  L.J. Phillips Jr. rushed for a pair of touchdowns, Mikey Munn made two of South Dakota's four interceptions and the 11th-seeded Coyotes blanked sixth-seeded Mercer 47-0 in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday. The Coyotes (10-4), participating in their fifth FCS playoffs, will play the winner of South Dakota State-Montana in next week's quarterfinals. Phillips scored on 16-and 15-yard runs, both set up by interceptions, and South Dakota led 24-0 at halftime. RJ Stewart and Gabriel Hardman also picked off passes and the defense had a safety. Phillips finished with 160 yards rushing and Carson Fletcher had 107. Aidan Bouman passed for 241 yards and became the school's career yards passing leader with 9,047 and threw touchdowns to Tysen Boze, a 63-yarder, and Larenzo Fenner, a 66-yarder. Fenner set a school record with 15 TD receptions this season. Braden Atkinson threw the four interceptions and finished with 148 yards passing.   Aidan Bouman threw four touchdown passes, three to Larenzo Fenner, and South Dakota rolled to a 38-17 win over Drake on Saturday in the first round of the FCS playoffs. South Dakota (9-4), the 11th seed, plays at sixth-seeded Mercer in the second round on Dec. 6. Bouman connected with Fenner for a 23-yard touchdown in the second quarter to put the Coyotes ahead 10-3. Drake answered with a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Logan Inagawa to tie the game at 10, but L.J. Phillips' short run later in the quarter gave South Dakota a 17-10 halftime lead. Fenner caught touchdown passes of 27 and 18 yards from Bouman to extend the Coyotes' lead to 31-10 in the third quarter. Jack Martens added a 3-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. Bouman finished 15 of 20 for 261 yards, Fenner had five catches for 115 yards and Phillips rushed 14 times for 132 yards. (Racine-Horlick HS),...Fletcher had a breakout game for the Coyotes in the thrilling 53-51 win at (21) Southern Illinois. He led the team in carries (19) and rushing yards (104) in his first-career 100-yard rushing game, while pacing the USD rushing attack on the day. 12 of his carries came in the second half when the Coyotes found a way to score 20-unanswered points to take their first lead at 34-31 late in the fourth quarter. Nearly half his yards (46 yards) came in the fourth quarter when the freshman put the team on his back and carried the Yotes down the field multiple drives in a row for the chance to come back and win the contest. - Missouri Valley Football

  WEEK 10 MISSOURI VALLEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DB DeJuan Lewis, South Dakota, Sr., Pearland, Texas,...For the second-straight week, Lewis recovered a fumble for the Coyote defense from his secondary spot - but this one was much bigger. A fumble in a large pile of bodies at the USD 20-yard line with North Dakota driving (USD leading 19-7), saw Lewis come out with the ball and disappear in a flash down the field for the 80-yard scoop-and-score as USD pushed their lead to 26-21, which proved to be the game winning touchdown on the day. It's the first scoop-and-score for South Dakota since Mi'Quise Grace did it against the Jackrabbits last season (2024). - Missouri Valley Football

  WEEK 8 MISSOURI VALLEY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: PK Zeke Mata, South Dakota, 5-11, 200, R-Sr., San Marcos, Calif.,...Mata was the difference in the 17-14 victory at Northern Iowa. Right before the half, Mata drilled a 58-yard field goal to set a program record for longest field goal. The kick proved to be the game-winning score. It tied for the second-longest field goal ever made in MVFC history, one-yard behind the conference record. For Mata, he's now a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals in his career from 50+ yards with all three field goals being made from 50+ yards. - Missouri Valley Football

  Aidan Bouman threw two touchdown passes to Larenzo Fenner and South Dakota defeated Northern Iowa 17-14 on Saturday. Zeke Mata's school-record 58-yard field goal on the final play of the first half gave the Coyotes a 10-7 lead and Bouman's 67-yard hookup with Fenner made it 17-7 midway through the third quarter. Northern Iowa scored with less than a minute left in the game when Matthew Schecklman threw a 7-yard TD pass to Bill Jackson but South Dakota recovered the ensuing onside kick.

Bauman completed 16 of 24 passes for 202 yards and Fenner had 84 yards on three receptions for the Coyotes (5-3, 3-1 Missouri Valley Football Conference). Schecklman had two touchdown passes and was 22-for-40 passing for 189 yards. He led the Panthers (2-5, 0-3) with 60 yards rushing and JC Roque Jr. was the top receiver with 91 yards on seven catches. - AP College Football

His longest field goal of the day was a 42-yarder in the fourth quarter, plus a pair of 32-yarder. His field goals proved to be the difference in the contest.   Charles Pierre Jr. ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns and South Dakota rolled past Division-II Northern State 45-3 in a season opener Thursday night. The Coyotes, coming off their most successful postseason run, got a 97-yard kickoff return from Kevondray Jones-Logan and a 52-yard field goal in the first quarter after Northern State scored its only points. Pierre had short scoring runs that came before and after a 55-yard punt return by Carter Bell in the second quarter for a 31-3 halftime lead. The Coyotes reached the FCS quarterfinals for the first time last season.

They have now beaten the Division-II Wolves in all nine of their meetings. Travis Theis added 86 of the Coyotes' 266 yards rushing and a 10-yard touchdown. L.J. Phillips Jr. finished the scoring with a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter. South Dakota outgained 351-207 in total offense.
