Aidan O'Connell has a knack for leading game-winning drives. He engineered his second in as many weeks with help from kicker J.D. Dellinger. O'Connell threw for 271 yards and Dellinger kicked a 39-yard field goal with three seconds left Saturday as Purdue beat Northwestern 24-22 to keep its bowl hopes alive. O'Connell, a former walk-on, made his first start after Elijah Sindelar (broken left collarbone) and Jack Plummer (broken right ankle) went down with injuries. He guided the go-ahead drive late after Wildcats kicker Charlie Kuhbander's 32-yard field goal bounced off the left upright.

David Bell made 14 catches for 115 yards and a score as the Boilermakers rallied from down 14-0 in the first quarter. Northwestern lost its seventh straight, while Purdue beat the Wildcats for the first time since 2010 after losing five in a row. O'Connell quarterbacked the winning drive last week against Nebraska, and he came through again. "It wasn't a pretty game, and we had some moments where we looked really bad," Purdue coach Jeff Brohm said. "But we hung in there, and that has kind of been the sign of our team." Northwestern (1-8, 0-7 Big Ten) scored more points than in its four previous games combined, as receiver-turned-tailback Kyric McGowan rushed for 146 yards and a score. - Purdue/AP College Football

David Bell scored the go-ahead touchdown from nine yards out with 1:08 to play, and Purdue beat Nebraska 31-27 on Saturday. The Boilermakers (3-6, 2-4 Big Ten) took the lead for good after starting quarterback Jack Plummer left the game with a right ankle injury -- the latest player to be sidelined on a team plagued by injuries. Head coach Jeff Brohm said Purdue will likely be without Plummer for the remainder of the season after he needed help off the field following a run-play injury with 7:55 remaining. Plummer finished 25-of-34 passing with 242 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, and he rushed 61 yards on 12 carries.

The Boilermakers lost quarterback Elijah Sindelar (broken left collarbone) and All-American receiver Rondale Moore (left hamstring) four games ago and have lost three games since, making Saturday's win that much better. "It was a big win for our team today," Brohm said. "It has been rough at times this year. If you want to win, it's not supposed to be a whole lot of fun. We've made mistakes this year. We've been hard on our guys and quite demanding a bit. But you have to back off and allow these guys to play and make mistakes. - Purdue/AP College Football

The Indianapolis native has topped the 100-yard mark three times in four games since Moore got hurt and has 22 catches for 235 yards and three touchdowns the last two weeks.   09/30/19 - *Rondale MoorerSo/2021, Purdue, 5-09, 181 (DS#8 WR) + More +

The Purdue Boilermakers got a double dose of bad news Monday. Starting quarterback Elijah Sindelar will miss multiple weeks with a broken left collarbone and All-American receiver Rondale Moore will sit out Saturday at No. 12 Penn State with a left leg injury. "It's too early to tell," Brohm said Monday when asked if Sindelar's injury would end his season. "He will be out an extended period of time." Sindelar was undergoing surgery as Brohm spoke to reporters at his weekly news conference. Brohm didn't provide even a hint of Moore's prognosis, instead saying he hoped to obtain more information later. "We hope it's not (season-ending or long term)," Brohm said.

The Boilermakers (1-3, 0-1 Big Ten) started this year with momentum and rising expectations thanks in large part to having a healthy, strong-armed, experienced quarterback paired with one of the nation's most electrifying playmakers. One play in last weekend's loss to Minnesota may change everything. Sindelar suffered his injury on a sack when his left shoulder was driven into the ground. Down the field, Moore got shoved by a Minnesota player while running a pass route, appeared to stumble and then took an awkward step as he tried to regain his balance before falling to the ground. Moore went into the medical tent for about 10 minutes before he was carted to the locker room. - AP College Football

  09/23/19 - Elijah SindelarrSr/2020, Purdue, 6-3, 225 (DS#55 QB) + More +

Purdue quarterback Elijah Sindelar already has spent two weeks going through the concussion protocol. He's going to need better results this week to be cleared for Saturday's Big Ten opener against Minnesota. Coach Jeff Brohm indicated Monday that Sindelar suffered a setback late last week that could keep the Boilermakers' starter out for a second straight game. "We're still doing exactly what the doctors say," Brohm said during his weekly news conference. "I think he's making progress. We'll see how this week goes. Really last week we thought he was making progress Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, it wasn't until Thursday where some things popped up again, and that's where we had to start the process over."

Sindelar was injured on Purdue's final offensive play in a 42-24 victory over Vanderbilt on Sept. 7. Brohm acknowledged later Sindelar probably wouldn't have finished that game if the Boilermakers (1-2) had another possession. At the time of the injury, Sindelar led the Football Bowl Subdivision with 932 yards passing and was tied for the national lead in touchdown passes with nine. Doctors didn't clear Sindelar in time to face TCU the following week - and the difference was noticeable. Redshirt freshman Jack Plummer made his college debut in the 34-13 loss, going 13 of 29 with 181 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions and will likely start again if Sindelar can't play against the surging Golden Gophers (3-0), who have won five straight and six of seven - a stretch that began with last year's 41-10 rout over the Boilermakers. - AP College Fotball

  09/10/19 - Elijah SindelarrSr/2020, Purdue, 6-3, 225 (DS#55 QB) + More +

Purdue coach Jeff Brohm may need to use his backup plan Saturday against TCU. Brohm said starting quarterback Elijah Sindelar has been diagnosed with a concussion. Sindelar went to the team's medical tent Saturday after the Boilermakers' final offensive play, his 7-yard run on third-and-14 during a 42-24 victory over Vanderbilt. "I think it was a concussion, a slight concussion that we'll monitor and see how he passes all the tests and go through the proper protocol," Brohm said Monday. "Hopefully, we'll get him back if he's ready to go."

Sindelar has played through pain. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the first half of a 2017 game against Northwestern. Sindelar finished the game, led the Boilermakers to wins each of the next two weeks to become bowl-eligible and then was selected the Foster Farms Bowl offensive MVP in a victory over Arizona.

  09/07/19 - Elijah SindelarrSr/2020, Purdue, 6-3, 225 (DS#55 QB) + More +

Purdue senior quarterback Elijah Sindelar and speedy sophomore Rondale Moore are developing into a powerful duo. Sindelar passed for 509 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another TD in the Boilermakers' 42-24 victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday. Purdue caught 13 passes for 220 yards, both career highs. "Our offense made a lot of big plays in the passing game so credit to Elijah, Rondale and the receiving corps," Purdue coach Jeff Brohm said. "My view is pretty high of Rondale so I don't know if it can get much higher. But for someone to continually come through every week and raise the bar and not be satisfied, that's Rondale Moore. He was tremendous (Saturday)." Moore took his career day in stride. "I'm just going out there and doing my job," he said. "Whether that's getting someone else open or me being the first read on the play."

Tight end Brycen Hopkins, from Nashville, caught two touchdown passes. "That's probably the best game I've seen Elijah throw the rock," Hopkins said. "He was zipping it in there when he needed to, he was putting air under it when he needed to. He knows what he's doing and I put my trust in him." The Boilermakers (1-1) scored quickly after taking the second-half kickoff to take a 21-10 edge. Jared Sparks hauled in a wide-open 50-yard TD pass from Sindelar as one Vanderbilt defender fell down on the coverage. It was junior Sparks' first TD and the longest catch of his career. Sindelar's 20-yard TD pass to, pushed the lead to 28-10. The play was set up after a 15-yard penalty for helmet targeting by Vanderbilt cornerback Randall Haynie, who was disqualified. - AP College Football
