  Aidan Bouman threw four touchdown passes, three to Larenzo Fenner, and South Dakota rolled to a 38-17 win over Drake on Saturday in the first round of the FCS playoffs. South Dakota (9-4), the 11th seed, plays at sixth-seeded Mercer in the second round on Dec. 6. Bouman connected with Fenner for a 23-yard touchdown in the second quarter to put the Coyotes ahead 10-3. Drake answered with a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Logan Inagawa to tie the game at 10, but L.J. Phillips' short run later in the quarter gave South Dakota a 17-10 halftime lead. Fenner caught touchdown passes of 27 and 18 yards from Bouman to extend the Coyotes' lead to 31-10 in the third quarter. Jack Martens added a 3-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. Bouman finished 15 of 20 for 261 yards, Fenner had five catches for 115 yards and Phillips rushed 14 times for 132 yards. (Racine-Horlick HS),...Fletcher had a breakout game for the Coyotes in the thrilling 53-51 win at (21) Southern Illinois. He led the team in carries (19) and rushing yards (104) in his first-career 100-yard rushing game, while pacing the USD rushing attack on the day. 12 of his carries came in the second half when the Coyotes found a way to score 20-unanswered points to take their first lead at 34-31 late in the fourth quarter.   WEEK 10 MISSOURI VALLEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DB DeJuan Lewis, South Dakota, Sr., Pearland, Texas,...For the second-straight week, Lewis recovered a fumble for the Coyote defense from his secondary spot - but this one was much bigger. A fumble in a large pile of bodies at the USD 20-yard line with North Dakota driving (USD leading 19-7), saw Lewis come out with the ball and disappear in a flash down the field for the 80-yard scoop-and-score as USD pushed their lead to 26-21, which proved to be the game winning touchdown on the day. It's the first scoop-and-score for South Dakota since Mi'Quise Grace did it against the Jackrabbits last season (2024). - Missouri Valley Football

  Larenzo Fenner caught six passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns, catching the game-sealing two-point try as South Dakota defeated Southern Illinois 53-51 in a five-overtime thriller on Saturday. The 22nd-ranked FCS Coyotes (8-4, 6-2 Missouri Valley) rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to take the lead with 1:10 left. Fenner caught his second touchdown with 4:06 left in regulation to tie it, and Will Leyland kicked a 32-yard field goal to make it 34-31 with 1:10 remaining.

The 23rd-ranked Salukis (6-5, 3-4) marched down the field and Paul Geelan connected on a field goal from the 36 to force overtime. Each team traded touchdowns through the first two overtime periods, with Southern Illinois scoring on the first play each time. Each team missed on their two-point tries in the third OT, each scored in the fourth, and South Dakota got a stop in the fifth to set up Fenner's game winner. Aidan Bouman was 21-of-30 passing for 300 yards and five touchdowns, while throwing one interception. Carson Fletcher rushed for 104 yards on 19 touches. For the Salukis, DJ Williams threw for 303 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception on 19-of-31 passing, and added 89 rushing yards on 16 carries. - AP College Football

  L.J. Phillips Jr. had a long touchdown run to cap the scoring early in the third quarter and South Dakota held South Dakota State scoreless in the second half to finish off a 24-17 upset victory between ranked FCS teams on Saturday. Phillips piled up 168 yards on 27 carries for South Dakota (7-4, 5-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference), ranked No. 25 in the latest FCS coaches poll while the Jackrabbits entered at No. 9. Phillips had the only score in the second half on a 32-yard run 3:36 into the third quarter.

South Dakota State (7-3, 3-3) jumped on top on the first play from scrimmage - a 75-yard touchdown run by Jack Smith for a 7-0 lead. Phillips tied it on a 10-yard touchdown run before Eli Stader kicked a 40-yard field goal to put South Dakota State up 10-7 after one quarter. Will Leyland tied it on a 34-yard field goal with 4:14 left in the second quarter and Aidan Bouman passed 19 yards to Larenzo Fenner for a touchdown and the Coyotes led 17-10 lead with 63 seconds left. That was enough time for Jack Henry to throw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Alex Bullock seven plays later to knot the score at halftime. Bouman completed 14 of 21 passes for 158 yards for South Dakota. Henry totaled 139 yards on 13-for-24 passing with an interception for South Dakota State. Smith led the Jackrabbits with 82 yards on three carries. - AP College Football

  L.J. Phillips Jr. rushed for 106 yards and added a touchdown, and Dejuan Lewis returned a fumble for a touchdown to lead South Dakota to a 26-21 victory over North Dakota on Saturday. South Dakota (6-4, 4-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) forced a safety to open the scoring and Phillips added a rushing touchdown early in the second quarter. The Coyotes then turned two Fighting Hawks turnovers into touchdowns.

Jerry Kaminski threw two interceptions in the first half. His second set up a 43-yard touchdown pass from Aidan Bouman to Larenzo Fenner with 45 seconds left for a 16-7 halftime lead. The Coyotes added a field goal, then turned a Sawyer Seidl fumble into a touchdown. Chris Dixon forced the fumble at South Dakota's 21-yard line, then Lewis scooped it and returned it 80 yards to make it 17 unanswered points. Kaminski was 16-of-30 passing for 177 yards with a rushing score. Seidl rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns, making it his fourth consecutive game with more than 100 yards rushing. It's the first MVFC loss of the season for the FCS coaches poll No. 10 Fighting Hawks (6-3, 4-1), after early season losses to Kansas State and Montana. - AP College Football

  WEEK 8 MISSOURI VALLEY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: PK Zeke Mata, South Dakota, 5-11, 200, R-Sr., San Marcos, Calif.,...Mata was the difference in the 17-14 victory at Northern Iowa. Right before the half, Mata drilled a 58-yard field goal to set a program record for longest field goal. The kick proved to be the game-winning score. It tied for the second-longest field goal ever made in MVFC history, one-yard behind the conference record. For Mata, he's now a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals in his career from 50+ yards with all three field goals being made from 50+ yards. - Missouri Valley Football

  Aidan Bouman threw two touchdown passes to Larenzo Fenner and South Dakota defeated Northern Iowa 17-14 on Saturday. Zeke Mata's school-record 58-yard field goal on the final play of the first half gave the Coyotes a 10-7 lead and Bouman's 67-yard hookup with Fenner made it 17-7 midway through the third quarter. Northern Iowa scored with less than a minute left in the game when Matthew Schecklman threw a 7-yard TD pass to Bill Jackson but South Dakota recovered the ensuing onside kick.

Bauman completed 16 of 24 passes for 202 yards and Fenner had 84 yards on three receptions for the Coyotes (5-3, 3-1 Missouri Valley Football Conference). Schecklman had two touchdown passes and was 22-for-40 passing for 189 yards. He led the Panthers (2-5, 0-3) with 60 yards rushing and JC Roque Jr. was the top receiver with 91 yards on seven catches. - AP College Football

  L.J. Phillips Jr. ran for 187 yards, Will Leyland kicked four field goals, and South Dakota defeated Indiana State 19-14 on Saturday. Phillips, the FCS leader in rushing yards, is closing in on 1,000 yards for the season. He has 986 yards on the ground, 913 coming in the last five games. Phillips carried 23 times for 123 yards in the first half and his 1-yard touchdown run helped lead the Coyotes to a 13-7 lead at the break.

Leyland made one field goal in each quarter, the longest coming from 42 yards for a 19-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Brock Riddle's short touchdown pass to Nick Osho with 4 1/2 minutes remaining made it 19-14 but the Sycamores turned the ball over on downs near midfield on their only remaining possession. Aidan Bouman completed 16 of 25 passes for 186 yards and the Coyotes (4-3, 2-1 Missouri Valley Football Conference) had 376 yards of total offense.   L.J. Phillips Jr. scored a career-high four rushing touchdowns and had 143 yards rushing on 19 carries as FCS No. 15 South Dakota rolled past Drake, 42-21 on Saturday. Phillips Jr.'s performance tied him for third in a single game for South Dakota (2-2), putting his name into the record books for a second straight week after a 301-yard performance against Northern Colorado.

Aidan Bouman threw for 226 yards on 13-of-20 passing and had two touchdowns. He connected with Larenzo Fenner twice, 70-yard and 31-yard touchdown throws, on back-to-back drives. Mikey Munn had a career-high two interceptions. The Coyotes are on a 10-game winning streak at home, have won six straight against Drake, and are 10-11 against the Bulldogs. Jackson Voth had six receptions for 85 yards for the Bulldogs (1-2). The record-setting performance sees him sit second-best in South Dakota history in rushing yards in a game, while setting a USD Division I FCS mark.
