Despite having three seasons of eligibility remaining, he is entering his fourth season of college football, giving him deceiving experience in the middle of the defense. Stewart came to Rhode Island in 2020 and has started 13 of a possible 14 games since his arrival. Last season he led the team with 88 tackles and was second with seven pass breakups.   2021 ALL-NORTHEAST CONFERENCE FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): RB Malik Grant, Sacred Heart, Jr.,...Grant ranks third in the country and leads the conference with 121.7 yards per game and 1,288 total yards. In addition, his 129.82 all-purpose yards rates 13th. Grant has crossed the goal line 11 times, which is tops in the NEC and 32nd nationally. Named NEC Offensive Player of the Week five times, Grant burst onto the national scene against Merrimack with 228 yards, the sixth-highest single-game total in school history and the 10th-best in the FCS this year.   2021 ALL-IVY LEAGUE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): Jordan Colbert, Columbia (Sr., DB - Washington, D.C.),...Colbert is a Washington, D.C. native who came on strong at the end of the season as he made 24 tackles in the last three contests at free safety for the Lions. A hard hitter and playmaker, Colbert ranked No. 4 on the Lions in total tackles with 49 (25 solo), registered two interceptions, broke up five passes, and recovered a fumble. He ranked No. 24 in the Ivy League in tackles. In his two-year, 20-game career, Colbert has totaled 68 tackles (39 solo) with 1.0 tackle for loss, two interceptions, and six pass breakups.   2021 ALL-CAA FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): Nick Correia, Rhode Island, OL, So.,...Guard Nick Correia, cornerback Jordan Jones and outside linebacker L.B. Mack III both earned second-team honors. Guard Evan Lovell was a third-team selection. Correia and Lovell both started all 11 games at the guard spots. Correia was the right guard, while Lovell manned the left side.   2021 ALL-CAA FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Coby Tippett, Rhode Island, PR, Sr.,...Tippett made the all-conference team for the third straight season, this time earning honors at two different positions. He was the first-team punt returner after leading the CAA and finishing sixth in the country with 12.6 yards per return. He had two returns of 50 yards or longer, including a 50-yarder that proved to be the game winner at UAlbany, which earned him CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week honors. He ranked fifth in the league in sacks and seventh in TFLs, while also finishing fourth on the team with 51 total tackles. In URI's win over Delaware, Mack returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. He was the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week after recording 4.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks in a win at Massachusetts.   2021 NEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): RB Malik Grant, Sacred Heart,...Grant could not have been a better backup plan when Sacred Heart lost All-American Julius Chestnut for eight weeks to an injury. The Empire State product stepped right in and carried the load for the NEC's top-ranked rushing attack. The 5-foot-7 running back rushed for 1,288 yards during the regular season, accounting for the third-highest total amongst Division I FCS leaders. Grant, who averaged 117.1 yards per game on the ground, broke the 100-yard rushing barrier in six of his 10 starts. He gained 5.7 yards per carry and found paydirt 11 times total (9 rush, 2 rec).

Grant rushed for more than 180 yards in three consecutive Northeast Conference contests during the Pioneers' active six-game win streak. He piled up 228 yards on 28 carries in a 20-10 victory over Merrimack, breaking into the NEC's All-time Single-Game Top 25 with the performance. The junior running back gained 211 yards from scrimmage in a Week 7 triumph over Nutmeg State rival Central Connecticut. In Week 8, he rushed for 186 yards and two scores against Duquesne in a re-match of the 2020-21 NEC Spring Championship Game. - NEC Football

  Kasim Hill threw four touchdown passes - two of them to freshman running back Jaylen Smith - and Rhode Island cruised to a 28-3 victory over New Hampshire in Colonial Athletic Conference play on Saturday. Hill connected with Smith for an 81-yard scoring strike on Rhode Island's third play from scrimmage as the Rams (7-3, 4-3) grabbed a 7-0 lead. Hill hooked up with Matt Pires for a 6-yard score with 1:38 left before halftime for a 14-3 lead. Hill and Smith teamed up for a 2-yard TD in the third quarter. Hill fired a 20-yard scoring strike to Ivory Frimpong in the fourth to cap the scoring. Hill completed 12 of 23 passes for 221 yards. Smith ran for 117 yards on 18 carries and caught three passes for 88 yards. Bret Edwards connected on 10 of 16 passes for 85 yards for the Wildcats (3-7, 2-5). Backup Tommy Herion was 5-of-15 passing for 50 yards with a pick. New Hampshire managed just 159 yards of offense.   Kasim Hill threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more and FCS-member Rhode Island picked up its second-ever win over a FBS school with a 35-22 win over UMass on Saturday. It was the 89th meeting between the schools, dating to 1903, but the first time they've played since 2011 when the Minutemen began the transition up. The Rams beat UConn for its other FBS win on Nov. 11, 2000. Hill's fourth score, a 2-yard run that capped an 80-yard drive, and Jaylen Smith's 72-yard burst in the in the third quarter broke the game open as the Rams (6-3) went up 35-16. Hill was 11 of 20 for 169 yards and ran for 32 more. Jaylen Smith had 16 carries for 111 yards. Joey Kenny and Ed Lee had receiving touchdowns. Ellis Merriweather carried the ball 30 times for 118 yards with a touchdown for the Minutemen (1-8). Tyler Lytle threw for a touchdown and ran for one. - AP College Football

The Pioneers (5-3, 3-1 Northeast Conference) took a 14-13 lead in the third quarter when Grant went up the middle for a 6-yard touchdown. He capped the scoring with a 1-yard plunge in the fourth. The Dukes (4-2, 2-1), who entered as the last unbeaten team in the league, led 13-7 at the half but did not pick up a first down in the second half and had 24 yards of offense. Sacred Heart had 17 of its 28 first downs in the second half and 213 of its 416 yards of total offense. Garrett Owens ran for 113 yards and scored Duquesne's only touchdown. - AP College Football
