The Big Ten Conference announced its 2022 football preseason honors on Monday ahead of the start of Big Ten Football Media Days at Lucas Oil Stadium. A media panel selected the 10-member preseason list, with five representatives each from the East and West Divisions. Ohio State placed a trio of honorees on the East Division list highlighted by the unanimous selection of quarterback C.J. Stroud, a finalist for the Heisman Trophy last season. Stroud was joined on this year's preseason East Division squad by a pair of Buckeye offensive standouts in running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, as well as Michigan running back Blake Corum and Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed. Four different schools placed students on the West Division preseason list, led by two representatives from Wisconsin in running back Braelon Allen and linebacker Nick Herbig. They were joined on the list by Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell, Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski and Purdue quarterback Aidan O'Connell. - Big Ten Football

  07/25/22 - Tommy EichenbergrSr/2024, Ohio State, 6-2, 233 (DS#4 ILB) + More +

Coaches love Tommy Eichenberg. Yes, his teammates are fond of him as well. But coaches really love Eichenberg, whose advanced football intelligence and attention to detail seemed to give him an edge during Jim Knowles' defensive install in the spring. A Rose Bowl defensive MVP performance featuring 17 tackles helped his case. Eichenberg could be the run-stopping linchpin needed in a defense that will spread more safety help around him to help defend the pass. On the other hand, Eichenberg opened last season as the starter but soon yielded the job to Cody Simon after three games. The latter was still on the mend from shoulder surgery and did not participate in spring practices. As such, Knowles has not seen much from him in person. If that changes in preseason camp, this may again be a two-man competition up until opening night. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

Ohio State football had no finalists last season for the Biletnikoff Award - given to the nation's best receiver. Not Garrett Wilson or Chris Olave, who were both selected in the first 12 picks of April's NFL Draft. Not Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who rocketed past both veterans to turn in the most prolific receiving season in OSU history. Call it bad voting. Call it an unfortunate case of teammates cannibalizing each other's votes. Regardless, it continued a Buckeye trend with the award.

Terry Glenn won the Biletnikoff Award in 1995, it's second year of existence. He is also the only OSU finalist (top-three vote-getter) in the history of the award. David Boston, Michael Jenkins, Santonio Holmes, Parris Campbell - some pretty talented pass-catchers could not break through. Smith-Njigba, who was announced Thursday as one of 43 receivers on the watch list for the 2022 award, might have the best chance of any of them to break the drought. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

Every new Ohio State football defensive end faces the ghosts of the edge rushers who came before them. Some, like Chase Young, tear open those expectations and leave the entrails all over the field. For others, those comparisons attached by others can hang like a weight throughout their careers. Incoming freshman Kenyatta Jackson appears to be confronting that imposing legacy head on. He will open his career wearing No. 97 - the same number Nick and Joey Bosa and Cameron Heyward wore during their stellar careers. Jackson, a 6-5, 235-pound end from Hollywood, Florida's Chaminade-Madonna Prep, arrives as the No. 60 prospect in the 247 Sports composite. Omari Abor, another top-100 edge rusher, also arrives this summer and will wear No. 23. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  07/21/22 - Denzel BurkeSr/2025, Ohio State, 5-11, 186 (DS#9 CB) + More +

American Eagle wants to use Denzel Burke to sell you skinny jeans and flannel shirts, and Ohio State football's foray into name, image and likeness may have reached an inflection point. Burke is one of 41 current or former Buckeyes represented by NIL Management. The agency traded 185 emails over the span of a few months, according to founder Zach Beebe, to facilitate endorsement deals with American Eagle, Designer Shoe Warehouse and Value City Furniture. The Foundation, one of two prominent OSU booster collectives, also helped seal this deal. Burke and three of his teammates will net $550,000 for those ad campaigns. Those teammates - C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and TreVeyon Henderson - are OSU's three marquee talents. Glamour positions. A Heisman Trophy finalist. The Rose Bowl-wrecking receiver. Regardless of commercials or Instagram influencer posts, they will be among the faces of college football this season.

So how did Burke - a sophomore-to-be cornerback who came out of Scottsdale, Arizona, as the nation's No. 196 prospect per 247 Sports' composite - end up as part of this headline-making deal? "I'm glad that a big national company such as American Eagle wants to step outside of the box," Beebe said. "Denzel is an amazing athlete. He did get freshman All-American. He didn't have one touchdown scored on him. "Sometimes defense gets the short end of the stick, but it really attests to not only the company but us wanting to throw a bone to our other clients that deserve it. Denzel, we believe, will be one of the top (NFL) draft picks as well and have an amazing season." - Cleveland Plain Dealer

The Foundation, a third-party collective supporting Ohio State, says it has raised more than half a million dollars to fund a joint name, image and likeness deal for several of the Buckeyes' star football players. Brian Schottenstein, the co-founder of the nonprofit organization, said the agreement totals a combined $550,000 for quarterback C.J. Stroud, running back TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Denzel Burke.

As part of the terms, Burke and Henderson will promote American Eagle Outfitters, and Smith-Njigba and Stroud will plug Designer Shoe Warehouse. Stroud is pushing Value City Furniture, as well. They will all also work with The Foundation's partner charities, a group that includes Buckeye Cruise for Cancer, A Kid Again and LifeTown Columbus. The four players will be a part of a fundraising event held by the collective on Aug. 22 at which children with special needs from LifeTown and others with life-threatening conditions from A Kid Again will be in attendance, in addition to making other public appearances. - Columbus Dispatch
