Like many people, the past few months have left Chuba Hubbard with plenty of time to think. His excitement for Oklahoma State's football season to begin - whenever that happens - is growing each day he sits in his campus dorm room alone with his thoughts. "I just want to run the ball," Hubbard said. Whether that's in primetime Sept. 3 against Oregon State or in October or even next spring, Hubbard isn't too concerned. He plans to suit up for the Cowboys for likely one final season. "Right now, I'm planning on playing next year," Hubbard said. "That's the plan."

Hubbard was named the recipient of the Cornish Trophy - the award given annually to Canada's top NCAA football player - on Wednesday. It was a fitting finale for his huge breakout 2019 campaign in which he led the country in rushing. It also brought up questions about his future. Hubbard announced his plans to return in the middle of January, raising the expectations for a Cowboys squad returning a plethora of talent around their Canadian star. But that was nearly two months before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the sports world. Things are now different. As of now, college football season remains on schedule. At OSU, campus will begin reopening in phases over the summer. - Daily Oklahoman

Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard was named the winner of the Cornish Trophy on Wednesday, presented in a ceremony live on YouTube. The award is presented annually to the top Canadian player in NCAA football, with Hubbard's recognition marking the first for an OSU player. "It's an honor to represent Canada, Alberta and my family in accepting this award, and acknowledging all the hard work I've put in," Hubbard said. OSU had two finalists for the trophy, as linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga joined Hubbard as part of the final five up for the honor.

The trophy adds another accolade to a long list of awards for Hubbard, as he was also named a unanimous All-American, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and a finalist for the Doak Walker Award presented to the nation's top running back. He also finished eighth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy, which marks the third best finish for a Canadian player. - Big 12 Football

  04/27/20 - A.J. GreenSr/2020, Oklahoma State, 6-1, 202 (DS#22 CB) + More +

Former Oklahoma State cornerback A.J. Green was expected to be drafted by most NFL Draft analysts, but when he wasn't, Green became a hot commodity. Multiple teams inquired on Saturday night about the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Green, who ultimately accepted the undrafted free agent offer from the Cleveland Browns that was worth $145,000 with a $15,000 signing bonus, according to multiple reports. The Browns entered the draft needing to solidify the secondary, and drafted LSU safety Grant Delpit - the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award - in the second round. But the Browns did not use any of their other six picks to help at cornerback, which likely benefited Green in negotiations. - Daily Oklahoman

New Michigan State football assistant coach Will Peagler spent plenty of time watching film of his running backs. All the way back to their high school tape. And the athletic ability he saw from returning starter Elijah Collins impressed him. "The thing that stood out to me is how much weight, how much bigger and thicker he's gotten over the last year and during the season," Peagler said Wednesday. "You could see him get better over the portion of the year, and I think that's a credit to him taking care of his body and doing the right things off the field." Collins took over the starting job two games into his redshirt freshman season and finished just shy of MSU's first 1,000-yard season since 2014, rushing for 988 yards and five TDs on 222 carries.

"The first thing that stands out to me about him is he's a phenomenal kid, and he works his butt off," Peagler said. "When kids work their butt off and they have talent, good things are going to happen. And I think he's a perfect example of that." Peagler said he had Collins and junior Connor Heyward in a recent position meeting over video conference teach the rest of the running backs about the blocking responsibilities he wants from the position. And the 34-year-old Peagler believes his players "are one of the better groups that's here on the football team." - Lansing State Journal

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy issued a statement Saturday afternoon apologizing for his comments during a teleconference Tuesday. "I have been made aware that comments from my press conference have offended some," Gundy said in the written statement. "It was never my intention to offend anyone and I apologize. My first priority is and will always be the student-athletes and doing what is best for the program and the university." On Tuesday, Gundy unveiled a plan with the hope to start bringing staff members back on campus around May 1 and players soon after, with testing for COVID-19 provided to everybody. That led to a firestorm for the veteran coach. He also emphasized the financial impact of football returning and said football players could "fight it off with their natural body, the antibodies and build that they have." - Daily Oklahoman

Mike Gundy wants a plan, and he's already pushing one for Oklahoma State football. With Stillwater's current shelter in place declaration being through April 16 - which could be extended - Gundy said he is hopeful to return to some form of normalcy by the beginning of May in a teleconference Tuesday as his first interaction with the media since the NCAA and Big 12 Conference shut down sports for the remainder of the spring. "How fast that can happen based on the tests that are available, I can't say right now, but that's the plan," Gundy said. "We have to have a plan, and the plan right now is for them to start on May 1.

"It might get backed up two weeks. I don't know, I can't make that call, but if it does, we'll start with the employees of this company, the ones that come in this building. Then we'll bring the players in, and slowly but surely we'll test them all in." He said they had 105 athletes on campus for spring football, but sent most of them home - with only three remaining on the Stillwater campus. But he's hopeful to have them all back soon, and to be able to play football this fall. - Stillwater Press

  04/03/20 - Alan BowmanrSr/2025, Oklahoma State, 6-3, 220 (DS#60 QB) + More +

Texas Tech went 4-8 last year and a Heisman campaign is probably the last thing the Red Raiders are thinking about. Despite a young roster, Texas Tech has the bare bones of an explosive offense next season and Alan Bowman will be the driving force. When he's been healthy, Bowman has been the nation's leading passer in terms of yardage over the last two seasons. In 11 career games, Bowman has put up 3,658 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first two seasons. With another year under his belt building chemistry with his young receiving corps featuring Erik Ezukanma and KeSean Carter, plus incoming four-star freshman Loic Fouonji. Bowman has outside potential to get an invite to New York and possibly hold up the trophy at the end of the season.

For Bowman to be the first ever Heisman winner in Texas Tech's history, something magical would need to happen. The highest any Red Raider has finished in the Heisman voting came in 2008 when Graham Harrell finished fourth and Michael Crabtree finished fifth. Texas Tech finished the regular season 11-1 that year with its only loss coming against Oklahoma. Harrell threw for 5,111 yards and 45 touchdowns while Crabtree caught 97 passes for 1,165 yards and 19 touchdowns. - Dallas Morning News

Other finalists include Notre Dame receiver Chase Claypool and Ohio quarterback Nathan Rourke, who has won the past two Cornish Trophy awards. The award was set to be presented on April 18, but the award's Twitter page said that will likely be moved due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hubbard led the nation with 2,094 rushing yards. He also scored 21 touchdowns, earning unanimous All-American status and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors. He also finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting. - Daily Oklahoman

  03/12/20 - Dru BrownrSr/2020, Oklahoma State, 5-11, 194 (DS#999 QB) + More +

A day after competing in Oklahoma State's Pro Day, former Cowboy quarterback Dru Brown is officially a pro. Brown's football journey that has taken him from a Northern California junior college to Hawaii to Stillwater is now taking him north of the border. He signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League on Wednesday. Unecruited out of high school in Los Gatos, California, Brown has worked hard every step of his career to get to this point. "I'm not really supposed to be here, but it's a product of the work I put in," he said after Tuesday's Pro Day workout. "No one can take it away from me." Brown played in seven games, starting three, last season for the Cowboys. He completed 72 of 107 passes (67.3 percent) for 810 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception. Winnipeg is located in the southern portion of central Canada, roughly 2,000 miles from Brown's hometown of San Mateo, California. - Daily Oklahoman

Philip Redwine-Bryant could have just written down athlete on his resume for NFL scouts Tuesday, and he wouldn't have been wrong. The former Oklahoma State walk-on linebacker impressed scouts on Pro Day with his versatility, as not only did he do the defensive drills many would expect, but he also worked out as a fullback and long snapper. Redwine-Bryant, who played a bit of tight end at Harker Heights High School in Texas, said he wanted to leave no stone unturned. "I mean shoot, put me out there for quarterback, too. Honestly, I tried to focus on linebacker, fullback and long snapper. I have that in my toolbelt and want to show that here. Hopefully I got a good look at that and they got a good look at me, too, so we will see what happens," Redwine-Bryant said.

On a day in which the Cowboys had a smaller-than-usual number working out, Redwine-Bryant was one of the members who improved his stock. The multiple time team captain said he is looking to make a team any way he has to. And though he isn't going anywhere out of state to train since he is finishing up his second degree this spring, Redwine-Bryant will be working with the Cowboy track and field team trying to earn a medal in the discus before he hopefully starts his pro football career. However he makes a team, he is willing to do it. If an NFL coach asked him to be a special teamer, Redwine-Bryant had the perfect answer. "I would say, 'Look coach, I will clean toilets, too. I do the whole thing. Just to get on that team and show out and do what I do, I would do anything for the team," Redwine-Bryant said. - Stillwater Press

  03/10/20 - A.J. GreenSr/2020, Oklahoma State, 6-1, 202 (DS#22 CB) + More +

The Oklahoma State football team held its annual Pro Day Tuesday, as 10 Cowboy seniors worked out in front of NFL personnel from across the league. OSU's participants included kicker Matt Ammendola, defensive back Bryce Balous, quarterback Dru Brown, defensive back A.J. Green, offensive lineman Marcus Keyes, wide receiver Jordan McCray, linebacker Philip Redwine-Bryant, defensive lineman Mike Scott, defensive back Kemah Siverand and offensive lineman Johnny Wilson.

Some of the best marks of the day included a 36-inch vertical jump from Brown, 28 bench press reps from Wilson and 18 bench press reps from Balous. Brown's vertical would have ranked No. 1 among all quarterbacks at the 2020 NFL Combine, while Wilson's bench numbers would have ranked sixth among offensive lineman and Balous' would have ranked seventh among defensive backs. - Oklahoma State Football

All-America running back Chuba Hubbard will return to Oklahoma State for his junior season. mHubbard made the announcement on social media on Monday. Oklahoma State receiver Tylan Wallace previously announced he would be back for his senior season, so Hubbard's return means the Cowboys have two of the nation's most accomplished offensive players heading into next season. Hubbard ran for 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, enough to make him consider declaring for the NFL draft. He joined Barry Sanders as the only players in school history to rush for at least 2,000 yards. Hubbard was eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting and was The Associated Press Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. He also was a finalist for the Walter Camp and Doak Walker Awards for national player of the year. Hubbard rushed for at least 100 yards in the final 11 games of the season. He had 296 yards rushing against Kansas State, 256 against Tulsa, 223 against TCU and 221 against Oregon State. - AP College Football
