  Graeson Underwood connected with Christian Hilton on a 51-yard touchdown with 3:37 left in the game to lift The Citadel to a 26-22 win over VMI Saturday afternoon to win The Military Classic of the South rivalry game. The Bulldogs took a 14-3 lead at intermission, but VMI roared back with three third-quarter touchdowns after Eric Rankin blocked a Citadel punt and Elijah Quamiley returned it 20 yards for a touchdown to take a 22-14 lead.

Cooper Wallace ran eight yards for a touchdown to get the Bulldogs within two, 22-20, but the-two-point conversion attempt to tie it failed. After the Keydets were forced to punt with 6:04 left, The Citadel went 78 yards in six plays for the game-winning score. The Citadel (4-7, 3-5 Southern) finished with 319 yards on the ground, with Wallace leading the effort with 94 yards on nine carries.   Sieh Bangura ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns and Ohio beat Ball State 32-18 on Tuesday night for its sixth straight win. Bangura had a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and his 7-yarder early in the fourth stretched Ohio's lead to 26-11. He carried the ball 23 times that included a 41-yard run. Kurtis Rourke completed 12 of 16 passes for 169 yards and threw a touchdown pass for Ohio (8-3, 6-1 Mid-American Conference).

John Paddock was 29-of-48 passing for 273 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Ball State (5-6, 3-4). Carson Steele had 14 carries for 96 yards. Paddock threw a 7-yard TD pass to Brady Hunt, ending a long drive that pulled Ball State to 26-18 with about 10 minutes remaining. The Cardinals then turned the ball over on downs before Paddock threw his interception inside Bobcat territory. Ohio ends its regular season at home against Bowling Green next Tuesday. Ball State plays Miami (Ohio) on the road next Tuesday, looking for its sixth win to become bowl eligible for the third straight season, which would be a program first. - Ohio/AP College Football

  Sam Wiglusz leaped high to pull in a 22-yard pass from Kurtis Rourke over an outstretched defender in the end zone for the deciding fourth-quarter touchdown as Ohio pulled out a 24-17 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday to improve to 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference West Division. Roarke also found Wiglusz with an eight-yard touchdown pass to cap the game's opening drive and nosed in from the 1 with 4:16 left in the third quarter to give the Bobcats (5-3) a 17-9 lead. Kacper Rutkiewicz scored the Huskies' lone touchdown of the game on an 11-yard run with 1:31 left in the third quarter and Nate Valcarcel threw to Cole Tucker for the two-point conversion to tie the game at 17. John Richardson kicked field goals from 38-, 27- and 45-yards out to keep Northern Illinois (2-6, 1-3) within a point, 10-9 with just under 11 minutes left in the third quarter. Rourke was 14 of 26 passing for 200 yards and two touchdowns and led the Bobcats' running game with 64 yards on seven carries, breaking free for a 61-yard dash. Wiglusz finished with six catches for 69 yards. Antario Brown had 160 yards on 16 carries to lead Northern Illinois.   South Alabama on Wednesday added a Division I transfer for 2022, as former Kentucky safety Rickey Hyatt officially joined the program. Hyatt, originally from Columbus, Ohio, totaled one tackle in two games of action as a redshirt freshman for the Wildcats in 2021. He will have four seasons of eligibility at South Alabama beginning this fall. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound Hyatt was a three-star recruit in the 2020 class out of Westerville (Ohio) Central High School. He re-joins former Kentucky teammate Allen Dailey, who transferred to South Alabama last season. Hyatt is the eighth Division I transfer to join the South Alabama program since the end of spring practice, and 17th since the end of the 2021 season. - Birmingham News
