  10/11/25 - Drew AllarSr/2026, Penn State, 6-5, 235 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Drew Allar came back to Penn State for his senior season determined lead the Nittany Lions to a national championship. Now, with hopes of bringing the Nittany Lions their first NCAA football title since 1986 gone after a third-straight loss, the strong-armed quarterback will have to watch from the sidelines the rest of the way. Allar suffered an apparent leg injury on a third-down play late in Penn State's 22-21 loss to Northwestern on Saturday. He limped off the field with help, was replaced by backup Ethan Grunkemeyer and ruled out for the rest of the season. "Drew will be done for the year," Penn State coach James Franklin said. Allar's injury - not specified by the team - capped a three-week stretch in which the Nittany Lions fell from No. 2 in the Top 25 after losing in overtime at home to No. 3 Oregon, getting pounded by a previously winless UCLA team last week and being outplayed by Northwestern in front of another restless crowd at Beaver Stadium.

That crowd was noticeably smaller, too, as large sections of the vaunted, 40,000-seat student section were barren all night. Wide receiver Devonte Ross, who transferred to Penn State last summer to play with Allar, was sullen afterward. "I love Drew," Ross said. "That's unfortunate. It's a tough situation just knowing him as a person and knowing how much football means to him, how much this team means to him, it's tough but I know it's next man up." The Nittany Lions (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten), will have to find some answers and will now turn to Grunkemeyer to try and lead them to a bowl game. They have to play at Iowa next week and still have trips to No. 1 Ohio State and Michigan State. A home game against No. 7 Indiana looms, too. Allar ends his Penn State career fourth on the school's career passing yardage list with 7,265 yards on 620-for-982 passing with 61 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. - AP College Football

  10/05/25 - Drew AllarSr/2026, Penn State, 6-5, 235 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Penn State took one of the biggest falls in the 89-year history of the poll for its loss at previously winless UCLA a week after the Bruins fired their coach. The Nittany Lions had slipped from No. 2 to No. 7 following their loss to Oregon. They went to UCLA as 24.5-point favorites, according to BetMGM Sportsbook, and lost 42-37. Penn State is unranked for the first time since September 2022. The plunge out of the Top 25 matched 1959 Oklahoma for second-biggest drop out of the rankings, not counting preseason polls or the 2020 pandemic season. The '59 Sooners went from No. 2 to out of the Top 20 after losing their opener to Northwestern. Texas lost at Ohio State as the preseason No. 1 and was No. 9 entering its game at Florida. The Longhorns' 29-21 loss at the Swamp sent it tumbling out of the Top 25. They hadn't been unranked since November 2022. Before Sunday, the last time two top-10 teams fell out of the poll the same week was Sept. 16, 1986, when it happened to No. 8 Tennessee and No. 10 Ohio State. - AP College Football

Rocco Becht rushed for three touchdowns and threw for 243 yards, Carson Hansen ran for two scores and No. 14 Iowa State beat Arizona 39-14 Saturday night. Chase Sowell caught four passes for a career-high 146 yards, including receptions of 43, 32 and 52 yards. Becht completed 14 of 20 passes for the Cyclones (5-0, 2-0 Big 12), who led 36-7 midway through the third quarter. His nation-leading streak of consecutive games with a touchdown ended at 22. The teams were meeting for the first time since 1968, with Iowa State beating the Wildcats (4-1, 0-1) for the first time since 1958. Tight end Ben Brahmer had one of the game's highlights when he took an inside handoff and passed 45 yards to Brett Eskildsen to set up Becht's third 1-yard touchdown run. Noah Fifita was 32 of 48 for 253 yards and two touchdowns for Arizona. - Iowa State/AP College Football

  09/13/25 - Drew AllarSr/2026, Penn State, 6-5, 235 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Drew Allar threw for 209 yards and a touchdown and No. 2 Penn State got another near flawless effort from its defense in a 52-6 win over Villanova on Saturday. Nicholas Singleton ran for two touchdowns, Kaytron Allen added another, Trebor Peña caught a touchdown, and Ryan Barker kicked three field goals. Linebacker Tony Rojas had two sacks for the Nittany Lions (3-0) who came one play shy of posting back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1996. Penn State scored two first-half touchdowns against FCS Villanova but the Nittany Lions settled for a pair field goals by Barker and punted twice despite outgaining Villanova 252-69. Singleton scored the game's first points through the middle of Villanova's defense for a 4-yard touchdown with 8:48 to play in the first quarter. Barker turned a short field into a 45-yard field goal after a shanked Villanova punt early in the second. He added a 28-yarder two possessions later to make it 13-0. The Wildcats (1-1) were forced to juggle quarterbacks early. Starter Pat McQuaide appeared injured when Rojas sacked him on Villanova's opening possession.

Tanner Maddocks took over, but each of Villanova's next three chances ended in punts. McQuaide returned and went 7 for 15 for 27 yards and an interception. Allar capped the first half with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Peña, then found him again a 2-point conversion to push Penn State's lead to 21-0 at halftime. The second half was all Penn State. Barker kicked a 42-yard field goal before Singleton bulled into the end zone for a 3-yard score on Penn State's next opportunity. Later, Allen eluded the Wildcat defense for a 13-yard touchdown before backup quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer threw to tight end Joey Schlaffer for a 19-yard score. Jahmir Joseph returned an interception 49 yards for a TD in the fourth. Villanova broke the shutout when Brandon Binkowski made a one-handed, 3-yard touchdown catch on the final play. - Penn State/AP College Football

  09/13/25 - Rocco BechtrJr/2027, Penn State, 6-1, 210 (DS#4 QB) + More +

Rocco Becht threw for 265 yards and had passing and rushing touchdowns as No. 14 Iowa State escaped with a 24-16 win over Arkansas State on Saturday. Abu Sama III ran for a 4-yard touchdown with 8:34 left to give the Cyclones (4-0) some breathing room after the Red Wolves had closed within 17-16. Carson Hansen rushed for 116 yards on 18 carries for Iowa State, and Sama had 69 yards on nine attempts. Jaylen Raynor threw for 222 yards and rushed for 83 for Arkansas State (1-2), which had consecutive touchdowns nullified by penalties early in the fourth quarter and had to settle for a 40-yard field goal from Clune Van Andel — his third of the game — that got the Red Wolves within one.

Becht, who struggled in the third quarter, completed four passes for 57 yards in a drive capped by Sama's touchdown run. The Cyclones were coming off an emotional 16-13 win over rival Iowa. The Red Wolves kept it close in the first half. Raynor's 3-yard touchdown run gave Arkansas State a 10-9 lead with 39 seconds left in the half, the first time Iowa State had trailed this season. The advantage lasted less than 30 seconds. Becht connected with Dominic Overby for a 27-yard touchdown, and his 2-point conversion pass to Hansen gave the Cyclones a 17-10 halftime lead. It was Becht's 22nd straight game with a scoring pass, a program record. - Iowa State/AP College Football

  09/06/25 - Drew AllarSr/2026, Penn State, 6-5, 235 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Drew Allar completed 19 of 33 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns and No. 2 Penn State beat Florida International 34-0 on Saturday. Devonte Ross and Khalil Dinkins caught touchdown passes, Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton ran for scores and Ryan Barker kicked two field goals for the Nittany Lions (2-0), who shook off a sluggish first half and beat their second-straight Group of Five opponent. Linebacker Tony Rojas made 10 tackles, Alonzo Ford intercepted a pass and Penn State's defense notched its first shutout since a 56-0 win over Kent State last year. Initially, neither offense could sustain a possession as steady rain pounded Beaver Stadium's natural grass early. The Panthers (1-1) punted twice, had another punt blocked, turned the ball over on downs and had a solid drive spoiled in Penn State's end when Ford picked off an errant Keyone Jenkins screen pass. But, Penn State couldn't turn the Panthers' miscues into points.

The Nittany Lions gave it away on downs twice, punted once and had a field goal blocked in the first half. They were able to convert on their second possession late in the second quarter when Dinkins hauled in a 9-yard touchdown pass from Allar. Barker added a 41-yard field goal later in the second as the rain slowed. He was blocked on a 53-yard try nine plays later by Jessiah McGrew as Penn State went into halftime with a 10-0 lead. The Nittany Lions got a 34-yarder from Barker that made it 13-0 early in the second half. Allar and Ross made it 20-0 on Penn State's next possession when Ross sprinted for the corner of the end zone and battled through Ashton Levells' pass interference to catch a 42-yard touchdown pass with 4:44 left in the third. Allen finished with 144 yards on 16 carries, including a 67-yard touchdown in the fourth. Singleton scored from 5 yards out with 1:19 to play. - Penn State/AP College Football

Nicholas Singleton ran for two touchdowns, Penn State forced three turnovers and the No. 2 Nittany Lions pulled away to beat Nevada 46-11 on Saturday in the opener for both teams. Singleton capped Penn State's opening possession with a 1-yard run then scored on another short plunge early in the third quarter. Kayton Allen cut around the defense for a 13-yard score in the second. Nevada had already self-destructed by then. Penn State cornerback AJ Harris recovered Ky Woods' fumble to spoil the Wolf Pack's opening drive. Their next possession ended when defensive tackle Zane Durant intercepted Chubba Purdy's pass deep in his own end.

Ryan Barker kicked four field goals for the Nittany Lions, who led 27-3 at halftime after Kyron Hudson hauled in a 31-yard touchdown pass from Drew Allar with 23 seconds left in the second quarter. Hudson caught six passes for 89 yards, and Trebor Peña added seven for 74. Penn State outgained Nevada 436-203 and held the Wolf Pack to 78 rushing yards. Fifty of Nevada's yards came on its final possession. Joe McFadden kicked a 28-yard field goal for Nevada, but the offense only managed two more trips into the red zone. Purdy misfired over the middle on fourth down with 14:47 to play, but backup AJ Bianco connected with Marcus Bellon for a 9-yard score with 25 seconds left. - Penn State/AP College Football

Rocco Becht threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns, two to tight end Benjamin Brahmer, and No. 22 Iowa State defeated South Dakota 55-7 on Saturday. Iowa State (2-0), which beat Kansas State 24-21 in Ireland last week, opened with back-to-back wins for the fourth time under coach Matt Campbell. Becht completed his first 14 passes and finished 19 for 20, a school-record 95%. He threw a touchdown pass in a program-record 20th straight game.

Kyle Konrardy set the school record for longest field goal with a 63-yarder as time expired in the first half. Konrardy's kick was second-longest in Big 12 history behind Martin Gramatica's 65-yarder for Kansas State in 1998. Brahamer caught seven balls for 47 yards and tight end Gabe Burkle had four catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Iowa State's Dylan Lee led all rushers with 81 yards and a touchdown, all in the second half. South Dakota's only touchdown came on a 6-yard pass from Aidan Bouman to Larenzo Fenner in the first quarter. Bouman, who spent his first two years at Iowa State, was 15 of 29 for 126 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Rocco Becht passed for two touchdowns and ran for another score, helping No. 22 Iowa State beat No. 17 Kansas State 24-21 in the Aer Lingus Classic on Saturday. Becht was 14-for-28 for 183 yards. He found Dominic Overby for a 23-yard TD in the first quarter and passed to Brett Eskildsen for a 24-yard score in the third quarter. With 2:26 to go, Iowa State went for it on fourth-and-3 at the Kansas State 16-yard line. Becht found Carson Hansen for 15 yards and iced the game. "He called a great play, he gave me two plays and let me decide and I knew we were going to have a chance to get it," Becht said "We've worked on it in practice and it's been working for us and we're confident with it and I have trust in my guys."

The Cyclones (1-0, 1-0 Big 12) opened a 24-14 lead in the fourth quarter after a turnover on downs by Kansas State at its own 30-yard line. Becht finished the short drive with a 7-yard touchdown run with 6:38 left. Avery Johnson passed for 273 yards and two touchdowns for Kansas State (0-1, 0-1). He also had a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. "I mean that's the thing, regardless of the outcome we have 11 games to play," Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. "We have our back against the wall, but now we've got to reset and regroup and get ready to play." Johnson threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Jerand Bradley with 6:23 remaining, but the Wildcats never got the ball back. Both teams struggled to deal with wet conditions in the first half. Kansas State had two turnovers and a turnover on downs, and Iowa State committed two turnovers in the first 30 minutes. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Rocco Becht threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another in Iowa State's 21-3 win over North Dakota on Saturday. Becht had no trouble spreading the ball to his receivers as he completed a pass to six different receivers. His top target was Jaylin Noel, who finished with 135 yards and a touchdown. This duo was also methodical in Iowa State's first drive of the game. The two connected for a 54-yard completion that was followed by a 21-yard TD pass to wide receiver Jayden Higgins. Becht also threw a 14-yard TD pass to Noel, and his 2-yard run in the fourth quarter finished the scoring.

North Dakota's Simon Romfo, making his frist career start after being a backup to the now-Michigan State quarterback Tommy Schuster, was 17 of 30 for 121 yards. Romfo led a North Dakota offense that ran for 174 yards and held a nearly 16-minute advantage in time of possession. The Fighting Hawks' longest drive came late in the first quarter. They went on a 23-play, 88-yard drive that resulted in a field goal by C.J. Elrichs. The drive lasted 12:24 and the 23 plays were the most in an Bowl Subdivision game since at least 2014, according to SportRadar. - AP College Football
