  Sam Wiglusz leaped high to pull in a 22-yard pass from Kurtis Rourke over an outstretched defender in the end zone for the deciding fourth-quarter touchdown as Ohio pulled out a 24-17 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday to improve to 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference West Division. Roarke also found Wiglusz with an eight-yard touchdown pass to cap the game's opening drive and nosed in from the 1 with 4:16 left in the third quarter to give the Bobcats (5-3) a 17-9 lead. Kacper Rutkiewicz scored the Huskies' lone touchdown of the game on an 11-yard run with 1:31 left in the third quarter and Nate Valcarcel threw to Cole Tucker for the two-point conversion to tie the game at 17. John Richardson kicked field goals from 38-, 27- and 45-yards out to keep Northern Illinois (2-6, 1-3) within a point, 10-9 with just under 11 minutes left in the third quarter. Rourke was 14 of 26 passing for 200 yards and two touchdowns and led the Bobcats' running game with 64 yards on seven carries, breaking free for a 61-yard dash. Wiglusz finished with six catches for 69 yards. Antario Brown had 160 yards on 16 carries to lead Northern Illinois.   Sieh Bangura ran for two touchdowns, Nathanial Vakos kicked four field goals and Ohio cruised past Western Michigan, 33-14 in Mid-American Conference action Saturday. Ohio's defense dominated Western Michigan after intermission, stopping the Broncos on downs twice and picked off five passes to thwart all seven second-half possessions. Torrie Cox and Zack Sanders each had two interceptions for Ohio (4-3, 2-1). Kurtis Rourke was 22 of 34 passing for 264 yards with an interception and Bangura had 77 yards on 25 carries. Vakos kicked a personal-best 55-yard field goal just before halftime. Jack Salopek ran eight yards for a touchdown and connected with Corey Crooms on a 74-yard touchdown in the first half and finished with 249 yards on 17 of 31 passing and threw all five second-half picks for the Broncos (2-5, 1-2). - Ohio/AP College Football

  South Alabama on Wednesday added a Division I transfer for 2022, as former Kentucky safety Rickey Hyatt officially joined the program. Hyatt, originally from Columbus, Ohio, totaled one tackle in two games of action as a redshirt freshman for the Wildcats in 2021. He will have four seasons of eligibility at South Alabama beginning this fall. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound Hyatt was a three-star recruit in the 2020 class out of Westerville (Ohio) Central High School. He re-joins former Kentucky teammate Allen Dailey, who transferred to South Alabama last season. Hyatt is the eighth Division I transfer to join the South Alabama program since the end of spring practice, and 17th since the end of the 2021 season. - Birmingham News

  Former UNLV quarterback Armani Rogers signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted rookie free agent Saturday to play tight end. Rogers, a 6-foot-5-inch Los Angeles native, played in parts of three seasons with UNLV after redshirting. He was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2017. Rogers rushed for 1,549 yards and 18 touchdowns and passed for 2,465 yards and 18 TDs with the Rebels before transferring to Ohio. - Las Vegas Review

  UCF reserve quarterback Parker Navarro has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Navarro was on the outside looking in as it came to UCF's quarterback competition between sophomore Mikey Keene, senior John Rhys Plumlee and true freshman Thomas Castellanos. The redshirt sophomore from Arizona suffered a shoulder injury in the team's second spring scrimmage, which limited him for the remainder of camp. Navarro was photographed Saturday after the spring game with his left arm in a sling. After taking a redshirt his first year at UCF, Navarro appeared in five games at quarterback and on special teams last season. He ran the ball seven times for 54 yards. Navarro finished tied for third on the team with three rushing touchdowns, one each in the final three games of the regular season. A member of UCF's 2020 signing class, Navarro was a three-star prospect coming out of Desert Vista in Phoenix, Arizona. He threw for 2,749 yards and 29 touchdowns with six interceptions as a senior quarterback in 2019. He added 959 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns his senior season. - Orlando Sentinel

He was also one of seven co-captains for the 2021 team. In MAC play alone, Houston registered 73 tackles, 39 solo and 34 assisted.
