South Carolina's Bryan Edwards will end his career as the most prolific receiver in school history. Edwards already has a school-record 225 career receptions. He also has 2,955 yards receiving to put himself well within reach of Alshon Jeffery's career record of 3,042. His 21 touchdown catches are two off the school record shared by Sidney Rice and Jeffery. Edwards tied a school single-game record last week by catching 14 passes in a 24-7 triumph over Vanderbilt. - AP College Football

  11/03/19 - Bryan EdwardsSr/2020, South Carolina, 6-3, 212 (DS#16 WR) + More +

With one of their key playmakers out injured, South Carolina again turned to dependable "old man" Bryan Edwards. Edwards caught a school record 14 passes for a career best 139 yards to lead the Gamecocks (4-5, 3-4 Southeastern) to a 24-7 win that keeps South Carolina's season from skidding into a ditch for now. The senior shouldered the offensive load for the Gamecocks after receiver Shi Smith tweaked his hamstring this week and did not play. "He competes every down like it is his last down," South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said. "I've seen that for four years now."

Ryan Hilinski was 24-for-31 for 235 yards for the Gamecocks, including a 25-yard touchdown pass to Edwards midway through the fourth quarter that sealed the win. "He was hard to tackle," Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason said. "At times we knew the football was coming to him and we still had a hard time getting him down." Edwards' teammates call him "old man," in part because he is one of the few seniors on the offense and in part because he is a mature, calming presence in the locker room. That's been especially important in an up-and-down year that included an upset of No. 8 Georgia and second half collapses in losses to No. 6 Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee. "Everybody calls me `old man.' I haven't turned 21 yet," said Edwards, who also had a 38-yard punt return late in the third quarter that flipped the field a defensive struggle. - South Carolina/AP College Football

  10/25/19 - Tavien FeasterSr/2020, South Carolina, 5-11, 221 (DS#31 RB) + More +

South Carolina is planning to play this game without Rico Dowdle, who rushed for 140 yards against Tennessee last season but injured his knee against Florida last week. Dowdle has run for 457 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 5.9 yards per carry this season. The emergence of Tavian Feaster should give South Carolina confidence that it can continue running the ball effectively even without Dowdle. Feaster rushed for a career-high 175 yards on 25 carries against Florida. Feaster has run for a team-high 492 yards this season and is averaging 6 yards per carry. - AP College Football

South Carolina's football program was placed on probation for the next year by the NCAA for a former assistant coach's impermissible actions in recruiting a sophomore prospect in the spring of 2018. South Carolina reported the infraction to the NCAA, which considered it a Level II violation. The school and the NCAA handled it through the governing body's negotiated resolution process. The probation, which runs until Oct. 21, 2020, does not include any restriction on postseason competition, according to the NCAA. The violation involved impermissible texts and in-person contact between the ex-assistant and the high school sophomore. Neither were named in NCAA documents.

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said he is responsible for all facets of the program, including when things go wrong. "I recognize that a violation occurred within my program and I have taken substantial corrective actions to ensure that similar instances do not continue to occur," he said in a statement. In the offseason, Muschamp let go of two assistants in defensive line coach Lance Thompson and tight ends coach Pat Washington. John Scott Jr. came over from Arkansas to coach the defensive line while assistant Bobby Bentley was shifted to take over tight ends and former Georgia tailback great Thomas Brown was hired to coach running backs. The NCAA said South Carolina cooperated fully in the investigation. - AP College Football

  10/22/19 - Rico DowdleSr/2020, South Carolina, 5-11, 213 (DS#39 RB) + More +

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp doesn't expect injured starting tailback Rico Dowdle to play this week against Tennessee. Muschamp said Tuesday that Dowdle has a sprained right knee. Although, he moved around at practice, Muschamp was unsure that Dowdle would be healthy enough when the Gamecocks (3-4, 2/3 Southeastern Conference) travel to play the Vols (2-5, 1-3). Dowdle was hurt on the first play Saturday against Florida. Dowdle, a senior from Asheville, North Carolina, was helped to the sidelines before going to the locker room. He eventually returned to sidelines with a brace on the knee. Muschamp says the injury does not require surgery, meaning Dowdle will return "sooner than later." Dowdle has 457 yards and four touchdowns this season. - AP College Football

Israel Mukuamu returned the first of his three interceptions 53 yards for a touchdown and South Carolina took advantage of Jake Fromm's four turnovers to beat No. 3 Georgia 17-10 in double overtime on Saturday. Parker White's 23-yard field goal in the second overtime proved to be enough when Georgia's Rodrigo Blankenship was wide left on his attempt from 42 yards. Blankenship's second miss of the game sent South Carolina players charging onto the field to celebrate the upset. White missed a 33-yard attempt in the first overtime. "I had confidence that I was going to get to go out there and have a chance to win the game for us in the next overtime," he said.

Georgia (5-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) suffered a big hit to its national championship hopes. The Bulldogs, favored by 24½ points, could not overcome three interceptions and a lost fumble by Fromm, the senior quarterback known for avoiding mistakes. Fromm did not throw an interception in the Bulldogs' first five games. "You can't beat anybody when you have a 4-0 turnover margin," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. "We didn't force any on defense. We didn't cause any problems on defense and we didn't take care of the ball." - South Carolina/AP College Football

  09/29/19 - Rico DowdleSr/2020, South Carolina, 5-11, 213 (DS#39 RB) + More +

Rico Dowdle and Tavien Feaster like sharing the football, especially when it leads to South Carolina victories like this. Dowdle and Feaster, the Gamecocks' two senior tailbacks, both ran for more than 100 yards and accounted for three touchdowns as South Carolina (2-3, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) snapped a five-game series losing streak to Kentucky with a 24-7 victory Saturday night. Dowdle had 102 yards and a 30-yard TD while Feaster, the Clemson graduate transfer, had 107 yards and scoring runs of 2 and 19 yards in a dominant win over the Wildcats (2-3, 0-3). Many wondered how Dowdle and Feaster, both dynamic runners, would manage in the same backfield. They gave an emphatic answer against Kentucky. "He pushes me to be better. I push him to be better," Dowdle said. "I think it's working pretty well."

The Gamecocks also ended a run of six consecutive losses to Power Five opponents. And they did it just the way coach Will Muschamp wanted with an effective running attack. Dowdle surpassed the century mark for the second time in three games. But Dowdle appeared to injure his left leg less than two minutes into the fourth quarter and needed support to make the sidelines as the crowd chanted "Rico, Rico." - South Carolina/AP College Football

  09/06/19 - Nick MuserSr/2022, South Carolina, 6-5, 258 (DS#20 TE) + More +

South Carolina transfer tight end Nick Muse's eligibility waiver was granted by the NCAA on Friday, clearing him to play this season for the Gamecocks. Muse's father Tweeted out the news on social media and the school confirmed Muse's status. Muse is a 6-foot-3, 232-pound junior who played the past two seasons at William & Mary. He picked the Gamecocks over LSU and other schools when he decided to leave the Tribe.

Muse is the brother of Clemson starting safety Tanner Muse. The Gamecocks were hoping the NCAA would approve Muse playing right away because it has lost a pair of experienced tight ends in the past month. Expected starter Kiel Pollard gave up football when a cyst was discovered on his spine. Backup Evan Hinson left the program to play basketball at another school. - AP College Football
