  05/01/20 - Nathan RourkeSr/2020, Ohio + More +

Former Ohio football quarterback Nathan Rourke (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) has been selected with the 15th overall pick in the second round of the 2020 Canadian Football League Draft by the BC Lions. Rourke becomes the second Bobcat to be picked in the 69-year history of the CFL Draft and second in as many years. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats selected Rourke's former teammate, running back Maleek Irons, with the 22nd overall pick in the third round of the 2019 CFL Draft. Rourke, who was born in Victoria, B.C., was the first quarterback off the board in the 2020 CFL Draft. He is the CFL's highest-drafted quarterback since Jesse Palmer went 15th to the Montreal Alouettes in 2001. Rourke finished his three-year career at Ohio with a record of 24-13 as starting quarterback and was under center for an unprecedented three-straight bowl victories. - Athens Messenger

  04/15/20 - Cameron OdomrSr/2022, Ohio + More +

Cam Odom felt the pain as soon he made the step. It happened in the second half of Ohio's game last October against Northern Illinois when Odom was running a route and felt a pop in his big toe. He finished the game, but learned a week later that he suffered a complete tear of the tendon in his toe. His route-running ability was limited for the Bobcats' final five games. "I played through it the rest of the season, but it was pulling me back in how I wanted to release," Odom said in March after Ohio's first day of spring camp, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. "I could never really rest it until after the (Famous Idaho Potato Bowl) game."

The injury, which Odom fixed with a small surgery in March, was perhaps the biggest reason why he struggled to take the big leap he hoped was in store for him last season. He was the most experienced receiver on the roster, but he ended his redshirt junior season with a career-low 19 receptions and no touchdowns. Odom, who caught three touchdowns as a freshman and two as a sophomore, has one year left to make that anticipated jump. Now, he'll have to do it without Nathan Rourke, the quarterback Odom has teamed up with for his past three seasons. - The Athens Post

  03/18/20 - Nathan RourkeSr/2020, Ohio + More +

Former Ohio University quarterback Nathan Rourke has been named one of the five finalists for the third annual Jon Cornish Trophy, given annually to the most outstanding Canadian player in NCAA Football. Rourke, who completed his senior season as a three-year starter at quarterback for the Bobcats in 2019, is familiar with the award. Rourke was picked as inaugural winner of the honor in 2017-18, and repeated as the Cornish Trophy winner in '18-'19. Rourke, a physical activity and sport coaching major, was named to the 2019 All-Mid-American Conference First Team after being named to the All-MAC Second Team the previous two seasons. He was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week three times during his senior season, bringing his career total to nine.

Rourke set career highs in completions (200; sixth-most in program history), attempts (328; eighth-most in program history), completion percentage (61.0 percent; sixth-best in program history), passing yards (2,820; fourth-most in program history) and passing yards per game (216.9; fifth-most in program history) while throwing for 20 touchdown passes (tied for fourth-most in program history) against a career-low five interceptions in 2019. His passing efficiency rating of 150.3 ranked as the second-best in the MAC and second-best in program history. - Athens Messenger

  01/03/20 - Nathan RourkeSr/2020, Ohio + More +

Nathan Rourke accounted for 241 yards of offense and ran for a touchdown to help Ohio beat Nevada 30-21 on Friday in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Ohio (7-6) rebounded from a 1-3 start for its fifth straight winning season under coach Frank Solich. The 75-year-old former Nebraska coach received a two-year contract extension this week. Nevada (7-6), which dismissed defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel and two other defensive position coaches at the end of the regular season, didn’t find much of an answer for Ohio’s high-powered offense until the fourth quarter.

The Wolfpack also were missing three key defensive starters, suspended for their participation in a fight in a loss to rival UNLV in the regular-season finale. Ohio raced to a 20-9 lead and scored the first 10 points of the third quarter before holding off Nevada's late rally. The Bobcats lost leading rusher O’Shaan Allison late in the first quarter with an undisclosed injury. De’Montre Tuggle took over, rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown to spark a ground attack that finished with 285 yards on 50 carries spread among five players. Rourke, who is projected to be a high first-round draft pick in the Canadian Football League, tied Kareem Wilson's school record for career rushing touchdowns of 49. Wilson played from 1995-98. - AP College Football

  12/11/19 - Armani RogersrSr/2022, Ohio + More +

UNLV has offered its vacant head coaching job to LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke Tuesday night on condition of anonymity because negotiations are ongoing and no announcement has been made. The offer was first reported by Fox Sports. Aranda would replace Tony Sanchez, who was fired Nov. 25 after going 19-40 in five seasons. UNLV is looking to raise the profile of its football program with the Rebels set to begin playing home games in a new stadium being built for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, who are moving to Las Vegas. The school also opened a $34 million on-campus football complex this fall. Aranda joined LSU in 2016 when he was hired away from Wisconsin by then-LSU coach Les Miles. He was retained by current LSU coach Ed Orgeron. Aranda is among the highest-paid coordinators in the nation, earning about $2.5 million per year. He spent earlier parts of his career with current Mountain West Conference schools, including stints at Utah State and Hawaii. - AP College Football
