  2022 PRESEASON MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): LB Brock Mogensen, South Dakota,...Mogensen is a returning junior who started all 12 games for South Dakota last season. He was the team's second-leading tackler with 86 tackles including 38 solo stops. Hailing from Farmington, Minnesota, Mogensen ranked eighth in the Valley in tackles per game and had a season-high 11 tackles in last year's playoff game against Southern Illinois.   2022 PRESEASON MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): DL Nick Gaes, South Dakota,...Gaes returns for his sophomore season along the defensive line after competing in all 12 games last year. The Alta, Iowa, native racked up two honors in his freshman campaign with a HERO Sports Freshman all-America team and MVFC all-Newcomer team selections. Gaes led the conference with seven solo sacks in Valley play and totaled 10 tackles-for-loss in 2021. He finished as the team's sixth-leading tackler with 35 stops. He had a season-high six tackles including two for loss and a blocked field goal at home against Illinois State last year. Bell set a program-record last season after hauling in a 91-yard touchdown reception in a road win at Western Illinois. He is a four-year starter and a two-time all-MVFC honoree along with a returning all-American and academic all-American. In 2021, the Cedar Falls, Iowa, native helped Brady Schutt set the program record for career punting average while also aiding Mason Lorber on 13 field goal makes. Godfrey and the Coyotes ranked 10th nationally in net punting last season. He made 39 consecutive starts at linebacker dating back to the first game of the 2018 season. He finished as the program's sixth-leading tackler with 327. Included in that tally are 5.0 sacks and 23.0 tackles for loss. He also caught 18 passes during the year for 154 yards. He finished with the eighth-most rushing yards amongst Valley backs and with the seventh-most touchdowns.   2021 ALL-MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): DL Jacob Matthew,...Matthew (Omaha, Neb.) led South Dakota in both sacks and tackles-for-loss for the third consecutive season. In three seasons under coordinator Travis Johansen, Matthew made 152 tackles with 13.5 sacks and 25.5 tackles-for-loss. He was the Coyotes' fourth-leading tackler this season with 71 stops including 7.0 sacks and 10.5 TFL. He concludes a five-year playing career with a program-record punting average of 43.2 yards per boot. Schutt has ranked fourth in the FCS in punting average each of the last two years. He is 10th this year with a 44.2 average due in part to a league-best 25 punts pinned inside the 20. No other Valley punter had a higher percentage of pins. He has been the snapper for the best punter in program history in Schutt, and helped Mason Lorber to 10 consecutive made field goals over weeks 2-9 and 13 field goals overall.   SEPT 20 MISSOURI VALLEY NOTABLE PERFORMANCE: PK Mason Lorber, South Dakota -- Lorber made two more field goals and all six extra points in helping South Dakota to a 48-14 win at Cal Poly Saturday. He was good from 20 yards at the start of the second quarter and made a 42-yarder on the final play of the first half that gave USD a 41-7 lead.
