C.J. Stroud and TreVeyon Henderson provided Ohio State's offense with a refreshingly familiar look Saturday. Even a persistently rainy night couldn't derail the Buckeyes' two big stars. Stroud threw four touchdown passes, Henderson scored three times and No. 5 Ohio State routed Indiana 54-7 after its bye week, extending the Football Bowl Subdivision's longest active winning streak against one team to 27 in a row. "It was great to see those guys running around. It looked like they were having fun out there," coach Ryan Day said. "That's good and that's part of the energy we want." Right now, it seems nothing can stop the Buckeyes (6-1, 4-0 Big Ten). They've won five straight overall, 25 in a row against conference foes including their Big Ten championship game victories, an FBS-leading 12 consecutive true road games and a conference-record 11 straight road games against league foes by double digits.

And this dominant victory resembled so many others along the way. After Henderson broke a 7-all tie with a 21-yard TD run late in the first quarter, the short-handed Hoosiers (2-5, 0-4) never had a chance. Ohio State scored the final 37 points of the first half and Day pulled his starters after three quarters. "When you see things like that, I just think we're hitting and we have the momentum," Stroud said. "Everybody does a great job." For the Hoosiers, there were more struggles. Indiana quarterback Jack Tuttle replaced injured starter Michael Penix Jr. for the second straight week but didn't last long. Tuttle left after appearing to injure his right foot while capping Indiana's opening possession with a 7-yard TD pass to Peyton Hendershot. - Ohio State/AP College Football

C.J. Stroud, who didn't throw a pass in a college football game until five weeks ago, says he's getting better at relaxing amid the chaos. With his sore shoulder feeling better and some early wobbles behind him, Stroud is beginning to look less like an inexperienced freshman and more like Justin Fields, his unflappable predecessor at quarterback who led Ohio State to the College Football Playoff in both years as a starter. "I'm just being more comfortable," Stroud said after throwing five touchdowns in the No. 7 Buckeyes' 66-17 pounding of Maryland on Saturday. "I mean, being myself. I'm really just relaxing back there, and I think my teammates have really helped me. And I feel like we're starting to roll, get momentum." Coach Ryan Day sees it, too. "I think his preparation has been excellent," Day said. "I think he sees the field well. He's got some good players around him, but he's also making really good throws. His timing is right, he's seeing the field, making good decisions. And so that is allowing us to run the offense and to be very efficient." Ohio State scored on nine straight possessions and piled up 598 yards of offense as the Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) had their way with the Terps (4-2, 1-2). Stroud threw for 406 yards, including two touchdown passes each to star wideouts Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson against a depleted Maryland secondary. "Last week and this week, we were damn near perfect," Olave said. - Ohio State/AP College Football

C.J. Stroud threw five touchdowns passes, Ohio State scored on nine straight possessions and the No. 7 Buckeyes steamrolled Maryland 66-17 on Saturday. Stroud and the Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) had their way with Terps. The freshman quarterback was 24 for 33 for 406 yards and threw two touchdown passes each to star wideouts Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson against a depleted Maryland secondary before taking a seat after three quarters. Freshman TreVeyon Henderson, after managing just 17 yards rushing in the first half, finished with 102 and two touchdowns. He also caught a 26-yard TD pass in the first half. Master Teague also had a touchdown plunge as Ohio State beat Maryland for the seventh consecutive time.

It wasn't until the Buckeyes' 10th and final drive of the game, when the regulars were all out of the game, that the Terps managed to stop them on downs. Maryland was routed for the second straight week. Taulia Tagovailoa threw five interceptions last week as Iowa upended the Terps 51-14. Tagovailoa threw two late picks against the Buckeyes on Saturday, but turnovers weren't really the problem. The Terps offense couldn't string together enough positive plays together - and their defense just couldn't stop Ohio State. Tagovailoa, who came in the game leading the Big Ten in completion percentage, was 28 for 39 for 279 yards and two touchdowns for Maryland (4-2, 1-2). - Ohio State/AP College Football

Greg Schiano of Rutgers has a warning for the rest of the teams in the Big Ten Conference: No. 11 Ohio State is finding its stride. C.J. Stroud threw for 330 yards and a career-high five touchdowns after sitting out a game to rest a shoulder and the Buckeyes won their 20th straight conference game with a 52-13 victory over Rutgers on Saturday. What everyone saw was a dominant Ohio State (4-1, 2-0) put a complete performance on display, especially on offense. The nation's No. 2 offense scored on its first six possessions and had its defense deliver a pick-6.

Stroud connected with Chris Olave on touchdown passes of 56 and 11 yards, found Garrett Wilson on a 32-yard catch-and-run, and hit tight ends Jeremy Ruckert and Mitch Rossi on scoring passes of 19 and 1 yard, respectively. The freshman, who threw four TD passes against Minnesota in the opener, finished 17 of 23 and did not throw an interception. Olave finished with five catches for a team-high 119 yards. "This is this is what he's capable of," Day said about Stroud. "And now he's got to bring it through and be consistent." Ohio State has beaten Rutgers eight straight times. The Buckeyes outgained the Scarlet Knights 541-346, flowed through a defense that had given up just 54 points in its first four games, and intercepted Noah Vedral three times. - Ohio State/AP College Football

Freshman running back TreVeyon Henderson's big day put him amid elite company in the Ohio State record book, and it couldn't have come at a better time for his decidedly off-kilter team. Henderson, in his third game, broke Archie Griffin's 49-year-old freshman rushing record, romping for 277 yards and three touchdowns as No. 9 Ohio State struggled with Tulsa and then managed to pull away late for a 41-20 win on Saturday. Henderson ran for scores of 5, 48 and 52 yards, which managed to paper over some of the same weaknesses Ohio State showed in the 32-25 upset by Oregon last week that sent the Buckeyes tumbling in the AP Top 25 poll.

Ohio State was supposed to be getting a break in the schedule, the first of two games against lesser opponents that would allow the ironing out of some glaring issues, particularly with the defense. Instead, it got a good tussle. The Buckeyes (2-1) were not sharp, but Tulsa (0-3) just couldn't match them blow for blow and Henderson, who ran for 69 yards in the first two games combined, broke through with huge plays at critical times. A late interception that Cameron Martinez returned for a 61-yard touchdown made the score look worse than it was for the persistent Golden Hurricane. Henderson broke a freshman rushing record that has stood since Griffin ran for 239 yards on Sept. 30, 1972, in an Ohio State win over North Carolina. Griffin went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 1974 and '75, the only two-time winner in history. - Ohio State Football/AP College Football

The sophomore quarterback went 7 of 10 in the air for 123 yards and threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Imatorbhebhe on the second play of the game. Carson Strong was 27-of-40 passing for 262 yards with a touchdown and interception for Nevada. Devonte Lee led the Wolf Pack in rushing with 24 yards and a touchdown. The Wolf Pack finished with 331 yards of offense but only 25 yards on the ground. The Wildcats finished with 390 yards, 269 yards on the ground.   C.J. Stroud's mind was not right as he sparred with first-game jitters, feeling "kind of all over the place" in his debut as Ohio State's starting quarterback. Playing for the Buckeyes comes with plenty of pressure. It also brings plenty of help. Stroud passed for 294 yards and four touchdowns, and the fourth-ranked Buckeyes kept coach Ryan Day unbeaten in Big Ten play with a 45-31 victory over Minnesota on a rainy Thursday night. Ohio State trailed at halftime (14-10) for the first time in a regular season game under Day, but time in the locker room was all Stroud needed to settle in. He passed for 246 yards in the second half. "Everybody was encouraging me, telling me I can do it. My teammates all have belief in me," said Stroud, who went 13 for 22 with one interception.

Said Day, who is 24-2 overall and 16-0 in conference games starting his third full year on the job: "We weren't going to play it close to the vest. That's not how we do it here." The Buckeyes flashed their five-star speed with two 70-plus-yard scores in the opener, one early on a run off right end by Miyan Williams and one late on a third-down screen to true freshman TreVeyon Henderson. Chris Olave had touchdown catches of 38 and 61 yards, and Garrett Wilson scored on a 56-yard reception that gave Ohio State the lead for good at 24-21 midway through the third quarter. - Ohio State/AP College Football

  09/01/21 - Tyler FridayrSr/2023, Ohio State, 6-2, 264 (DS#999 DE) + More +

Ohio State football will not have Tyler Friday's veteran presence on the field in 2021. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day confirmed on his Tuesday radio show that the senior defensive end suffered a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament in the offseason. Day had previously said Friday was not expected to play much if at all this season. "It was a tough break for him in the preseason - kind of a freak thing, just out doing some drills on his own," Day said. "We're obviously happy that he's gonna be back for another year, but it's gonna be a long year for recovery." Friday recorded seven tackles in five games last season. He has started a few games in the past. Along with Javontae Jean-Baptiste, he would have factored into the second tier of a rotation headlined by Zach Harrison and Tyreke Smith this season. However, the emergence of Jack Sawyer as a true freshman and the arrival of J.T. Tuimoloau as the same creates an intriguing five-man rotation. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
