The Aztecs lose all three starters - Keshawn Banks, Jonah and Justus Tavai - on the defensive line, so that is the biggest area of need for next season. At linebacker, SDSU loses starter Caden McDonald and potentially Michael Shawcroft, the team's tackle leader, who has not yet decided if he will return for his "COVID year" of eligibility. The Aztecs have only one senior on the offensive line - center Alama Uluave - but they are young at the position and could use an experienced transfer or two to improve themselves there.

At wide receiver, SDSU loses starter Tyrell Shavers and potentially Jesse Matthews, who, like Shawcroft, has a "COVID year" of eligibility remaining. Matthews has said he doesn't plan to make a decision until after the season. Four seniors - quarterback Jalen Mayden, safety Cedarious Barfield, cornerback Dallas Branch and kicker/punter Jack Browning - indicated in recent weeks that they would be returning to use their COVID year. - San Diego Union Tribune

Central Michigan freshman Bert Emanuel Jr. turned in the best rushing performance by a quarterback in three years when he ran for 293 yards against Buffalo in only his second collegiate game. The Chippewas' coaching staff had wanted to give some playing time to Emanuel, who can play up to four games and still preserve his redshirt. He ran 24 times and finished with 30 snaps in relief of Daniel Richardson in the 31-27 win Wednesday. Of his 293 yards, 274 came in the second half, and he scored on runs of 75, 87 and 1 yards. Emanuel's rushing total was highest by a quarterback since Navy's Malcolm Perry amassed 304 yards on 29 carries against Army in 2019. The week's only other 200-yard game was by Oklahoma's Eric Gray, who went for 211 on 25 carries against West Virginia. - AP College Football

NOV 14 MAC WEST DIVISION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bert Emanuel, Jr., Central Michigan, QB, Freshman, Houston, Texas,...Quarterback Bert Emanuel rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries for a 12.2 yards per carry average. The 293 yards rank as the fourth most rushing yards in a single game in school history and set a school-record for most single-game rushing yards by a quarterback in school history. The last time a Chippewa player rushed for 200 or more yards was Lew Nichols (219 yards) at Ball State on Nov. 17, 2021. Emanuel became the first player in college football this year to notch two runs of 75 yards or more.

He registered the longest run of his career, a 75-yard touchdown run up the middle on the first play of the second half, then he backed that up with an 87-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. The scores marked Emanuel's first and second career touchdown runs and were both Central Michigan's longest runs and offensive plays of the year. Emanuel scored a career-high three touchdowns on the day with runs of 75, 87 and the game-winning touchdown, a 1-yard run with 7:29 to play. The last time a player scored three touchdowns in a game was Lew Nichols at Ball State on Nov. 17, 2021. With Emanuel's 293-yard day, Central Michigan has now had a quarterback rush for over 100 yards in consecutive games (Jace Bauer, 109, vs. Bowling Green; Jace Bauer, 109 yards at Northern Illinois, and Emanuel, 293 yards vs. Buffalo). - MAC Football

Freshman quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr. rushed for 293 yards and the first three touchdowns of his career as Central Michigan rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat Buffalo 31-27 on Wednesday night. Emanuel, who saw his first game action the week before as part of a three-quarterback rotation, ran for a 75-yard touchdown on the Chippewas' first play from scrimmage in the the second half and tied the game at 24-all late in third quarter on an 87-yard run. On that run, he was pulled down on top of another Bulls defender but regained his footing before spinning away and taking off for the end zone. His 1-yard score midway through the fourth quarter gave Central Michigan (4-6, 3-3 Mid-American Conference) the lead.

Emanuel's 293 yards came on 24 carries in the absence of leading rusher Lew Nichols III, who missed the game with a toe injury. Cole Snyder was 19-of-32 for 191 yards with an interception for Buffalo (5-5, 4-2). Ron Cook ran for 100 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown. The Bulls had 204 yards rushing in the first half but just 36 in the second. Buffalo's Shaun Dolac, the nation’s leader with 68 solo tackles, added nine more, though Wednesday he was bested by Central Michigan’s Thomas Incoom, who had 10. Alex McNulty kicked two field goals to become Buffalo’s single-season record holder with 18. - Central Michigan/AP College Football
