  12/09/19 - Jake BentleyrSr/2022, South Alabama, 6-4, 225 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Last Monday, South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley officially announced he would enter the transfer portal and play his 2020 season elsewhere. Today, he announced where he'll be taking his talents for next year. The senior signal-caller posted on social media that he will be transferring to the University of Utah for his final season of college eligibility. As a grad transfer, he'll be able to play immediately with no waiting period. Utah was ranked as high as No. 5 this past season before falling to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game this past weekend. Bentley brings plenty of experience to the Utes offense. He leaves South Carolina with the fourth-most passing yards in program history (7527), the third-most passing touchdowns (55), and the second-highest completion percentage (62%). - ABC News Columbia

  12/02/19 - Jake BentleyrSr/2022, South Alabama, 6-4, 225 (DS#999 QB) + More +

South Carolina football was the place Jake Bentley grew from a freshman forced to play a year too early into a prolific SEC passer. Now he's moving on to finish that career as a graduate transfer, meaning he'll be eligible to play right away at whatever college he chooses. Bentley announced the news Monday, two days after the Gamecocks' 2019 season wrapped up. Said Bentley in a social media post: "The past 3 1/2 years have been incredible. I have met lifelong friends and made memories that I will never forget. However at this time, I believe that it is in my best interest to graduate on December 16th and transfer to play my final year of eligibility." Bentley only played in one game in 2019, having his season end in a Lisfranc foot injury. That sent what projected to be a final chapter of his career off the rails, putting four-star freshman Ryan Hilinski into the driver's seat of South Carolina's offense. - The State

  11/29/19 - Jalen TolbertrSr/2022, South Alabama, 6-2, 193 (DS#11 WR) + More +

Sophomore Jalen Tolbert caught five passes for a school-record four touchdowns, Rocel McWilliams came up with a game-saving sack and South Alabama snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 34-30 victory over Arkansas State on Friday. The Jaguars (2-10, 1-7) picked up their first Sun Belt Conference win in their season finale as Desmond Trotter tied a school record with four TD passes. Trotter completed 20 of 31 passes for 279 yards with an interception. Tolbert finished with 144 yards, topping the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career. His scoring catches went for 21 and 30 yards in the first quarter and 31 and 26 yards in the fourth quarter.

South Alabama took a 27-17 lead early in the fourth quarter after Trotter's third TD toss to Tolbert. But the Red Wolves (7-5, 5-3) scored on three straight possessions - a Layne Hatcher 1-yard TD run and two field goals by Blake Grupe - to take a 30-27 lead with 3:51 left in the game. Trotter answered with a nine-play, 61-yard drive that ended with TD pass number four to Tolbert for a 34-30 Jaguars' lead with 1:18 remaining. Arkansas State had one last shot after a 22-yard kickoff return by Jeff Foreman and a personal foul on South Alabama's Shawn Jennings gave the Red Wolves the ball at their own 40-yard line. But McWilliams sacked Hatcher on first down and teammate Jeffery Whatley recovered, allowing the Jaguars to run out the clock. Hatcher completed 23 of 38 passes for 342 yards and two TDs for Arkansas State, which saw a four-game win streak end. Kirk Merritt had nine catches for 121 yards. - AP College Football

  09/08/19 - Jake BentleyrSr/2022, South Alabama, 6-4, 225 (DS#999 QB) + More +

South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley will have season-ending surgery on his fractured left foot. Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp announced Bentley's decision Sunday. Bentley suffered a Lisfranc fracture in the foot on the final play of a 24-20 loss to North Carolina on Aug. 31 and was in a walking boot and using a scooter to get around on the sideline as South Carolina beat Charleston Southern 72-10 on Saturday. Muschamp said nothing has been determined about the senior's future other than he'll have surgery this week. Bentley thought about going pro last year before returning to the Gamecocks. He has not redshirted so he could come back to South Carolina or leave for a final season as a graduate transfer. - AP College Football
