  11/29/25 - Kaytron AllenSr/2026, Penn State, 5-10, 219 (DS#3 RB) + More +

Kaytron Allen ran for a career-high 226 yards and a touchdown as Penn State beat Rutgers 40-36 for the 18th straight time to become bowl eligible after a tumultuous season. The Nittany Lions (6-6, 3-6 Big Ten) retook the lead for good when linebacker Amare Campbell raced 61-yards with a fumble with 7:27 to play. Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis lost the ball without being touched. Rutgers (5-7, 2-7 Big Ten) had moved ahead 36-33 early in the fourth quarter on a 46-yard TD pass from Kaliakmanis to Antwan Raymond. Raymond ran for 189 yards and Kaliakmanis passed for 338 yards and three TDs. There were four lead changes in the second half. Rutgers turned the ball over on downs with 3:55 to go when Kaliakmanis lost a yard on fourth-and-1 on the Penn State 27-yard-line on a read-option play. "One of the things we learned tonight was how to end the game on our terms," said Penn State interim coach Terry Smith. "The defense struggled all night. It was not pretty, but they figured out a way. That's football. "We ended the game on our terms." Rutgers lost three of its last four games, giving up at least 35 points in all of them. Campbell led Penn State with 14 tackles. "He (Campbell) deserves a lot of credit, and he plays really hard," said Smith. "He is very productive, solid, and consistent. I don't know what we would do without him. He is a stable piece in the middle for us. Just a tremendous effort tonight." Penn State hasn't missed a bowl game since 2020 when the non-College Football Playoff bowl games were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After losing to Notre Dame in the semifinals of the CFP last season, the expectations for Penn State were high. The Nittany Lions began the season ranked No. 2 and were led by quarterback Drew Allar, who was headed for a Heisman-caliber season before a season-ending leg injury in Week Six against Northwestern. The following day coach James Franklin was fired after Penn State lost its first three Big Ten games, including back-to-back games in which the Nittany Lions were favored by 20-plus points. Penn State would lose six straight before turning its season around by winning its last three games. Penn State hasn't made a decision on its next coach, but Smith remains confident in the job he did turning around the Nittany Lions' season. - Penn State/AP College Football

Rocco Becht passed for a touchdown, Abu Sama ran for a score and Iowa State defeated Oklahoma State 20-13 on Saturday in the final regular-season game for both teams. Kyle Konrardy kicked field goals of 45 and 34 yards for Iowa State (8-4 overall, 5-4 Big 12), which rushed for 231 yards. The Cyclones' defense limited Oklahoma State's offense to 219 yards and forced two turnovers. Zane Flores threw a touchdown pass and Logan Ward kicked two field goals for Oklahoma State (1-11, 0-9), which has lost 18 of 19 games and 19 straight against conference opponents. Becht threw a 16-yard scoring pass to Chase Sowell following a fumble recovery to give the Cyclones a 10-0 lead.

After punting three times and losing a fumble on their first four possessions, Oklahoma State drove 80 yards for their only score of the first half, a 1-yard run by Trent Howland to make it 10-7 at halftime. Iowa State extended the lead to 17-7 on a 40-yard burst by Sama, who finished with 87 yards on 12 carries. The news wasn't all bad for Oklahoma State. On Tuesday, the team announced the selection of North Texas' Eric Morris as its new head football coach. Morris has North Texas contending for a conference championship and College Football Playoff berth. The Mean Green are No. 21 in the AP Top 25. Morris will step in for Mike Gundy, who was fired in September during his 21st season. Doug Meacham was 0-9 as the interim coach. - Iowa State/AP College Football

  11/24/25 - Drew AllarSr/2026, Penn State, 6-5, 235 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, who is nearly six weeks out from having season-ending surgery on his broken left ankle, told ESPN he's amid a "full recovery" and gearing up for the NFL predraft process. Allar entered the season as one of the country's most promising quarterbacks, as he had flirted with going to the NFL after leading Penn State to the semifinals of last season's College Football Playoff. His 2025 season ended abruptly, breaking his left ankle on a scramble in the fourth quarter in a loss to Northwestern. Allar's season was immediately over, and Penn State fired James Franklin the following day. As he moves on to declare for the NFL draft in the upcoming weeks, Allar said he's ahead of schedule on his recovery and confident he'll return to full health. "I'm going to be a better version of myself out of this," he said. "The doctors said it's going to be stronger than before because of the type of surgery they did. It won't prohibit me from anything in the future or need to get it redone. A lot of guys have done it and come back. "I'll be able to make a full recovery and not have anything to think about when I come back." Allar said he's unsure about the specifics of his timeline to come back to the field to showcase himself for NFL teams.

He said he hopes to throw for scouts and teams in some capacity at either the NFL scouting combine or a pro day after that date. Quarterbacks rarely do drills and testing at the combine. Allar told ESPN that he briefly explored opportunities to secure an extra year via medical redshirt, but those were short conversations as he played too many games. There didn't appear to be any redshirt options available from a medical standpoint, nor was there a possibility of the NCAA passing new legislation that allows all players to play five seasons. Allar said he quickly shifted his focus forward. "I've played a lot of high-level football," he said. "I have a lot of film to speak for myself. The best option for me is to move on to the next level." - ESPN College Football

  11/22/25 - Kaytron AllenSr/2026, Penn State, 5-10, 219 (DS#3 RB) + More +

Kaytron Allen ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and Penn State's defense played its best game of the season to keep the Nittany Lions' bowl hopes alive with a 37-10 win over Nebraska on Saturday night. Allen, who racked up 181 yards rushing in last week's win against Michigan State, became Penn State's career rushing leader with 3,954 yards, passing Evan Royster's 3,932 set in 2010. The senior back plowed through and zipped around the Huskers all night. Allen passed Saquon Barkley on the school's career rushing list in the first half before eclipsing Royster with a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. By then the Nittany Lions (5-6, 2-6 Big Ten) had put the game out of reach, scoring on five-straight possessions while their defense stymied the Cornhuskers.

Allen ripped off a 50-yard run around Nebraska's left flank on the Nittany Lion's opening drive to help setup a short touchdown toss from Ethan Grunkemeyer to tight end Andrew Rappleyea. Ryan Barker booted a 26-yard field goal, then Nicholas Singleton capped Penn State's next two drives with 4- and 10-yard rushing touchdowns to make it 23-3 at halftime. Emmett Johnson had 19 carries for 103 yards and eight catches for 48 for yards for the Cornhuskers (7-4, 4-4), who have lost three of their last five. They didn't give themselves much of chance in head coach and State College native Matt Rhule's return to Beaver Stadium. Nebraska mustered just 140 yards in the first half, turned the ball over on downs twice and punted twice more. Penn State forced three more turnovers on downs in the second half. - Penn State/AP College Football

The Cyclones (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) earned their first win against the Jayhawks (5-6, 3-5) since 2021 and came away with their first home victory since Sept. 27 against Arizona. Carsen Hansen rushed for 99 of his 120 yards in the first half, including a 4-yard score to put Iowa State ahead 14-0 early in the second quarter.

Kyle Konrardy added the second-longest field goal of his career from 55-yards out to extend the lead 17-0 with 10:32 remaining before the break. The teams combined for four straight touchdown drives in the third quarter, with Iowa State leading 31-14 entering the fourth. Aiden Flora capped the scoring with 1:07 left in the fourth with his first rushing touchdown of the season for the Cyclones. Jalon Daniels was 13-of-23 passing for 154 yards and an interception for Kansas. Boden Groen had five catches for 76 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Cole Ballard. - Iowa State/AP College Football

  11/15/25 - James PeoplesSo/2028, Penn State, 5-10, 206 (DS#32 RB) + More +

James Peoples scored two touchdowns, Lorenzo Styles Jr. had a 100-yard kickoff return and top-ranked Ohio State rolled to a 48-10 victory over UCLA on Saturday night. The Buckeyes (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) scored on their first five possessions against a Bruins' squad that was without quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who missed the game due to a concussion. Peoples had the highlight play of the game on his 19-yard touchdown with 1:19 remaining in the first half. On first-and-10, he took Julian Sayin's handoff and went around right end. Peoples hurdled over UCLA defensive back Cole Martin at the 10 and landed at the 7 as he didn't break stride and reached the end zone for the first time this season. The sophomore added an 8-yard score late in the fourth quarter.

After Kwazi Gilmer's 18-yard TD reception put UCLA (3-7, 3-4) on the board late in the third quarter, Styles went coast to coast for Ohio State's first kick return score since 2010. Styles fielded it near the goal line on the right corner, ran to his left and had a wide opening at the Ohio State 20 as he went untouched and extended Ohio State's lead to 41-7. It was the Buckeyes' first 100-yard kick return since Ted Ginn at Minnesota in 2005. Sayin completed 23 of 31 passes for 184 yards and a TD on a night when he was mostly without his top two targets. Sophomore star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was listed as questionable on the pregame availability report due to an undisclosed injury and junior Carnell Tate missed a second straight game due to lower leg tightness. Smith saw limited action in the first half and had four receptions for 40 yards, including a one-handed, 18-yard catch on the opening possession. Sayin completed his first 11 passes and was 18 of 21 in the first half, including an 11-yard touchdown to Bryson Rodgers with 4:50 remaining in the second quarter to extend the Buckeyes' lead to 17-0. Bo Jackson led an Ohio State rushing attack that had 222 yards, including a season-high 147 in the first half. The freshman, who finished with 112 yards on 15 carries, opened the scoring with a 1-yard run up the middle. Isaiah West also scored for the Buckeyes. Luke Duncan completed 16 of 23 passes for 154 yards in his first collegiate start. UCLA finally got into Ohio State territory with 1:44 remaining in the third quarter on Rico Flores' 51-yard catch and run to the Buckeyes 19. - Ohio State/AP College Football

Ethan Grunkemeyer threw two touchdown passes to Devonte Ross, Kaytron Allen ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns and Penn State defeated Michigan State 28-10 on Saturday to snap a six-game losing streak. Grunkemeyer completed 8 of 13 passes for 127 yards for the Nittany Lions (4-6 overall, 1-6 Big Ten). Grunkemeyer sealed the win with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Ross with 4:32 left and Allen added his second touchdown on a 26-yard run with 2:07 remaining. Alessio Milivojevic completed 17 of 27 passes for 128 yards for the Spartans (3-7, 0-7) who lost their seventh straight game.

Elijah Tau-Tolliver ran 57 yards for a touchdown on Michigan State's first play of the game. Allen tied it on the ensuing Penn State possession with an 8-yard scoring run. Following a Michigan State field goal, the Nittany Lions went in front 14-10 on Grunkemeyer's 75-yard touchdown pass to Ross. Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles did not play as he was on the pregame sidelines wearing a walking boot on his left foot. He started the first eight games of the season but saw his streak of 20 consecutive starts come to an end on Nov. 1 against Minnesota when he was replaced by Milivojevic. The Spartans played their first game since the NCAA placed Michigan State's football program on three years of probation for violations that occurred during Mel Tucker's tenure as coach. - Penn State/AP College Football

MIDSEASON AP BIG TEN MOST DISAPPOINTING TEAM: Penn State was the unanimous choice following its colossal collapse. The Nittany Lions brought back their quarterback and a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, and they were ranked No. 2 in the preseason. Wins over soft opposition were followed by consecutive losses to Oregon (home), UCLA (away) and Northwestern (home). The Lions were favored by 21-plus points in the last two. James Franklin, who led the Lions to a College Football Playoff semifinal last year, was fired after the Northwestern game. - AP College Football

  10/12/25 - Drew AllarSr/2026, Penn State, 6-5, 235 (DS#7 QB) + More +

James Franklin is out at Penn State. The school fired the longtime head coach on Sunday, less than 24 hours after a 22-21 home loss to Northwestern all but ended whatever remote chance the preseason No. 2 team had of reaching the College Football Playoff. Terry Smith will serve as the interim head coach for the rest of the season for the Nittany Lions (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten), who began the year with hopes of winning the national title only to have those hopes evaporate by early October amid a string of losses, each one more stinging than the last. Penn State, which reached the CFP semifinals 10 months ago, fell at home to Oregon in overtime in late September. A road loss at previously winless UCLA followed. The final straw came on Saturday at Beaver Stadium, where the Nittany Lions let Northwestern escape with a victory and lost quarterback Drew Allar to injury for the rest of the season.

Franklin went 104-45 during his 11-plus seasons at Penn State. Yet the Nittany Lions often stumbled against top-tier opponents, going 4-21 against teams ranked in the top 10 during his tenure. There was hope this fall might be the one when Penn State would finally break through. Yet after three easy wins during a light non-conference schedule, the Nittany Lions crumbled. Athletic director Pat Kraft said the school owes Franklin - who is owed nearly $50 million in a buyout - an "enormous amount of gratitude" for leading the Nittany Lions back to relevance but felt it was time to make a change. "We hold our athletics programs to the highest of standards, and we believe this is the right moment for new leadership at the helm of our football program to advance us toward Big Ten and national championships," Kraft said. - AP College Football
