive end Gregory Rousseau had four of Miami's season-high nine sacks. The Seminoles (4-5, 3-4) had never before allowed nine sacks in a game. Miami has had an up-and-down season but secured a confidence-building win for Manny Diaz in his first year as head coach. Florida State coach Willie Taggart falls to 0-5 in rivalry games, losing four of them by double digits. The Seminoles fell at Clemson 45-14 on Oct. 12. - Miami/AP College Football
